He posted it just now as he was typing in this thread, so I highly doubt he even watched 10 minutes of this clip when he posted it. This is no different than linking some joesmoe talking about COVID without actually understanding what was in the documentary. That's what I have a problem with. You can't just link this long video and walk away thinking you 'made a point'. I, too, will be watching this clip later on.

For your information, maybe because I'm a history student, people like us already realized the effects of residential school system and/or colonialism on indigenous people. The real issue is that not everyone is being taught the same way, so people like you 'think' this is new news. It's really not. The conditions within the residential school system are well-known to be poor. As I said, there was a whistleblower named Dr. Peter Bryce who was aware of the conditions. The genocide aspect comes from how indigenous people have been treated. For instance, the destruction of their culture (i.e. forbidding the use of language at these schools, no dancing, etc) was a way for the Canadian governments/people to turn these 'barbaric people' (not my words, just how they were seen by racists back then) into people who were 'civilized' (also not my words). The result? Deaths due to maltreatment, including sexual assaults and death. There's also a bunch of kids that tried to run away from these schools. Canada, as a whole, has not retold the history well, so not everyone is entitled to the same kind of realization that some of us do. It's really not so simple. You are going to find good and bad things in history. You cannot just cherrypick one event and compare it recklessly with another 'big' event from another country that was predicated on an entirely different platform (i.e. Hitler in Germany) That is how you distort events into something they are not. More accurately, Canada's residential schools were social and political attempts to convert indigenous people into being 'Canadian'. This involved 'killing' their cultures. It failed badly. I don't understand how you can draw this comparison to Hitler. Sure there may be similarities, but the comparisons are not close enough to be worth mentioning.

What a joke. If you can't handle a contending opinion that challenges your own view, maybe you shouldn't hold the opinion in the first place, since your ego is so fragile. Talking to me in this 'tone' shows me that you have no ability to comprehend concepts of scale. First off, "race motivated" is a problematic term for many reasons. Indigenous people aren't a race. They are a collection of groups from different backgrounds that are all under the umbrella term 'indigenous'. Likewise, Jewish people are not a 'race'. We use these labels to help us understand things, but when you start introducing concepts of 'race', you ignore the shades in between. Secondly, I never ignored the similarities. myself and others have challenged them. You're the one that isn't able to demonstrate any level of comprehension and rationality.

It's not worthy of a comparison, IMHO. I think you should do a closer revision of what you said if you compare it to Hitler. Millions of deaths towards Jews, Communists, and cripples - anyone not worthy of being "German". There was a system to kill these people via concentration camps and gas chambers. What Canada did was not right, but the comparisons to Hitler is just not accurate. When you make hyperbolic comparisons like that, you will lack the reference points that make your point valid. For instance, the scale of the deaths for one, are vastly different. There is also no "blame" towards indigenous people for ruining Canada. That was VERY specific in Hitler's rhetoric. It's not Hitler-like. That is just wrong. This is a Canada problem, and it's not unique to other problems within other countries.

I think these discoveries reveal how deep the Canadian problems are. However, I intended to make such a broad, seemingly useless statement because we are narrowing into one particular angle right now. The advantages of this is that we see the events in a deeper manner, yet we may miss out on the overall context. Canada, like any other country, has its share of guilt. It's unrealistic to pretend otherwise. Yet we have to be careful not to use our modern sensibilities (a term I will loosely use to describe our sense of 'morality', which I would argue is hardly refined because we still have all forms of discrimination in play) to judge the past. For every 'good' thing that a person has done for the country, he (usually he) is probably guilty of racism, but that is most certainly not always the case. For example, Dr. Peter Bryce was the medical doctor who tried to blow the whistle on residential schools. He tried to report to the government that the conditions were crap, but he was shut down and forcibly retired. It's only more recently that his legacy is brought back into light. At the same time, this was ALSO the same guy who tried to reinforce anti-Indian (people from India) from coming into Canada. Therefore, if we're going on a historical hunt for 'good' people, you will not likely find it. That is the flaw of the so-called cancel culture. If we topple every statue known to Canada, what are we hoping to achieve? The Queen Victoria statue was perhaps a symbol of colonialism, yet she was referred to by indigenous people as the "great mother". If Macdonald's statue was worthy of displacement, is Victoria equivalent to him then? What we actually see from these statue removals is the lack of context, and extreme examples of tribalism over an oversimplified history. People are rallying without actually understanding the history. "Statues can be replaced, children can't", someone said. This is true; however, that does not justify the statue removal, upon closer inspection. In fact, that is destruction at public expense. I, for one, do not advocate for destruction of property as that is not democratic. If we don't like something, we can destroy it then? Not to mention that we still do not solve the current issue of residential schools, and its continued impact on indigenous people. In other words, topping a statue will do nothing except divide people. Should we then advocate for the government to use violent crackdowns on those using violence against the state? Does that make it legitimate because there is a perceived lack of order? If this isn't acceptable, then the other situation is not justifiable either.

