  1. This trade is absolutely worth it. Eric Staal had a pretty decent season last year. This year, he's playing on Buffalo, so the numbers are going to be very poor. Staal's DEFINITELY got some good NHL years left.
  2. https://www.nhl.com/senators/video/wolanins-long-range-goal/t-277437424/c-64823403 I don't understand at all why none of Canuck players can do this - GET TO THE FRONT OF THE NET.
  3. Both players need a fresh start. That was the point.
  4. Just seems like ppl complain about our roster not being good enough, but blame the GM without a plan to make it better.
  5. Finally, it seems we can agree on something in a consecutive manner. This has been a long term thing for sure. Green and WD are just bad hires in hindsight, but probably Green, even though he's pushed into the playoffs.
  6. No, we deserved to lose both these games. We played like crap. The second game was better, but not good enough. There wasn't a lot of urgency at times, hence the lack of penalties drawn. Even with the PP, we just overpass.
  7. If the core is "fine" to you, does that mean Benning deserves credit for that? Oh wait. This is another Jim Benning bashing post. My biggest beef with Benning is having these two coaches run behind the bench for as long as they have. I agree with you actually that the team is better than what the record shows. Why the EFF is Roussel in the lineup? And Hughes just has those pizza deliveries this game. What's going on?
  8. Stats alone don't tell you the story. Our shot attempts were mostly kept to the outside. There were some rebound chances, but nothing too dangerous. Yes, there were a few posts, so that's unlucky. Meanwhile, look at the goals that Demko let in. Can you honestly tell me that he had a chance with those, especially the ones with the rebounds? I don't understand the love-in with Green. It's always the same issues with his rosters. We lost two games we absolutely had to win, and they were both lacked hope. The first game, sure, it was 1-0, but we were BADLY outshot. Same with his other games. It's Green/Baumer.
  9. He's out of his mind. Demko played outstanding. Winnipeg simply outplayed Vancouver. The shots were more equal than last game, but surely the chances Winnipeg had were better than ours. Our defence just wasn't up to snuff.
  10. I hate to say it, but "that's a good team over there" is lame af. Every team, minus Buffalo, in NHL is good. Even the lowly Ottawa Senators is good.
  11. Call a &^@#ing timeout Green. Sorry I'm on my phone and it accidentally quoted you.
  12. This is actually some brilliant GMing. They get to unload a player and get a pick. The pick is only a 7th rounder and it's for 2023. They're unloading a former 2nd rounder.
  13. Another self inflicted injury. Last game, we sustained pressure, but we ended up giving up the puck, allowing Winnipeg to change. Here, we have sustained pressure, and a player jumps in for no reason at all.
  14. The same theme every season... A lot of self inflicted stuff, namely overpassing.
  15. Yes, I should say that he is a center* (* = as listed by many websites). He CAN take faceoffs, but he's not superior at it compared to other players. What struck me is how good Virtanen is with faceoffs (albeit on a VERY limited sample). You're right that he's been used as a winger, in other words. The Canucks have to be sellers - and they should not have put players like Pearson at risk. I feel like this one is on Green. Rather than playing younger players and developing them, he definitely loaded up a team full of vets, some of whom we could have used as trade bait for the trade deadline. I know part of what I'm saying is hindsight reliant because I, for one, would LOVE to see the Canucks enter the playoffs. That being said, keeping Juolevi out of the lineup is wasting his development time. I may be overselling this idea, but I feel like Virtanen has been misused/mishandled from the very beginning. This is not to excuse him for his own responsibility, but we have two coaches that really haven't done much in the grand scheme of things, outside of two playoff runs (one each for WD/TG). I just don't see any justification for keeping Green and his assistants. If Benning wants to extend Green, without doing due diligence on what's available, he should go as well.
  16. I agree with your general sentiment. It's difficult to label someone because people travel all over the place, and thus, have different identities. Brett Hull, for example, represented the US, even though he's born in Canada. Alex Galchenyuk represents the US, even though he's, for all intents and purposes, "Russian". Furthermore, Komarov was born in Estonia. Some sites list it as "USSR", which doesn't exist anymore. So he's Estonian then, if you were to take it solely from a national perspective, who can speak Russian, among several other languages. It's definitely problematic to label someone as "Russian" just because he's from USSR, or that he speaks that language.
  17. I think this firing does send a message - don't say stupid $&!# that gets the NHL negative press. I doubt anything will change, except scare the refs not to say anything. The ref's mandate is not to call too many penalties that would affect the entertainment of the game, but we've seen a disproportionate amount of penalties going against a team too. I don't know why interference wasn't called during the OT of the Montreal vs Vancouver game. I still don't get it.
  18. Not a chance Ekblad would only be worth our first (which is not likely to be a top 3 pick), Podkolzin (our best prospect), and Pearson who isn't really that great. Ekblad can get better offers than that.
  19. He is still clearly deadweight on their roster. 1st doesn't matter if he's not really doing much. This is something you haven't addressed. Roussel has more points (albeit marginally) while playing almost the exact minutes as Komarov. I agree that Roussel might not be the best option, but I highly doubt a team will send a cheaper player in exchange for a 3M player (this applies to Roussel too). Hence, this trade may possibly make sense. The only other problem is the quarantine. The Canucks won't get him for two weeks.
  20. That's terrible. We all know that reffing has been bad, but to see calls going against a team for the sake of 'game management' speaks to the poison from within. These refs are being told to do this, so there's "consistency", but not so much that it might hinder the entertainment of the game.
  21. Contrary to what people say, we are still very much in the mix.
  22. Well, Komarov doesn't really have a spot on NYI's roster, obviously. He's also 34 years old at 3M. The cap hit wouldn't be very attractive to a team ordinarily. On the other hand, Roussel is 2-3 years younger, making the same amount. The lengths of their contracts are also identical, thus Roussel might be more serviceable. It could be a trade that works out for both teams. Canucks need a centre who can take draws and kill penalties. NYI could use a physical winger who can kill the PK for their bottom 6. They're both really similar players, since they're both agitators. Both are pretty good skaters too. Meanwhile, the Canucks don't really have to care about the age of Komarov. If he's a bust, you can buy him out. It's a low risk trade for both teams.
  23. It does blow my mind how repeating the same thing for the whole period would change anything. My gf who doesn't watch hockey caught a bit of hockey a couple of days ago, and the first thing she says is "It seems to me they're disorganized". LOL. She was talking about how there's barely any structure. If someone who doesn't watch hockey isn't impressed with how the team plays, I think it says something.
