  1. There were other picks that he did have that were late first rounders (an excuse that people liked to use to defend Gillis' lack of prospects). He had Brendan Gaunce as one of them, and the other 25th overall was traded away in the Ballard deal. In short, anything he did draft usually turned out to be nothing.
  2. I believe they don't have two first round picks on hand. You cannot just 'plan' to have a 1st rounder. They can't do this offersheet. Edit: never mind. I stand corrected.
  3. edit: I'm mistaken. They can do this manuever after all.
  4. My point was that Gillis had all the chances in the world to draft a useful player that could have been in the roster. This in turn would've changed the trajectory of the team. All the excuses that Gillis didn't have high picks (McCann was not a high first round pick) is bullcrap. Complete bullcrap.
  5. One can't have it both ways. If we wanted picks, we could trade someone like Boeser or whoever VALUABLE for them. But if the picks are meaningless when compared to the player, then we don't make a trade for the sake of it. If we could get Motte for a 3rd round pick, would you do it? Why would we do that trade?

  7. Not really. The quote doesn't actually say anything about him having trade leverage or not. He just said he's prepared for anything. If a trade doesn't happen to recoup the pick, then he doesn't do it. It makes you wonder what the value of Gaudette was... if Benning could've gotten ANY pick of some kind, I think he would've done it.
  8. Sounds awfully like NYI, yet unlike them, Benning didn't have to give up picks to get rid of a contract. HMM...
  9. Where was he drafted and who drafted him again? oh yeah, Gillis couldn't draft a player like this because he was never gifted "high picks" right?
  10. ESP obviously doesn't care about discrimination, so long as it doesn't affect HIM. He was bold enough to mention that he's in an interracial relationship. However, he made extensive efforts to talk about how this player shouldn't proclaim about being proud about coming out of the closet, IN SPITE of the present discrimination. Prokop should be proud. He has a lot of supporters. But he's also brave too because there's still a significant (contrary to ESP's claim that they're a minority) number of people who think this announcement hurts their poor little ears.
  11. You just did. Otherwise, why mention it at all to prove your 'point', if discrimination wasn't an issue? You should have just shut up, period. Let him celebrate all he wants.
  12. You are wrong. You are just twisting your definitions of "playing hard against" to fit your narrative. You're also not listening to those who obviously know more than you. https://thecanuckway.com/2021/07/17/canucks-acquire-jason-dickinson-from-the-dallas-stars/ Analytically-speaking, Dickinson should fit in quite nicely in the Canucks’ bottom-six. He fills the heft card at 6’2″ and 200 pounds, and brings strong forecheck and sound defensive fundamentals to the table. He finished last season with a faceoff winning percentage of just 47.91%, but has steadily improved over the past two years. Dickinson also registered 40 blocked shots, 21 takeaways and 12 drawn penalties over 51 games, while he posting a CF/60 rating of 50.1 in all situations. From here: Dallas fans
  13. There's a lot more than a minority that don't like gays. Gays are not always accepted. Hungary just passed a law to bar teaching LGBT material to kids under 18. No mention about gay stuff until then, at all. That's a long life to live if you know you don't fit that category of being straight. Furthermore, there's plenty of anti-gay people in the US/Canada. To say it's a "minority" is ignoring the problem. It IS a big problem. Same with racism. We just like to think it's a 'minority' problem. I'm not racist. I'm guessing you're not racist either. How the hell do we still have racists? Well, they're around, sometimes secretly. Sometimes not.
  14. They're really going after the former 1st rounders, aren't they?
  15. So instead of saying you were wrong, you go back to this line. Yes, you should be waiting and seeing, but the evidence thus far argues AGAINST what you and others have been pushing. That is, the false narrative that Dickinson isn't "hard to play against". You've obviously been cherrypicking things to respond to. Anything that goes against your original thesis is ignored. What is your role here? To troll? You received your answers from others. You're the one choosing not to listen to anything.
