  1. Maybe the Canucks don't want to sell low on Virtanen. Gaudette's situation seems to be more of a behind the scenes thing, even though they insist it being a business.
  2. Well he can get high more now that he's in Canada. ...I'll take my exit out of this thread now.
  3. Your logic doesn't make much sense. If he thinks he has hope, wouldn't he be buying? Nah, I think the Canucks are sellers too, but COVID nuked their trade values.
  4. You know it's funny. People here are screaming at Benning for not realizing that Pettersson and Hughes' contracts are due, even though he's the same GM who drafted them and oversaw their successes. LOL. Does this move show that Benning is making space? Yes. Do the fans bitch about it? Yes. Gaudette really wasn't going to amount to anything more on the Canucks. That much was perfectly clear.
  5. His wife went on record that she wasn't going to listen to the precautions sent out (by the team). One of them was "Don't go grocery shopping". So she chose not to take precautions because they didn't make sense to her. Hm... sounds like a Karen complaining about why she has to wear masks. I'm not saying she's an anti-masker, but her comments on that podcast make it seem like she downplays COVID. Add to the fact that Gaudette really wasn't that good.
  6. How is this a bad thing again to have flexibility? Oh wait, you're obscenely biased. Never mind. I'm writing to the wrong person.
  7. I'll answer for kanucks25: We have the legendary (but injured) Hunter Shinkaruk. We had (highly inconsistent) Kassian. We had (disgruntled) Kesler (who put two teams that he'd waive on his NTC). We have Chaput and Vey. I mean, Gillis did a BANG UP JOB in preparing for the future, if he wanted the Canucks to suck for the next few years. Oh and he made a risky trade with Schneider (a Nonis pick) to land Horvat. Yes, the trade worked out, but it speaks to the fact that he drafted and developed no one during his entire time there. And we still have deluded people thinking Gillis did a better job. We had no player anywhere remotely like Hoglander as a prospect, let alone Kole Lind, etc. We have a lot of players that are waiting in the wings that show a lot of promise (and none of those players are 1st rounders). Gillis was an abject failure.
  8. Given how bad Chicago is, the difference between us and Chicago is very small. Plus we have a player we can slot in right away if need be.
  9. People are sleeping on Matthew Highmore. He's basically Motte with a Burrows like ascent to the NHL.
  10. We also don't know if Gaudette's wife/Gaudette wanted to get out of the drama from the podcast thing. She royally screwed up by talking about COVID precautions like that.
  11. not restrictions. Precautions. But in this age, you should be mindful of precautions anyway, rather than openly dismiss them.
  12. His wife said some stuff about covid precautions and choosing not to follow one of them. It was really bad.
  13. I was pretty sure that this would happen at some point. Micaela said some not so good stuff about covid precautions on a podcast. This was definitely something in the making.
  14. I don't know what's going on between Baer and Green. I am speculating that maybe Green and/or management is trying to insulate Baer (similar to how they did it with Malhotra). Baer hasn't said anything publicly, but we probably can guess that he's frustrated with how things have played out.
  15. Yes, you are right. One cannot say definitively that someone is declining ahead of time. That is only a judgement made in hindsight. Pearson and Benning both believe that this year is an off year. Pearson is signing for less than his original contract. I think that shows they have a good relationship and they understand what is going on. Pearson obviously wants to stay. So does Benning. Therefore 3.25 is a fair deal for both sides. If Pearson has a career year next year, will they say he just got 'lucky'? Seems like posters have a confirmation bias.
  16. They have to earn their spot, not be gifted spots. That being said, you have to have a coach willing to play young players too. It's a delicate balance.
  17. It's worth noting that Pearson is good friends with Horvat. People seem to think this is NHL 2021. There are real human connections. It's no surprise that the dissonant noise about Benning's performance doesn't take into account these factors, which really reflects how little experience they have dealing with people. 3.25 isn't even a bad number, but people are just finding things to nitpick about. If Yzerman signed this contract, you can bet people will think this is a smart signing.
  18. We have a lot of whiners. Ridiculous how a pretty average 3 x 3.25 signing has some people wanting to cheer for Seattle. Disgusting. The cap circumvention is being unchecked for certain teams, while we got dinged hard for Luongo's cap.
  19. Addiction is a serious problem for all. I do, however, have issues about the double standards that society has for celebrities using drugs and overdosing, versus the regular people that do the same thing. No amount of money can heal your pain. Eventually that pain will eat you up.
  20. Exactly. Paying for someone in UFA is a risk, even with a proven past like Eriksson had. People crap on the price, but that was the market. Yes, Benning is getting crapped on for a good signing. 3.25 is not overpaying, and yet people whine about Roussel and Sutter being overpaid. Our fanbase is so dumb sometimes. Reddit is a cesspool of whiners.
  21. Overreaction much?! Lmfaooo. Threatening to leave the fanbase and cheering a rival? My god. If there's any proof that we have a garbage fanbase, this is the example. A bunch of spoiled, self entitled fans.
  22. Looking at the contract of 2011, Doughty was an RFA. So was Nylander, thus "holding out" only works for these types of players, not UFAs. Pearson could've just walked, leaving a bad taste in his mouth. And where is Gillis now? He hasn't been favourably received for a while. I'm sure he's a good guy, but his style of management hasn't been great. Recently, he tried to apply for the Pittsburgh GM job apparently. He had a package leaked out and it was distributed openly on the internet. News sources didn't even mention Pittsburgh considering Gillis. I just think it's hypocritical for the fanbase to call for a long term signing of Toffoli (who already IS 30+), while complaining about the Sutter signing too long (he was 26 if I recall at the time) and saying that Pearson's contract puts him over 30+. Is it age discrimination or is the fanbase just picking and choosing which players to sign long term? Because there isn't any consistency to the arguments.
  23. And what happens if Podkolzin needs more time, do we just rush him in the lineup? Pearson is also well-liked by Horvat. Re-signing him is a no-brainer. 3.25 is really not that bad. If they need to move salary, they have a number of ways to do it - and players like Sutter are coming off the books possibly.
