[Trade] SJ trades Christian Jaros to NJ for Nick Merkley
Dazzle replied to qwijibo's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Whoops. -
Are you hearing yourself? Because the public doesn't want facts (I don't know who would want to be lied to, but let's just go with your assumption here), therefore media is serving a purpose? How will people determine for themselves what the facts are when you're ALSO claiming that the media has a need to stretch out a story to sell papers? Furthermore, YOUR claim has always been that the media has LESS of a reason to lie than a GM. It's laughable that your basis of the pro-media argument is predicated on your claim that the public wants to be lied to. Laughable. Like after reading this post again, I am just laughing.
-
Thanks for confirming yet again how biased you are. You've just stated that the media DOES have a motivation to push a story, and isn't any more trustworthy than a GM. So much for your previous comments about the media being accountable then, eh? Looks like those checks and balances you talked about are rubbish.
-
This is dug out from the archives in the other thread @wallstreetamigo Why are these not contradictions? Denying that they're not contradictions will confirm your bias. You obviously hold media to a different/lower standard. So yes, it would not be inaccurate to say you worship the media's words. For your reference (again):
-
Oh, wallstreet, you amuse me. Multiple people have called you out on your contradictions. I guess everyone is wrong then? I actually speculated, yes, speculated that the media was shut out. The fact that you took my words as a 'truth' is exactly what I'm highlighting; journalists are mixing speculation with the so-called stories that they hear. You yourself admitted that the reports would be less entertaining if they were factual. This goes into paragraph 4, which I honestly am amused that you're simply restating your original point. Claiming that the media has less incentive to make up a story is completely at odds with what you said earlier; that the media doesn't sell anything if it doesn't lie to the public. Furthermore, you claimed that the public is interested only in lies. I am not misrepresenting what you said, at least not deliberately. In summary, you are biased.
-
I heard everything you say about it, but I keep referencing you because rather than stick with one explanation, you contradict yourself in another post. Yes, you did contradict yourself, despite your denials. There is a reason why the local media DID NOT hear about the OEL story. Yes, they may have heard about it previously, but they DID NOT report this latest one. What happened? It's my understanding that the media is only given information that teams want to share. Because of the general media abuse, the Canucks did not purposefully share the OEL trade. All I'm saying is that the media has every inclination to lie about a story, AS MUCH as Benning does. The fact that you hold the media to a different standard is WHY I think you are incredibly biased.

Unfortunately, he still is; however, this time Brad Shaw is supervising him. https://thehockeywriters.com/canucks-brad-shaw-improved-defensive-game/ "Brought in to be head coach Travis Green‘s right-hand man, Shaw will have his hands in everything save for the goaltending which will be, of course, goaltending coach Ian Clark’s department. Basically, he will work in tandem with the other assistant coaches to improve every facet of the team. He will be in essence, an associate coach, even though his title remains as an assistant. Nolan Baumgartner will continue to work with the defence, but will have Shaw in his ear every step of the way." Brad Shaw will oversee everything, while also reporting to Green. A lot of bureaucracy, but maybe it will work.

[Buyout] Canucks terminate Virtanen’s contract
Dazzle replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That's not necessarily proof of anything. He was going to get bought out regardless. He is already a PR disaster, regardless if he did it or not. Also, if that's how quick you determined guilt, welp, no point in a civil suit or criminal case. Just throw him in jail. /sar -
This is a very important point you brought up. I know @wallstreetamigo has said this before, and I agree with him: our local media is more interested in entertainment, as opposed to reporting "facts". If they had facts, as they heard it, they would've reported that the trade was impending. Too bad amigo worships the local media like they are truth speakers. He actually contradicted himself several times when defending them LOL. Instead, AZ reporters got in on the scoop before anyone else. This is the consequence of making up crap, and the result is that the local media had eggs on their face when they didn't even hear this story. The Canucks aren't going to trust the media, and the media is gonna have to come up with a new circus act to stay relevant.

OEL endorsed by the Sedins. Enough said.

@Pears Eriksson went into retirement mode the second he signed the contract it seemed. His hands turned to stone.
-
@Iron Fist That doesn't explain all those 20+ goal years he had throughout his career.
Eriksson was thought to be a good solid winger at a good price. He was reasonably a decent skater, better numbers than Lucic, and was younger than Neal.

