  1. Eberle is not an example of Moneyball, nor is Larsson. In fact, much of their acquisitions don't make any sense. There's no sense of identity. Their D is so unproven. At the same time, they signed Larsson for four years. I think Seattle is gonna be a bottom feeding team next year. Disastrous expansion draft imho.
  2. Francis has no clue what he's doing. Lmfao. Bad expansion picks, questionable FA signings.
  3. Larsson at 4x4 doesn't though. Eberle isn't that young either, with a longish contract. I guess we'll see what happens.
  4. I think this is a good extension for Smith. Canucks should've done something like this for the backup.
  5. I normally take your words quite seriously, but are you telling me these expansion picks were the best ones Seattle could've done? Assuming they were trying to be competitive, obtaining Larsson and Eberle would make sense. However, they also picked up a lot of questionable players, and it's pretty clear thus far that it wasn't about the money. Was Lind really the best choice for Seattle, roster wise?
  6. They sure proved that by making a splash with Larsson...
  7. So why sign Larsson for four years? Signing and trading is usually not a great way to attract free agents, especially when the team is gonna be crap for the next few years. This strategy isn't good at all.
  8. And signing Larsson, as you pointed out, makes no sense if your plan is to tank.
  9. Why announce it though? I'm kinda curious what this announcement serves to do.
  10. But Seattle didn't have side deals with Columbus, at least that's what 's being reported by Aaron Portzline, and they took a very mediocre player in Bayreuther. Have you heard of him? Neither have I. Could've taken Stenlund & Carlsson as depth pieces. They're not expensive either.
  11. I'd be super impressed if they did - and i'll take back everything bad I said about Ron Francis' performance.
  12. It doesn't hurt them at all to try and ice a competitive team. They don't even have to spend draft picks; they could've leveraged them with teams that were desperate to protect their own. No matter how you spin this, Ron Francis missed this opportunity. WOW.
  13. That's a horrible lineup. I can't believe Francis chose a mixture of decent to poor players. Seattle could've iced a competitive playoff-bound team, with the help of a little free agency to help him. BIG blunder for Seattle.
  14. No it's not LOL. If Lou thinks NYI is gonna be good for the next few years, he's likely gonna package his first round picks to make these playoff pushes. Therefore, starting from 3rd round picks onward, for the next three years, he's gonna have to draft somebody good. Otherwise, his prospect pool is gonna risk getting stagnant (ala Gillis). Losing Eberle was due to Lou protecting Clutterbuck and Martin.
  15. Wow, Kraken are proving more and more that they're gonna suck LOL. These were the picks they could've had. Forwards Riley Barber Kyle Criscuolo Turner Elson Valtteri Filppula Sam Gagner Luke Glendening Darren Helm Taro Hirose Vladislav Namestnikov Frans Nielsen Bobby Ryan Evgeny Svechnikov Dominic Turgeon Hayden Verbeek Defensemen Alex Biega Dennis Cholowski Danny DeKeyser Christian Djoos Joe Hicketts Dylan McIlrath Marc Staal Troy Stecher Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier Kevin Boyle Kaden Fulcher Calvin Pickard And they picked Cholowski, who according to this article, is basically a bust for Detroit. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2021/07/18/detroit-red-wings-unprotected-list-dennis-cholowski-nhl-expansion-draft-seattle-kraken/8007277002/ Cholowski, 23, has not developed into the potential the Wings saw in him in 2016, when then-GM Ken Holland and director of amateur scouting Tyler Wright described Cholowski as a high-end offensive defenseman. He is an NHL-caliber skater and passer, but his lack of assertiveness has cost him multiple chances at establishing a foothold with the Wings. In 104 NHL games dating to the 2018-19 season, Cholowski has 10 goals and 27 points and a minus-47 rating. He has 35 points and a minus-19 rating in 69 career games with the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins. Terrible GMing.
  16. I guess. Seattle is off to a very poor start. Are they addicted to drafting high?
  17. Lou Lam/NYI - officially the biggest loser of expansion draft.

    2nd - 2021

    2nd - 2022

    3rd - 2023

    Eberle

    All gone. LOLOLOL.

Was Eberle the only NHL player taken by Seattle

^ more like just being cheapos and not selecting the best available talent.

I think the expansion fee really got to the ownership.

Yeaaaaaahp. We need a Martin or Reaves but we wouldnt expose Pearson because of it. Or whatever Eberle eqv.

  18. Big Brainz Francis trying to make a next level roster with a bunch of random players. He ended up picking Eberle from NYI. It's not a bad pick, but there's something to be said about LOU LAM of NYI. He lost a 2nd this year, a 2nd for 2022, and a 3rd for 2023, AND EBERLE for free. https://elitesportsny.com/2021/07/21/nhl-expansion-draft-seattle-kraken-to-select-islanders-forward-jordan-eberle-report/
  19. Not so hot take - Seattle's expansion picks are absolutely horrific. They smoked pot.

@Dazzle Sometimes the best move is not to do anything (as in selecting an overpaid, past their prime NHL "vet".    We'll find out one way or another soon enough.

Outside Dunn what does Seattle have “currently” for puck moving defencemen? We’ll find out real quick how good a team is with just defensive defencemen.

As a pot smoker I am offended by this. Except not really because I’m too laid back to care.

Also, they had a strategy to draft defense first and keep the cap low to weaponize cap space for trades and free agents.

Honestly a pretty solid strategy depending on what their next moves are. The next few weeks will be telling.

  20. ...but that's because you don't understand the ANALYTICZ /sarc Seriously though, Columbus had these players available... Zac Dalpe (F) Max Domi (F) Nathan Gerbe (F) Mikhail Grigorenko (F) Ryan MacInnis (F) Stefan Matteau (F) Cliff Pu (F) Kole Sherwood (F) Kevin Stenlund (F) Calvin Thurkauf (F) Daniel Zaar (F) Gavin Bayreuther (D) Gabriel Carlsson (D) Adam Clendening (D) Michael Del Zotto (D) Scott Harrington (D) Dean Kukan (D) Cameron Johnson (G) And they chose Gavin Bayreuther... AHL depth?
  21. If the media is to be believed, I'm not really impressed by Kraken's picks. They chose some random bloke in CBL and apparently Aaron Portzline says there's no side deal. LOL. "Career minor leaguer" - what the hell is Francis doing?
  22. This is actually bad business for the NHL. Would you feel good if the Canucks lost an impressive RFA in this way? No, this is beyond stupid for the KHL to be allowed this option.
  23. How is this even possible in the NHL/KHL agreements? The Nichushkin situation, if I remember correctly, was something that screwed over Dallas big time. I thought the NHL patched things up so that the KHL can't just poach players under contract. How do you offer someone a contract that already has a pre-existing contract? And if so, there should be compensation when such a situation happens.
  24. I don't think the Canucks had a side deal with Seattle for Lind. If so, Seattle could've gotten someone like Virtanen or Roussel as some kind of sweetheart deal. I think Seattle just took on low risk and medium reward in Lind. Not to mention that Lind costs so little in cap. Anyway, I'm really not trying to bash Lind, but I don't think he's NHL ready just yet.
