I guess they don't have as many raving lunatics posing as fans as we do here. If these idiots are that dissatisfied with the direction the team is going.... find another team to root for.

My guess is a lot of them just enjoy being #$$% disturbers and are not actually fans.

We're also the only Canadian city that I know of that riots their own city.

Anti-Benning Canuck fans sore at Benning because of one of the worse years in Canucks history.  Toffoli not signed- blame the OEL anchor talks. Poor start, 50 games in 50 nights, Covid, MC Smythe can't get the boys to get together to bond, 25 games in 25 nights after COVID.

Positives:  Noglander, another high skill forward with a 454 motor.   Goal score  Brook is back.  Demko proves he is the number 1, there can be only one he said to Noglander.  Rathbone will be a NHL player like his buddy, Adam Fox.  The future looks bright with so many good young players.  Need to add the support players.

I was looking at the scores from last night.  Winnipeg came back to win after Edmonton was leading 4-1 in the 3rd period.  Winnipeg leading the series 3-1.  I wonder how the Oilers fans are feeling?

Boston beat Washington last night and closed the series, 4-1.  Notice the Rask had 41 saves.  I wonder how the Leafs fans feel when they see him beat the Leafs most of the time.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Rask in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. However, before playing a regular season game for Toronto, he was traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for former Calder Memorial Trophy-winning goaltender Andrew Raycroft. Toronto management had deemed Justin Pogge their potential goaltender of the future, rendering Rask expendable. It was later revealed the Bruins intended to release Raycroft, which would have made him available to Toronto without having to give up Rask.

Boston is not perfect.  They gave up a ex-member of ZZ Top, Joe Thornton to San Jose. Imagine they had Thornton and Bergeron.

Thornton began the 2005–06 season strongly (33 points in 24 games), making him the team's leading scorer by a substantial margin, but the Bruins were struggling in the standings. On November 30, 2005, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks in a four-player deal, which sent forwards Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau and defenceman Brad Stuart to Boston in exchange for Thornton.[2]

Mike O'Connell, the Bruins general manager who traded Thornton, stated in June 2011 that he "would still make the trade", and that it was "satisfying" that Boston had won a Stanley Cup before Thornton's new team had.[17] O'Connell questioned Thornton's character both on- and off-ice at the time, contrasting him with Patrice Bergeron, who was playing his second full season with the Bruins when the trade took place. O'Connell recalled making a decision with assistant general manager Jeff Gorton to build the team around Bergeron instead of Thornton.

People will often overlook facts that are inconvenient to the position that they want to hold.

Case in point: The election has been rigged!!!!!1 Because trump wasn't voted in! The vote was stolen!!!

Despite the fact that there's NO EVIDENCE of it. Instead, you have people with confirmation bias that are looking to 'prove' the fraud, which doesn't exist. And more accurately, the widespread fraud that doesn't exist. Funny how when the actual fraud that took place, namely people who voted for Trump on their behalf (one of these people was dead), that the people crying election fraud stay silent.

Gadjovich is the one who has some size on him who will be the one you hope pans out, the others you mention again won't help them for a grittier playoffs, Woo is tiny, Lind isn't that big lol, Pod well time will tell he is Russian so they can be pretty strong, but how he adapts to the NHL will be the test. Heck Gusev who was the KHL leading scorer for a couple years I believe before coming to the NHL had a bad year this year and everyone already saying he's done, the leading scorer in the KHL has one bad year in his 2nd NHL year and he's supposedly already done according to some people on CDC. So before everyone pencils in Pod as this superstar already give it time first and see, may not pan out and if he has a bad year then maybe people on CDC will say he's done then as well

Woo is not tiny. He's a very physical defenseman.

    Coaching record with Canucks.

    Willie Dejardins (3 years)

    GP:246  W:109  L:110  OL:27

    Travis Green (4 years)

    GP:282  W:122  L:129  OL:31

Yeah, the win/loss record is not particularly flattering for Green, and was one of the major reasons why I thought he should've been replaced. If WD wasn't good enough, and he had a far more inferior roster, why would Green be?

That being said, his players love playing for him, clearly. If they wanted him gone, he would've been. His contract was up, so Benning (or whoever) could've looked for someone else. Yet the re-signing demonstrates that FA is giving everyone a new leaf for two years. He knows he's gonna get bashed for it, but nobody wants to see anyone fired. The players don't hate Benning nor Green.

Green's system is about limiting quality chances while giving away perimeter shots all day long. If done effectively with sound defenders, the only goals being scored would likely be screened or deflected shots. This is was Chicago used to do to us back in the Sedin era. They kept us to the outside and we struggled hard to develop any quality chances. Green actually impressed me in last years playoffs though - he showed he could adapt. This year is a different story as we are giving up quality chances all over the place - many being two on ones, or breakaways.

On the offensive side, there are too many passes made. You need shots on net to get rebounds, and too much of it was setting up the 'perfect' play. Actually the defensive side too. The outlets are incredibly inefficient. They need to fix everything.

When I look at the UFA list beyond the top ones, I see a lot of cringe worthy potential contracts there for "veteran leaders" with limited on ice contributions.

    Isn't that always the case?

Even in hindsight, Beagle isn't a bad player, and he's a known entity. It just sucks that offense is such a black hole for the fourth line.

there's middle ground between blind loyalty to a gm and being a constant critic of the group.

