You do have a cuddling wife. That's more than 90 percent of the guys here on CDC - and I am understating the number to be kind... -

Chicago fans didn't seem to like Highmore for offense, but they acknowledged his hustle. The Canucks need that. -

The trip/hook on Hughes. Brutal reffing and by that, I mean the refs are rigging this. -

Wait, let me get this straight... so this signing is paying for what he did in the past, with the hope that he could produce more? That sounds like Pearson - as well as 95 percent of the contracts that are signed. -

Yes, but your arguments have been talking about a limited sample of Pearson declining, while conveniently ignoring the other seasons with Pearson. It seems as if you subscribe to the idea of him 'declining' as a trend, which is nonsensical because his record of production is maybe best described as up and down. Furthermore, what do you actually expect for a player being paid 3.25? Iafallo is the best recent comparison, and Pearson has much better stats than him overall. Yet plenty of people ignored aspect of that deal and doubled down on their irrational 'hate' on Pearson's contract. So people will twist the argument to say that because of last season, he is 'declining', but will scramble to defend Iafallo's signing at every turn. I'm pretty sure THAT signing is gonna turn out to be overpaid. In summary, the same people looking to criticize Pearson's contract will make hypocritical positions about another player with inferior stats, under the false impression that Pearson is 'declining' (without the facts/evidence to support this). They are almost hoping Pearson will fail just to prove a 'point'. I find that very distasteful as a fan. -

With hindsight, you can make this statement, sure. What's to say that Eriksson would've scored more with his contract? What about Ryan Johansen? Jeff Skinner? Eriksson wasn't really declining when that contract was signed. Johansen too. -

Tanner Pearson isn't overpaid. For real. 3.25 for a proven 40+ pt player who plays well with Horvat. You seriously think he's overpaid? Look at the other signings for comparison's sake. 3.25 is NOT overpaid for a top six forward, which is exactly what he is. -
[Rumour]. Zadorov in Chicago.. may not stick .

*ahem* I thought Chicago was good at maximizing the potential of their hockey players? Or is that 'myth' going to get repeated by ignoring evidence? -

But that's the thing. It seems NO AMOUNT OF SUCCESS will EVER be enough to sway people who are dead set on firing Benning. People will make hypocritical arguments about what moves he should've made/didn't make. For example, people whining about Benning not signing Toffoli to a long term contract, DESPITE him being pushed to 30+. YET the same people are whining about how Pearson's contract would put him 30+. It's this incoherent nonsense that has to be called out. At some point, there HAS to be a reflection on what was done right or done wrong. Unfortunately, some people are only interested in pushing an agenda, and would rather ignore evidence that doesn't support their perspective. I've been very loud about questioning Green, but it's hard to argue that his coaching wasn't a factor in last year's playoffs. I just hope that he improves on his past experiences and he can be a better coach because of it. Some people on this board (and on social media), for crying out loud, thinks Gillis was a better GM. Think about that for a second. Gillis during his winning years with almost zero drafting/developing of players, part of which is this huge hole that the Canucks have yet to recover from. Anything that Benning did do for drafting would get understated (oh, that was his scouts doing his work, etc). It's hilarious that people would talk about Benning profited from having high first round picks. Hoglander, Lind, Gadjovich, Woo, Jasek.... all of these are strong prospects that were NEVER on a team under Gillis. I wonder why. -

True, but being called dumb is - guess what - part of democracy. It works both ways. -
So you're changing your argument now, from "Benning handed a cup to Calgary", to making excuses about why they are only two points ahead. Markstrom and Tanev don't appear to be solutions for Calgary either. Or another way of looking at this, they weren't as big of a loss to the Canucks as originally thought. So how about addressing the pictures that show how wrong you were, instead of making excuses? You were critical of Benning for the wrong reasons, and now you seem to be insisting your position, despite being called out.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson
Dazzle replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Your reasoning that someone else can do better is potentially flawed. This goes back to the idea that you can 'throw money' at a player that has performed in the past (i.e. Eriksson), in the hopes he can play well. Yet there are no guarantees in that happening. Furthermore, trading for a high scoring winger will be super expensive, even if they were a pending UFA, with no guarantees that he'll sign. My point has always been: if Benning does this, he'll get bashed for it. If he does another thing, the same group of ppl will yell about how Benning is throwing away draft picks. You know that this would be the case. There was never ever going to be a time that a GM would win in the eyes of this fanbase. -

True. They beat Montreal the other day, I think. AND they beat Calgary. Both of these teams had to lose and the Sens did it for us. -

Ottawa has shocked some teams with some wins if you haven't been paying attention. They're not as bad as their standings says they are.