A passage from Ian McIntyre's new article https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ekman-larsson-doesnt-need-no-1-canucks-provide-value/ Daniel Sedin, who along with brother Henrik rejoined the organization in June as a special advisor to Benning, told Sportsnet 650 radio that Ekman-Larsson took “full responsibility” for his play the last couple of years and would be better in Vancouver. “The main thing for me is he’s professional, he’s a leader,” Sedin said. “He’ll be so good with Quinn and (defenceman Jack) Rathbone, I think, teaching them how to be professional. It’s not about him, it’s about the team. He’ll do anything to help the team win and he brings everything you want in a teammate and a leader.” But it’s doubtful Ekman-Larsson will bring enough on the ice to make everyone believe he is full value for the annual $7.26-million cap charge the Canucks face after the Coyotes agreed to retain $990,000 in salary for each of the next six years. OEL has the Sedins' endorsement. Enough said. Pay attention to people like Wolfgang Durst, Squam, and Combover. These guys are not fans of this team, but trolls. It doesn't mean that things can't be criticized, but the overemphasis of the negative parts of this team clearly indicate bias.

I don't know if this has been posted. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ekman-larsson-doesnt-need-no-1-canucks-provide-value/ A part of this article had this to say: Daniel Sedin, who along with brother Henrik rejoined the organization in June as a special advisor to Benning, told Sportsnet 650 radio that Ekman-Larsson took “full responsibility” for his play the last couple of years and would be better in Vancouver. “The main thing for me is he’s professional, he’s a leader,” Sedin said. “He’ll be so good with Quinn and (defenceman Jack) Rathbone, I think, teaching them how to be professional. I'm not so worried about OEL if Sedins think OEL will help.

Horvat for sure will re-sign. Miller's on a very good contract, and it's likely he'll demand more in his next one, which is fine. Depending on how things go from here, I can imagine Miller staying here, especially with our big loaded talent. Vancouver looks serious about competing, and I hope they prove the fans how good they really are.

[Buyout] Canucks terminate Virtanen’s contract
Dazzle replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Honestly, the girl and Virtanen seem to have their own issues to sort out. There's obviously more to the story than what the girl purports it to be, but Virtanen has a lot of question marks as well. It may or may not mean anything that Virtanen denied wrongdoing. One good thing, if there was something like that, is that he's not mouthing off to the media about his innocence, which takes away the leverage the girl could have (He likely has a lawyer that forbids him from saying anything too). Basically any more discussion of the case pushing the narrative toward Jake will only hurt the girl's case, so we will never hear the exact details of 'what happened' from this point forward. It's a he/she said story. And yes, it is terrible for Virtanen if this story was in fact a fabrication on the girl's part. We don't really know though. That's what's so difficult about this case. -
Everyone knows the UFA signings have been anchors at this stage. If the Luongo recapture penalty and the flat cap didn't happen, the team would still be fine cap wise. That being said, Benning got rid of his mistakes and improved his team than last year. Beagle isn't really that bad, but could've been maybe a little cheaper. Roussell got hurt and wasn't really the same. Eriksson was just a poor fit for our team, but maybe the pressure of losing money in his other business didn't help him at all. When have you ever said something positive about the team, like you know, the prospects? Every single time it's always negativity from you. It's really hard to see how you're objective. In a dire situation, there are positives.

There won't likely be criminal charges because frankly, the evidence to be used in a criminal case is probably pretty weak because of the time passed, plus loss of evidence. I can understand why she didn't report, but every detail could have helped her for a formal complaint. Three years later, I assume text messages will be available before and after the hotel encounter. However, they may help and hurt the victim at the same time. If she continued talking to him afterwards, there could be the counterargument from Virtanen's lawyers that her accusations are exaggerated. Furthermore, and this is a reiteration from above, the physical evidence is likely long gone. Unless there was a camera rolling during the altercation, we have no idea what happened in that room. There is just not enough because the standard in a criminal case is substantially higher than civil. Therefore, this is likely going to be a civil case. Personally, I think she can only win if Virtanen settles, which is not much of a win, but better than nothing. Either way, Virtanen brought this problem to himself. -
So did he redeem himself then? Or are you going to push an anti-Benning narrative here? It's pretty obvious about the bias when any changes are viewed negatively for whatever reason. In terms of cap dumps, Benning did a lot better than PHI and NYI. Of course, you'll never point that out because it'll hurt your opinion on it.

His team is chock full of journeyman guys mixed with some very unproven young guys, which the latter is to be expected. However, he messed up by passing on Stenlund or Carlsson of CBJ. Stenlund would've fit their timeline and positional need, and was for sure an NHL talent. Carlsson is a 25 yo defenceman. Stuff like this is why I think Francis overanalyzed with his analytics lol.
