  1. I agree with you that she has a huge hill to climb to 'prove' her case. The long delay in reporting (no physical evidence), plus the fact that she agreed to meet up with him at the hotel, plus the fact that she didn't try to leave the area (in her confession on the board, she says that she just laid there thinking he wouldn't do anything more). Even if Virt did do the things she claimed, she can't prove it now.
  2. He should've. Kane's incident should've been a learning moment. And lol, no, my claim doesn't 'assume' anything. You're the only one assuming my position. Look at the rest of my posts. I haven't assumed anything. I don't know what happened.
  3. Looks like management did something good after all....
  4. Or don't put yourself in bad positions.
  5. I don't know about you, but texts are suggestive at best. Maybe she only wanted to do a certain act - and that's it. Anything more would have been crossing the line. Do you explicitly tell your girl that you're going to bang her via text? Probably not. Sexting is not quite the same as giving consent. And that's where texting as some kind of 'proof' of consent will have its limits.
  6. There isn't really going to be any 'proof'. I personally think she is hoping that Virt comes to some kind of settlement based on what was discussed. I'm not necessarily implying that she is doing it for nefarious purposes, but settling is essentially the only way she can win. I do not think there will be any conclusive 'proof', unless there is a hidden camera somewhere, that will confirm nor deny what each of them have been saying. Frankly, both put themselves in this position. She shouldn't have accepted his invitation to go up in the room, knowing that there might POSSIBLY be a situation where she wouldn't be comfortable to be in. This isn't victim shaming. This is just common sense. It doesn't mean Virt had the liberty to do whatever he wanted - far from it. Virt, on the other hand, has had a decidedly poor reputation (according to all the hearsay surrounding him). He should've learned what not to do from the Kane incident, in which Kane was actually proven innocent, despite the accuser claiming that he raped her. The timelines and the story did not match up to the true events, which included Kane not actually being where she claimed he was.
  7. To be fair, Gallant was busy with helping Canada win gold at the IIHF tournament. I think that says something about his ability to coach. Having Mangiapane certainly didn't hurt either.
  8. I don't think the girl has much evidence to prove that something criminal happened. Whatever physical evidence that could have been used as evidence is long gone. Therefore, he's probably not gonna have any record. There's a reason why she's going the civil route as well, as some kind of backup plan.
  9. Wow, if that's what you came up with, I don't know how I can help you.
  10. You know what's funny? The typical negative nancies on this board - we all know who they are - have nothing to say about this. Makes you wonder...
  11. It's true. There's very little a person can do when rape accusations get flung at you. Just do your part and not put yourself in positions where you could get screwed. One way to protect yourself is not be an asshole. Also, reputation does go a long way. Most importantly, find better women. Good women don't abuse the rape card. The ones who make false rape claims are hated by everyone, including the real women.
  12. Horvat was actually drafted by Gillis, who traded away Schneider. It's one of the few picks that actually have done anything good to this franchise. Everyone else was either injured or they did not suit up for the Canucks in any meaningful way. With that kind of track record, no wonder why our prospect pool was never really filled up, but actually emptied.
  13. I think you bring up a really good point. We've seen how Hughes got bullied by LV in the last playoffs. We've also seen Petey get beat up too. The lack of size has always been a concern for these players, but them being elite players, they find a way around it. I think players like Sergachev and Caulfield, both of whom have their own deficiencies, may or may not flourish on the Canucks in the same ways that they have for their respective teams.
  14. If the girl suddenly has cold feet about doing the act, she absolutely has the ability to withdraw consent, especially if he said or did something she didn't like. I mean, more often than not, if a girl consents to sex and everything happened in an agreeable way to all parties involved, then there shouldn't (normally) be any problems. But the situation with Virt and her is not that simple. We just don't know. We can speculate about it all day, but we might be off-side to do it. For all we know, they both could be in the wrong.
  15. Actually, you can. Consent can be taken away at any time. If you ask someone to do something they're not comfortable doing, and then make them do it anyway, that is a violation. What we don't know is when Virtanen and her disagreed. Their stories are substantially different.
  16. Do you have anything else to contribute?
  17. I think this is an important point, and something I had to reflect on after Benning & everyone else was retained (this happened before these new updates). It's clear that ownership doesn't listen or capitulate to noisy fans. That is evidence of strong leadership and proof that he has a backbone. We did not panic like the other teams did, and for that, I think Aquilini deserves some recognition. It would have been too easy to just fire everyone and use them as scapegoats. The team has a POSITIVE relationship with all of its staff, contrary to what the media reports. I am also more impressed that Aquilini is willing to add quality personnel (by hiring Shaw) to improve this team in every way possible, rather than just simply firing people. The theme of loyalty is clearly being emphasized, for the most part. If players wanted Green or Baumer gone, they would have been. Hughes, to my surprise, spoke pretty highly of Baumer. It seems to me that the players do have a significant say on matters, which is the most important thing. The media is absolutely garbage. We've talked about how wrong they've been this offseason. Let's make sure we do NOT react to what they have to say again. Hell, all of Canadian media was wrong about the Leafs. LOL. Special mention to Button who was wrong, but OWNED UP to it. He said he is eating crow and is laughing about it. Didn't make excuses.