The lack of compunction by this guy is horrible. He's totally in it for the money, and doesn't care how he does it.

I have no idea how he got the name "The Steamer", but a Cleveland Steamer... yuck... Reminds me of Satan being traded to the Devils... which apparently never happened, but I thought he did. LOL.

Except Laine is on two teams right now and is looking more and more one dimensional than ever. Boeser actually has tried to evolve his game, and it's looking really good. He's now scoring AND not being a liability for the team. I'll take Boeser over Laine any day because if Laine isn't scoring, he's not helping the team in other ways.

The "Hindsight is 20/20" Draft Reflection Thread
Dazzle replied to HKSR's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Yes, I meant to say that the 1st + Grabner was a huge overpayment. In the end, the 1st turned out to be Quinton Howden (a bust) for FLA, but it doesn't excuse the fact that Gillis threw away a lot of picks/prospects for the same reasons that Benning is being criticized for. Yet every so often, you'll see someone defending the above trade with Grabner like it was 'the right move'. FLA was instantly relieved from having 4 mill taken off their roster, and thankfully, they got two (Grabner being one of them) first round picks. In the end, FLA waived Grabner for nothing and just got a 1st rounder. Ballard was never used in the playoffs, except one game if I recall, and yes, AV was absolutely trash at handling young players. -
I don't regret reading every post in this thread.

I'm not surprised that someone like you who is critical about Benning would let the OP's comments slide, even though you can see very well that his ideas are not deserving of a thread.

Regardless of the outcome, I think the Canucks are done with him. He was given a lot of chances. This latest development actually happened in the past, and not something that happened THIS offseason. Nevertheless, Virtanen only has himself to blame for this, regardless if he's innocent/guilty of the accusations. I personally think it's pointless for us to piece together what happened. The girl took 3 years to report this, and it likely served to her detriment. We have no idea how much of what she's saying is true or not, in reality, even though we're supposed to believe people like her. There's a reason why she is going the route of civil, along with criminal. IMHO, she probably has a weak criminal case. (Time lapsing, and a lack of evidence). I honestly think her only chance of winning is if Virtanen settles. It's not really a win, but it's better than nothing.

[Report] Coyotes name Andre Tourigny as head coach

He seems to be well-liked by fans of the 67s. -
[Report] Coyotes name Andre Tourigny as head coach

Coyotes have been a very painful experiment. I don't know how this Tourigny guy is going to fix their problems. Apparently, several people here think he'll do a good job and think it's a good hire. Former Ottawa 67s coach. Seems to be a great guy. -
The friendly wager... Trudeau vs Biden
Dazzle replied to DarthMelvin's topic in General Hockey Discussion
You have a lot of things to say about this topic, but hilariously, none of it has any substance whatsoever. Is that your MO, Dumb Nuck? -
Have they learned from their experiences?

Thanks. I agree that hot weather is really nice. That being said, I do not like sweating in the middle of the night and losing sleep these couple of days.

Same here. Everyone likes to make excuses for why he won't get be a good player. Ie. Skating, size, playoffs etc. His elite talent will shine through regardless of his 'short'comings. I expect his floor to be 25 goals and potentially upwards of 40 goals in his prime as his upside. Here are some posts about Dobson: Report 2018 NHL Entry Draft in Prospects / In the System Posted June 2, 2018 Agreed. I think 30 points is his floor... 2018 NHL Entry Draft in Prospects / In the System Posted June 24, 2018 Dobson was my guy but I had Hughes right behind. Time will tell who will be the better defenseman but I hope both can succeed to do well in this league. I couldn't find much on Pettersson so I'm gonna let you take the win on that one. I actually didn't post much that draft which is unlike me. Based on my few posts though if Makar had been available I would've picked him. This is what I had to say about the Virtanen draft and picking Ehlers: Im a little warmer to the idea of drafting Virtanen. It's not because he has a great shot, skating or tenacity. The main reason I pick Virtanen over the other prospects is that I see him at worst a really good 3rd line hockey player but most likely an upside of 2nd line winger, MAYBE a 1st line winger...hence a really safe pick. Also what intrigues me the most is that he is one of the youngest of his draft class and will have ample time to hone his skill. I think Virtanen is maybe more of a project than some of the other prospects, and I expect him to take minimum 3 years to make it to the NHL and should not be rushed. I still think his potential upside is less than Ehlers and comparable with Ritchie but is most likely the safest pick of the three. I pick Ehlers if I want the most exciting game-breaker and score 70 + points. He will instantly increase the speed of the team and would likely be the team's leading scorer after the Sedins retire/fade. Would be an instant fan-favourite. On the other hand, I don't see him as a total bust but maybe 20g 20a 40 point scorer playing on second line at worst(?) Fair enough. I take a win. You take a win. Let's call it a draw. I wouldn't have expected anyone to talk about Pettersson so highly, so if that was in fact the case, you'd clearly be in the minority. Good that you projected Caufield though. His drop was kind of expected, given his size, but again, I'm totally happy that he's overcome all those questions with his skill.
