  1. I would like to see Freeland take the reins from Trudeau.
  2. NDP recently had people trying to remove the military. In theory, yes, the money can be freed to do other stuff. This will open a new set of problems. Obviously the people coming with these ideas didn't think them through.
  3. We do. CTV is relatively unbiased. Rarely though will you have a channel that is "unbiased". That's not a thing. You can try to be fair though. The bias is a normal part of society. Critical thinking is about balancing all perspectives.
  4. Very interesting read indeed. Yes, Canada can and should capitalize on its film industry. Vancouver is a massive film industry city now. Tons of dub and filming studios are located here because of the tax incentives and climate/location. Seems like CanCon needs to be updated after all. A bill from 1984 is really outdated, regardless of the contents in it.
  5. We thought that way about Coach Green - it's IN HIS NAME - and then...
  6. A lot of lawyers go on to become PMs, but education there doesn't mean they make great PMs. They are usually in the upper class of society.
  7. I fixed it, I saw it before you replied.
  8. NDP has never formed government since Canada's inception. I really wonder why. A bunch of NDPers recently tried to get Jag Singh to abolish the police and military. I suppose you support their efforts too. Edit: I stand corrected. I saw your response on page 2.
  9. As an aside, I remember reading about how the SFSS (the student leadership group at SFU) did a similar type of tactic to block traffic, in attempt to raise awareness about the pipeline. I don't think it was well received. Still, some diehards will say people are selfish for complaining about a 5-10 minute delay. I think it's just a bunch of people who politicize an issue and ram it down an ordinary's person life.
  10. You and I agree on a lot. I just don't think that phone call was the reason for why the deal died. In my opinion, it was just used as an excuse by Gretzky to sign NYR. He can say he felt 'disrespected' all he wants, but he's not new to signing contracts. There's ALWAYS a pressure to sign a contract. Nobody just lets a deal sit because the player can think about joining another team. As Ghost says, Gretzky is probably a liar. Hot take, but his reasoning for signing NYR is really flimsy.
  11. You actually think Gretzky had the intention of signing with Vancouver? I don't think so. Here's why: Either Gretzky verbally agreed that he'd sign in the morning and/or He would sleep on it. Either way, there wasn't a finalized agreement, hence Canuck OWNERSHIP (Not Quinn) wanted Gretzky to sign the contract the night before. If Gretzky ACTUALLY had the intention of signing with the Canucks, he would've done so. Part of the negotiation process is to push people to commit on paper. Verbal contracts don't get legal recourse. As long as nothing is signed, the client has every right to "change his mind". Leaving Gretzky to 'think about it' is risking the chance that he'll change his mind. So Quinn doesn't deserve any flack for this. I would say Gretzky was not actually interested in joining the Canucks. He more likely used the Canucks as leverage against the NYR. New York will panic and throw him a better offer. Why else did he sign with NYR so quickly? The talk about Gretzky being "pressured" and being disrespected for being pressured is plain nonsense. Vancouver was a bad team then. Unless they overpaid more than everyone else, New York was likely a more attractive market. That's just how things work when your team is garbage; you have to pay people to come.
  12. This. This fanbase is so spoiled. I would take AQ over Melnyk any day of the week.
  13. You're being extremely overdramatic. Good grief.
  14. It's clear that both Gaudette and Highmore are gambles for both teams. Highmore is as reliable as you can expect from a bottom 6 player. However his offensive upside is not very high. Gaudette is very much the opposite. It really depends on what you need. Canucks can't afford to keep a defensive liability on the roster. They simply can't outscore their problems.
  15. I know you talked about this, but have you reconsidered why this was the case? So one thing we can agree on is that his defense could use work... So he's put with third and fourth liners and has to prove that his offense is worth the promotion. It may be true thst Gaudette has maybe a little more offense than most of the roster. The problem is that he's costing the top six some time when he's not helping out defensively. I don't like how Green deploys his players. I think he doesn't linematch and doesn't readapt to situations. The theme of his team not shooting enough is showing up more often than not. But again we'll have to see how Gaudette does under a new coach. Quite frankly, I'd like to see how Virtanen does under a new coach. Some players just don't fit in a coach's system. See Laine and Torts. Probably the worst fit ever. But he's had two established NHL coaches. Virt has had WD and Green.
  16. Has he deserved the ice time when he was given chances to score? So we're just gifting spots to players then?
  17. Based on what you said about him being average to good, how the heck is that overrated? Gaudette has been up there before and he hasn't scored. If he was scoring, he wouldn't have been traded. Both Miller and Boeser are prone to making the occasional defensive mistake, so having Gaudette there is not a good fit.
  18. How the heck is he overrated? He is not a first line player. No one should have illusions about that. He's a reliable bottom 6 player on a very cheap/reasonable contract. Overrated is not the right word for Motte. He can only be overrated if he was praised beyond what his actual value is, but that has never been the case. Just want to add that you're right in that you can't make a team of full of Mottes. That's for sure.
  19. Way too early to call. Motte took some time to be who he is now. Regardless, Gaudette's story isn't much of a case for asset management. I think both players are 'gambles', but one is safer (Highmore), with lower upside.
  20. If Highmore can be another Motte, it's a good trade. It seems he needs the change of scenery. Plus he's cheap. No one can really bash him for that, especially with the people complaining that the bottom 6 was too expensive.
  21. I read about the goal. 15 minutes of ice time. No minuses. We really will have to see how this trade will go.
  22. Safe to say, you'll be less of a liability than Gaudette. If he's not scoring, he's not helping your team in other ways. Even his faceoff numbers are not the greatest.
  23. I'm serious about this. Let's just draft all the Russians. You're a guy who can translate stuff that you hear from the 'underground'. Podkolzin is our start... :D
  24. 8 is way too high. We've seen too big of a sample of his coaching to rate him that high.
