  1. We were far too tentative in the defensive zone, especially with those cute little passes that could be intercepted by aggressive forwards. We victimized ourselves with how those players were used. I'm really sure we will see a night and day difference next season.
  2. Poop comes in many colours, including black, brown, green, and yellow. Fun fact.
  3. I think there's also a significant reputation damage. It's foolish not to hear his side of the story and simply side with the 'other'. There's A LOT of questions to be answered still. I really wonder what took him so long to say this outright, not that it would change how people would perceive him anyway. Many of the twitter warriors, for instance, insist that Virtanen is guilty - even before all the evidence has been laid out. I think it's also important that the criminal investigation is ongoing (not likely to get anything from it), alongside a civil one. This, to me, indicates that the accusations are not very strong. Far too much time has passed by (many reasons for this to happen, of course), which most certainly would not assist the accuser, with regards to the criminal aspect. And if there are texts that go back and forth AFTER the said incident, any rape claims could be nullified in court. Let's be clear though: in such a situation, that doesn't 'prove' that rape didn't happen. The only thing that would absolve Virtanen of all wrongdoing is if he wasn't there at all. Unfortunately, he was there. He put himself in that position. Very tricky. In my opinion, this is going to be dealt with on the civil side. And if Virtanen is considering countersuing, this could be a very messy civil case. Even dropping her lawsuit may or may not stop him from proceeding with a countersuit. At best, she's hoping that Virtanen will settle. That is likely her only way to 'win'. In the event that she lied or misrepresented her stuff, she's going to pay big time. Either way, Virtanen is going to get shipped out, no matter what. Such a terrible ending for a player that never could put it together.
  4. Zero chance. They'll just dig up the fact that JB's failure to re-sign Toffoli is a failure of cap management, which is a very tired argument. The media, in this offseason, has made it patently clear for many people that accountability is not on their agenda. Maybe they're pressured by their companies to 'sell' the story, but without accountability, being a respectable journalist is no different than a tabloid writer.
  5. I don't agree about your point on Brown. We were something like 25th in the league on the PP. Our penalty kill was also not great (17th, I think). I do agree with Baumgartner getting fired. We were an absolute tirefire. That being said, I agree with other ppl here that the players saved his (and Green's job). On the other hand, I think Baumgartner is getting reassigned. Brad Shaw is now the defensive guru (I think), since he did that with St. Louis and Columbus. Why do we have so many assistants? Oh well, I'm not complaining. It means Aquilini is willing to invest in this team to get better.
  6. Yes, this is an interesting point to bring up again. This is why we should not believe the journalists in this town, including Ian MacIntyre, at least not completely. Wait and see is what we should be doing as a fanbase, but do not treat their words as gospel. They said many things, and many of those things have turned out to be flat out wrong. Also, props to Aquilini for not being 'cheap'. I'm tired of hearing this baseless accusation, despite him being one of the richest Canadians (and one of the richest sports team owners). Finally, we have stability - an owner who has a backbone and not listen to some of the IDIOT fans that have no idea what they talk about half the time. The media clearly recognizes this, so they fan the fire. They are the ultimate troll.
  7. He was sheltered. The proof is in the minutes that he was used compared to the other defenceman on the roster. The Canucks simply didn't have another choice. He was still the better option on many nights. I can't stand how Chatfield was used sometimes over Juolevi.
  8. Gillis did this all the time with his trades, and yet most Gillis defenders, if not all, will justify those trades. Trades are calculated risks. The difference? Benning actually has drafted usable players more so than Gillis ever did. Gillis actually fits what you've all been describing - bleeding assets. Yes, everyone knows by now Benning should've kept Toffoli. It's such a tired argument. But you have overstated Madden. The proof is in you pencilling madden as a potential 3C prospect. He was floundering in the AHL last season, and obviously would need more time there before he makes the jump. He also doesn't seem to fit Green's requirements for his roster. The loss of a 2nd was certainly not ideal. After all, a 2nd round could bring in a Demko or Hoglander type.
  9. Benning clearly said that Juolevi lost 10 lbs due to covid. Juolevi has had zero luck with regards to injuries so far, so his sheltered minutes are a reflection to how he was utilized, rather than his inability to play the position. I have not heard about Baumgartner returning, so I would really be curious to know how Juolevi gets utilized when he's fully healthy.
  10. So you're saying the Toffoli trade wasn't good? The trade is/was one of the better acquisitions the Canucks had. He made more of an impact for the Canucks than Madden would, at least in the short term. What happened afterwards is debatable. Madden is not really that big of a loss.
