  1. What the hell? Who did Hrudey talk to about Rathbone being one of the Canucks all time greats? He was high af.
  2. The GM definitely had to make a decision. In hindsight, everything looks clearer than what it is at the time. I do find it hilariously hypocritical for the fanbase to be whining about long-term contracts for players who are going past age 30+ (Toffoli would've been 31/32 at the end of it, if we were to assume he would accept a 4 year contract at 27/28 years old). I can see the paralysis from Benning. He signed Eriksson and that deal has constantly come back to haunt him as the worst UFA signing. He didn't want an Eriksson 2.0, which is understandable because there is NO GUARANTEE that Toffoli would have continued his success here. On the other hand, if Benning could save money by re-signing Virtanen and gambling that he'd do better and that he's turn on a corner, CAN YOU IMAGINE if Virtanen had scored as much as Toffoli this season? Benning would have looked like a genius. You can also bet that if Virtanen had been let go (and produced well after the trade), Benning would get ragged for giving up on him too early. Decisions are not quite as easy to be made when you think about it. So many moving pieces that this fanbase loves to oversimplify.
  3. I think the Canucks did him wrong. 14 games, 4 goals, 6 assists, 10 points. Benning really dropped the ball by not re-signing him.
  4. Why are you making this talk more divisive than it needs to be?
  5. We need to weed out the unethical reporters that are spreading these "gossip" mill stuff from our fanbase. I agree. It serves no one any purpose to have a player whine about his situation to the media like that. Completely unprofessional.
  6. Of course. Much like how they'll be plenty of interest to have a head coach in Vancouver.
  7. What do you want him to say? I suck at defense on that play, and the play before that, etc. Hughes will get better because he seems like a guy who wants to improve in every way possible. Yes, he is young and he'll get better. Also, I would like to see him do better under a different defensive coach.
  8. I guess WD should be given more credit for his work then, by that same token, and I'm not at all a WD fan. Green has proven very little, despite having rosters that have been progressively improved over the years. Green will get one job, find himself overwhelmed by the NHl level and see him somewhere else again. I don't hate him as a person. Just think he's overrated on this board.
  9. That trade was incredibly risky. Gillis mismanaged the goalie situation. Had Horvat not worked out, Hutton would've been the only player of significance on that team. I can still believe that people will come up with excuses for the drafting under Gillis though.
  10. I still don't understand how people can look at the consistent inconsistency of our play, and people can still ignore the fact that Green has a similar win and lose rate as Willie D. But still think it's all Benning's fault. Honestly, coaching needs an overhaul. There is zero reason for us to keep the same coaching staff with the results we have.
  11. Uninspiring power play, no shots on net, no momentum. And poor defensive coverage. Anything new with the coaching?
  12. Followed by several your most ardent bootlickers who follow you around from your fantasy hockey pool who come in and like your posts. Makes you wonder...I thought we had that discussion last year about this?
  13. So I was watching yesterday's game and @Alain Vigneault was bitching in the GDT, but said he wasn't gonna be watching. LOL. What a character. He missed out on the four goals of the third period.
  14. I understand that, but that also means that TG isn't inherently the best man for the job. I'm not pumping Bylsma's tires. I just want to see fresh approaches to this team.
  15. I agree. But you asked a question along the lines of Where would Vancouver be without Horvat? So your question is equal to a 'what if' question. Without Horvat, Gillis would have an even worse legacy at drafting. One of the biggest problems during this current roster is the lack of players from the Gillis era. These players ultimately would have filled in important roles today. Edler is a relic from the past that precedes Gillis, for example.
  16. Yeah, you can really tell that there is disconnect between the coaches. The transition game that the Canucks use is quite poor. Some of the results may be attributed to lower skilled players, but the clumsy, short passes in the defensive zone seems to satisfy a fetish of doing that, rather than being practical. Passes can fail in all sorts of ways, which has led to the Canucks team being hemmed in by their own faults.
  17. Bylsma, for what it's worth, has accomplished far more than what Green has done. He's an experienced AHL coach, and he's coached some of the best in Pittsburgh. Green pales considerably in experience. That's why I'm not overly excited about keeping Green when there are clearly better options available. That being said, I am a bit worried that Yzerman and Bylsma are parting ways.
  18. Horvat was obtained by trading Schneider, a Nonis pick. I think an equally interesting question would be what would happen if Horvat didn't pan out, considering how poor the drafting/development period was. Hutton and Horvat are practically the only pieces from a time period - one of which was obtained through trading an established player from another regime. So yes, Gillis was really bad at drafting/developing, and this has played a role in our current roster.
  19. I've edited my original post because I felt I was a little too hostile than I should've been. You are right. The team is clearly not close. It actually seems like we took a step back, but the funny thing is, the Tanev/Markstrom deals had little to do with the decline either.
  20. As you said. Speculation. An NHL team (collectively) is not likely to whine about a situation, to the point that they'll purposefully do so bad to get coaches/GMs fired. That is the difference between a professional and an adolescent person.