I've found a comfortable niche where I trust that the highly paid professionals who know infinitely more about running a hockey team than the hundreds of us on this forum combined are doing everything in their power to provide us with a winning team. as much as we care, they care even more. this is their livelihoods, their lives. there will be missteps, as there always are, but the intentions are always correct. based on that. I choose to support the club, knowing that they're doing the best they can to make my dreams come true

I feel like it's a more positive alternative to the demanding and entitlement that is rampant in this fanbase. "I don't accept failure!" "anything less than a stanley cup isn't success!" well f*** you man, you apply for the job and do it yourself, then.

watch and support the team with hope, not expectation.

I thought it's rather ironic that he claims not to "have time for failure", like he's some bustling professional living a fast life - and then he cheers for the Canucks? Or at least he's pretending that he does?

Then people like to pull out the "I've been a supporter for 40 years, now i'm stopping" card. LOL. If this was what got you to stop watching, which I highly doubt because there are definitively worse periods than this, then I don't know if that person should be a Canucks fan at all. Go cheer for the Lightning or Pittsburgh.

We can see the same people complaining about this team, yet not give credit where it's due, nor do they have the ability to reflect on previous opinions.

I am fascinated by this buyout comment. Due to the way a lot of these FA contracts were structured they are effectively incentivized not to be bought out. Virtanen is a no-brainer, but I don't really see another one that's all that obvious in terms of cap savings. Holtby would make some sense, but I thought they needed to expose him in the Seattle draft. Ferland is injured and thus can't be bought out, and Eriksson, Beagle and Roussel don't really move the needle at all in terms of cap space.

Eriksson does provide some relief, but there is dead cap space. I forget how much, but it might be worth it if it's spread out over time.

That exact same as you gain by blindly accepting anything that the organization does regardless of any objective metrics or results.

Your comment is a false dichotomy as well.  You can be critical of the team and still be a fan, it is narcissistic to think you are the abitrar of how exactly what being a fan looks like.   Criticism can and has been earned by the team brass... unless your only definition of being a fan is blind loyalty and cheerleading for a particular head office figure.

Also, don't conflate any particular GM or player with the team.  Someone can love the Canucks and not like the job Benning has done.

Who says that the most productive thing is to simply accept repeated failure?  Would Aquilini spend money if he knew he was going to fill the building no matter how little he spent or how bad the team was?  Holding the team to a high account just maybe means they will actually try to live up to it.

The Canucks objectively have one of the smallest front offices in the league and lowest paid ones.  The money they were spending under the Gillis regime they just aren't spending anymore.  That isn't a recipe for success.  The excuse of not knowing the revenue for the past year and having to pinch pennies is hogwash.  The team made money hand over foot for years and is valued more than half a billion dollars more than what Aquilini paid for it.  They also knew they were getting their huge chunk of the expansion fees handed to them to cover their losses from this year.  They know that the capped escrow means that they are going to make tons of money for the next 5 years as the players pay it back.  Even with all that they wouldn't spend anything to buy out or sign players for this season and try to build on the success of the bubble play.  We went to one of the lowest team payrolls in actual dollars of the league last season.

I have no time for failure, and it is simply fact that GMs with losing records over their entire tenure don't get 9 years to "figure it out".  GMs with losing records get fired because their job is to put a winning product on the ice.

You make some valid points, but I have to laugh at the bolded here. Not sure why you are cheering for the Canucks then, based on what you said. The Canucks have rarely won more than they've lost, overall. I do not cheer for them because they are a perennially winning team. I cheer for them because they were the team I watched growing up. For me, I have a sense of loyalty towards the team, even if there are parts that I can be critical about. Stating you "have no time for failure" while claiming to be a Canucks fan is just hilarious.

I get it but we (can only assume) what factors Aquaman are using to make his decisions; ofcourse, some leaders will do what they think is right regardless of any backlash and others will be influenced by advisors or etc...  Guess, we will see what they mean by - aggressive in the off season (hopefully it is a balanced approach of not mortgaging the future too much for the present). As a longtime, it seems we had been stuck as a bottom to middle of the pack pretender for awhile now but the young core provides some hope of a potential cup contender.

That's a really fair assessment of this team right now. It's not all roses, that's for sure. But there are reasons for being positive. Some people just want to dwell on the negatives and downplay the positives.

Good take - especially, the last statement.  Ditto, hopefully the staff will continue to evolve; and based on the press conference with JB & Green - the issue is the lack of talent (how about, Schmidt who was a different player in Vegas vs in Greens’/Baumers’ system).

If there is a group of fans, ownership would listen to: it would be the season ticket holder and based on the staff re-signings, it seems the (enough) season ticket holders & players still support the staff.

Anyways, at the very least - this forum will not be boring (?).

I don't think the people who claim to be season ticket holders are representative of all, even they're the most vocal. A team gets a lot of money through advertisement, sponsorships etc. I think Aquilini consulted with the players and they obviously gave the green light for Green to be re-signed.

This makes me reflect on my past opinions of him. Also, Benning is still in good favour with the owner. The stability of the business is what I appreciate. There is some evidence that the people do like Benning as an employee, so that's why his job is kept.

A leader makes a decision, and doesn't get pressured by others into going with what the mass wants. It's not a democracy when it's a business to an extent.

At around the 7minute mark they discuss how Holtby's contract is so back-loaded that he is likely a buyout candidate vs an asset after this season

Why would he be bought out? Seattle may or may not claim him. And if they don't, he is still serviceable. I would think there are better buyout candidates than him.

I don’t get why they are having a hard time bringing back Ian Clark? Does this not say something when again we have a big problem retaining people in the organization that are currently part of the organization. If he walks it just looks so bad. I just don’t get how nothing changes and letting people walk are smart moves. Makes no sense.

Ian Clark lives in Florida in the offseason. We've seen the effects of living afar from your family does to Luongo. Put the pieces together and you'll figure it out.