  16. Are you here to just stir up controversy? You are clearly searching for things to criticize, rather than contributing anything meaningful to the discussion. Simply telling people you can't find videos about the player doesn't mean you have a valid point. You glossed over the articles and claim that this guy isn't the solution. So what's your purpose here? We could bring in Crosby and he still wouldn't live up to your 'standards'.
  17. Do you want videos of Dickinson to block a shot or something? Here are some articles that talk about his shot suppression skills. https://canucksaggr.com/stories/15970/the-tape-the-traits-that-make-jason-dickinson-an-elite-shot-suppressor-and-why-he-struggles-on-offence https://canucksarmy.com/2021/07/18/analyzing-jason-dickinsons-game-how-help-canucks/ If you're going to be negative, at least do some research on the topics on hand. You'll quickly realize how silly you'll look.
  18. Did you even bother reading about what others have said on him, especially those who clearly have more information?
  19. Dickinson shifted around Dallas’ middle-six last season filling in as the team’s 3rd-line center and 2nd-line left winger while putting up impressive underlying defensive numbers. According to Evolving Hockey, Dickinson was in the 97th percentile for defensive value in their model. While past statistics are not always the best indicators of future outcomes, the numbers, when combined with video, do show that Dickinson was exceptionally effective at suppressing offence last season. And the fact that Dickinson is still in his athletic prime makes it a good bet that his defensive acumen should continue during his early years with the Vancouver Canucks. But for a middle-six center that can play up and down the lineup and on the wing, can kill penalties, and is among the league’s elite at suppressing chances against, Dickinson fills an enormous need in Vancouver’s top-nine. If Green can use a third line led by Dickinson to limit the opposition’s best while also winning the shot attempt battle, that should bode very well for a team with a top-six that can be lethal on the scoresheet. (Source: https://canucksarmy.com/2021/07/18/tape-traits-jason-dickinson-elite-shot-suppressor-struggles-offence/) But of course, you'll just regurgitate your wrong opinions of Dickinson right? He's 'just' a "one dimensional Ryan Johnson" right? You're so clueless.
  20. Our prospects have never been better. Complaining about the lack of prospects is laughable at this point. We had it real bad before, but not anymore.
  21. Then how would you fix the team then? Blow the team up? Canucks add one piece in Dickinson - and you say the problems are so insurmountable, he can't fix it. Then Shaw, a defensive coach, is brought in. Oh, the team is so bad they can't fix it? Obviously team defense is being addressed right now.
  22. Could it be that you don't know so much about the player as you pretend to be? If you don't even know about his status as a player, that means you have gaps of knowledge. You also don't seem to be aware that our defensive problems stem from our massive shot against numbers, which Dickinson has traditionally been very good with. Therefore, Benning is addressing this aspect. https://canucksarmy.com/2021/07/18/tape-traits-jason-dickinson-elite-shot-suppressor-struggles-offence/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Again, you've been proven that you know so little about the player that you're criticizing. Just learn to be quiet when this happens.
  23. Seriously, you know nothing about hockey. If you did, you wouldn't use this line of logic. You also have no clue what Dickinson does. Dickinson is a defensive stalwart. He is only ONE piece to the puzzle when it comes to shot suppression, which he is very capable of doing. If our shots against have problems, you need a player like Dickinson. You should know this because you watched him, right?
  24. I'm amused that Dickinson is a player you've watched so much, and you don't even know his status on his team. Is it your MO to be negative, even if there's nothing to be negative about? You've been thoroughly embarrassed in this thread and you're whining about being targeted for having WRONG opinions.
  25. Wow, I'm really curious to know what you think about Gillis then. We had next to no prospects to speak of, and yet you're complaining about prospects now? Gillis was the reason we had to even 'fill holes on the fly'. The usual suspects here are just supporting their friends here, like Convincing John/lmm, but have no intention of discussing anything beyond their own opinions - even when they've been invalidated by other people.