  11. https://www.phillyvoice.com/nhl-trade-rumors-flyers-nolan-patrick-changed-agent-chuck-fletcher-restricted-free-agent/ (Copy and pasted from a bit of the article) I feel for the guy, and I'm not one that wants to bash the guy. But he needs to find a way through his struggles, and running away isn't the solution. He's in the big leagues. There's always going to be criticism. He can play on a team like Arizona, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's going to flourish either. ------------------------- Crossing Broad's Anthony SanFilippo said on his Snow the Goalie podcast with Russ Joy that he believes Patrick made the move because he simply "does not want to be here anymore." “The reason Nolan Patrick switched agents is because he is going to request a trade,” SanFilippo said. “Nolan Patrick does not want to be here anymore; he doesn’t like the criticism that he’s facing, he doesn’t like the spotlight that’s on him, he doesn’t like the coach, at all. I don’t think Nolan Patrick wants to be here.” This is not the first we've heard about Patrick possibly wanting out. The earliest rumblings came back in May when TSN's Frank Seravalli, a former Flyers beat writer, spoke about Patrick's change of representation and named the young center a name to watch this offseason as he could be on the move. "It's certainly possible," Seravalli said of Patrick switching teams this offseason. "He's actually gotten a fresh start off the ice. Nolan Patrick has hired his third agent in three years, now with Rich Evans of West Sports and entertainment. And they’re going through the feeling out process to digest this season and everything that happened in his return to the ice. A little bit disappointing in terms of production. I think you could certainly see Nolan Patrick on the list of players this summer who ask for a fresh start elsewhere. "However, they’re not there yet. And to be fair, the Philadelphia Flyers on their end think that Nolan Patrick is still a player that’s just scratching the surface. They’d like to see him get a full summer of training under his belt and come to camp healthy for the first time in a while. We'll see how that unfolds, but Patrick is an interesting name to watch this offseason as a restricted free agent." It was a disappointing season indeed for Patrick, who finished with just nine total points in 52 games to go along with a minus-30 rating. Part of that was inconsistency in the lineup itself, with Patrick moving up and down the lines throughout the year. But a down season is also understandable following a year in which people were wondering if he'd ever play hockey again. After posting 30 and 31 points respectively in his first two seasons, Patrick missed a key season in his development when he missed all of 2019-20 with migraines that not only made it impossible for him to play in games, but it also made it extremely difficult for him to simply be on the ice at times.
  12. It's funny you say that. Alain Vigneault, the coach, has healthy scratched NP a number of times
  13. Madden realistically was not gonna crack the Canucks roster. He was expendable.
  14. Nolan Patrick from all accounts is a really nice, humble guy. Hope he bounces back, wherever he plays. Edit: Having read from some other accounts that he might not be nice and/or is cocky, I'm not sure anymore.
  15. It's pretty clear that Podkolzin has been used as a yoyo throughout his time in Russia. Maybe this was a way to discourage players from heading over to the NHL. It's not working though.
  16. What about Kevin Connauton? Seems like Gillis gave up on him too early as well. Makes you wonder. Tit for tat. Some trades just end up being horrible in the long run. The Forsling one looks bad in hindsight for Benning, but he was a 5th round pick. The scouting under Benning is miles ahead of whatever Gillis did. Gillis got Horvat (through Schneider, a Nonis pick), and Hutton. Tanev was a free agent signing, so that was good, but that huge hole of prospect was created by Gillis, and the team is still paying for his mistakes. Not nailing a single pick except the aforementioned players has consequences.
  17. Great discussion going on, but I think we're all forgetting something. There's a building practically named "SHAW". That's GOTTA be a draw to come here.
  18. Gillis failed in practically every draft year. It was simply too little too late, even if he did draft Larkin. You're right that having an AHL team was nice, but our prospects were going from Manitoba to Chicago. There was a lot of meddling of our prospects, and ultimately no one of relevance was produced. The fact that Horvat and Hutton are the only pieces from the Gillis regime is totally on him.
  19. He didn't "run back to Montreal", like he was some kind of rat. Montreal's affiliate team hired him initially, and he got promoted. He's paid his dues.
  20. The major point that was missed because you got defensive was that the top four defensemen could likely be gone by this time. Lambos or others are not rated as high. So your point that the Canucks can pick a 'really good' defenseman is worthy of criticism, especially with that condescending tone you gave off in the original post. You were really smug in your responses, but when you lost those exchanges, you took this route. You're not a victim here.
  21. People's* Unfortunately for you, you don't get to say who isn't smarter than you. Go walk away.
  22. It was a conditional first round pick, but sure, it is the one exception. Hardly a rule in the grand scheme of things.