  18. Having heard Shaw, these are the highlights I picked up. - Shaw is clearly well-versed with the game, but at the same time, said a lot of stuff that wasn't really shouldn't be that much of a surprise. He didn't criticize our current roster, but promised more hopeful changes. He sounds like he will be given a lot more latitude about all facets of the game. That can ONLY be a good thing. - winning 1 on 1s, and how that influences all five guys to be more aggressive. I remember Green being huge on details, so I think he and Shaw will get along just fine. - penalty kill - we're likely to see a lot more shot blocking, based on what Shaw said. Reduction of shots, and picking our battles for the PK. I think based on what Shaw said, we will see a tremendous improvement in this department. - He emphasized that the defensive game will be a nightmare for oppositions (he didn't use this word specifically, but I like this change. We were far too passive, in my opinion). - Also recognized that the style of game is all about transition - how does the team transition as fast as possible to offense. It's definitely easier said than done, but I also think his philosophy will mesh quite well with Green's style of game. We won't see a trap system, in my opinion, based on what he described. - Points out that Hughes needs to improve on his 1 on 1 battles, but praises him for his skills and attitude. - Will talk to Myers about how he envisions himself on the team, but I am pretty sure he will interview everyone. - He also recognized several players that weren't on the team (i.e. Chandler Stephenson and how he neutralized Makar in the playoffs on one play). - Baumer was praised (albeit very briefly) about tracking ice time Much like how other people have said, the Shaw hire sounds like an excellent one. I honestly think Baumer was in way over his head, but he'll for sure benefit with Shaw's expertise. I'm super excited for Shaw.
  19. Yes. However, Green has full input on what players he wants on his roster. You're telling me all this time that Benning constructs his team that Green didn't sign off on it? The problem of the bottom 6 not producing is just as much of a Benning problem as it is a Green one, if we had to be perfectly fair. Green obviously has an idea of what he wants from his bottom 6. The problem is that the personnel didn't perform as expected (sometimes due to injury), and the players are overpaid. Enough Benning blaming. Green HAS to be accountable, and now he has a defensive coach helping him in Shaw.
  20. I read his quote, but I guess people perceive it differently based on who said it.
  21. It's true. Sometimes rape can happen without any physical resistance. Maybe there's no physical proof of this resistance. Maybe she consented to the sex and changed her mind in the middle of it (for various reasons). From the criminal aspect, I don't think she'll have a very strong case, especially if the rumours are true that she texted him afterwards (and had an ongoing conversation). Virtanen is saying that she consented, and claims to have proof of this (through the texts).
  22. I think you are right that the victim blaming thing is something we have to remember when analyzing the situation; however, if we are to search for the truth, we have to look at all angles of it, including the accuser. You cannot create a truth based on one perspective that resonates with a particular audience (and this applies as much to Virtanen's supporters who feel he did not commit rape). It sounds like a cop-out, but the situation sounds a lot more complicated than she's a victim and he's the aggressor. (Not saying you were making assumptions to begin with, but just adding to the discussion). It really doesn't do her any favours (and there are lots of reasons why she did not report) that the report came so late. I've read that even with evidence, at least some victims have trouble convincing law enforcement that they were actually raped. No doubt the situation has been bad for sexual assault survivors. Therefore, the civil lawsuit route seems to be a backup plan for her, in the hopes Virtanen will settle. Some people will ultimately look at this as blackmail from her part. Others will complain about the legal system not protecting SA victims. Even if she throws out the lawsuit, that doesn't mean Virtanen is innocent. However, if Virtanen is pursuing "special fees" (I read this somewhere else), that sounds to me like he will counter-sue, in which case the onus is back on her. Maybe Virtanen is innocent out of this. Maybe not. I just know that people on twitter who jumped to the defence of either party are IDIOTS.
  23. Sexual misconduct, in this particular case, IS rape. Based on the lengthy description by the accuser on the online forum, Virtanen sure sounded like a rapist. THAT BEING SAID, that is only one version of the events, which may or may not be true. And it's also possible that the version she told, and the version that Virtanen told could have shared truths. It is not simply fair to believe one side over the other. Also, the 'dumb' hockey IQ thing is such a tired stereotype. Virtanen makes dumb decisions, which is tantamount to us making dumb decisions in every day life. He is just scrutinized more so than everyone else. It doesn't make him a 'dumb' hockey player. So no, it's not a 'fact'. That is just a perception. A bias really. What I will agree is that Virtanen has a history of making questionable decisions. Whether Virtanen is innocent or not in this particular situation, he put himself in this position, much like how he basically played himself off the roster. Some of the blame may be attributed to the coaching of WD/TG. Ultimately, he is a big boy and has to mature.
  24. Virtanen wasn't drafted to be a bottom 6 forward. He doesn't penalty kill either. This is like saying that the Canucks miss Eriksson for his defensive prowess. It was pretty obvious that Virtanen for the most part did not fit Green's system/philosophy. I do think that WD/Green deserves some responsibility for Virtanen's lack of success. At the same time, Virtanen has barely put in much of an effort to reforming himself too.
  25. Really have to blame people like Thomas Drance or Johnston. These reporters have been reporting CRAP. Patrick Johnston in particular.
