Get help, Provost. I think you've made it abundantly clear to the people here just how "rational" you are. Yup, anyone who disagrees with you is "irrational". What you need is an echo chamber. And then resorting to childish personal jabs. Truly shameful. lol.
-
I honestly pity you lol. You spend so much time on the forums arguing with a bunch of nobodies. I do know what the term cherry pick is. But once again, you don't address a single point in my post, and proceed to putting in a music video, in lieu of a dictionary word. What's the point in a further discussion with you? The sandbag emote is perfect for a post like yours. Obviously you aren't rational. You just use the word 'rational' to sound like you are 'smart', much like you're pulling out the dictionary. You should be embarrassed.

You had so much drivel in the other post so-called "cherrypicking" post, I've decided to point out ONE THING that will show that you have no clue what you're talking about. Is this cherrypicking? I really could go through a lot of your posts, but I don't really have the time. This is EXACTLY where the fundamental difference is; that in one form or another, we are STILL paying the price for GIllis' mistakes. Let's see what Gillis had prior to being fired. This article sums it up rather well for this discussion. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/canucks-fire-general-manager-mike-gillis-1.2602929 How many players listed in that article are still with the Canucks? Better still, how many of those players are still in the NHL? LOL. If a team is poorly stocked with players, it could very well take 10 years to recover. This, in NO WAY, says that Benning doesn't deserve blame. Yet for you to say "in no world of rational opinion..", you have put yourself in a position where you can be flat out wrong. Gillis had left the Canucks with next to ZERO assets: We have a declining Sedin twins with no replacement; Kesler who basically nuked whatever value he had; and a bunch of supplementary pieces that clearly wasn't worth much to the team. There was a lot about Hamhuis being traded and getting some value from him, yet there was talk that Hamhuis didn't waive his NTC, essentially nuking his trade value. https://thecanuckway.com/2016/02/28/vancouver-canucks-asked-dan-hamhuis-to-waive-ntc/ So, in other words, whatever Benning could do to start fresh, he couldn't extract full value. LOL the hilarious part are the NTCs - all of them were given by Gillis. Is this really too hard for you to understand? That's why there's no point in writing a huge post telling you how wrong you are, when a simple one like this can do the same. In summary: we are still paying for Gillis' mistakes. This can be RATIONALLY figured out.

Yeah, like all the other people who disagree with you. People like Squamfan and Alain Vigneault are posters that for whatever reason have such a massive hard on to criticize Benning for every little aspect. So when you give them evidence that shows that they have weak arguments to support their positions, they go and cry about it. Or in Squam's case, he doesn't respond at all. Funny how that works huh? When you disagree with someone, they refuse to believe you, or the evidence you presented. Instead, they just rehash what they originally said.

I think he was unlucky to play on a bad team. Those look like really good underlying stats. -

To your point that was heavily reliant on hindsight about picking duds. Guess what? Every GM selects at least one, especially in the first round. Look at how decent this draft was... https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2010e.html ZOMG SHOULD"VE DRAFTED KUZNETSOFFFF!!!! I remember when people were all over picking Tinordi. That year, we lost out on a late first round pick - that ended up being a Quinton Howden for FLA, who didn't turn out to be NHL calibre. You know who got for that? Keith Ballard. You claim that people cherry pick parts of your posts, and then you cherry pick picks like the Virtanen/Juolevi as some kind of "proof" that Benning was less competent than other GMs. Lots of teams passed up players like Boeser and to a much lesser extent Hughes. Lots of teams miss "better" picks. Hell Hoglander outperforms most picks in his draft class as a 2nd rounder, including most of the first round picks. That is the reality of drafting. But Benning has selected promising players in all rounds, including the Podkolzin and Arvid Costmar, both of whom are doing well as young players. Then you look at the AHL depth, the players are knocking on the door. That is what you call depth. Something we never had under any other GM, but especially Gillis. I didn't say that Benning was the best GM in the league. The rating was in comparison to all the other GMs that Vancouver had. Your ability to use reason has always been suspect, Proveau.

Gaudette's pretty successful, yes? The thing is, Tampa Bay has always been good with scouting. Vancouver on the other hand, until Benning, was extremely inconsistent. Furthermore, some teams are just luckier. Hansen was a great pick in hindsight, but you cannot gauge super late picks as the sole basis of drafting success. Benning has had a player so far in the draft show up in the NHL. That in itself is a success of some kind. A-. If you actually look back, Gillis did horrible. I would go as far as to say we are still in this mess of losing partially because of Gillis.

Montreal had ENOUGH & Fires Coach - Why Can't We ?
Dazzle replied to RU SERIOUS's topic in Canucks Talk
Okay. So this system that coach Green has implemented is the same as last year. The defensive holes were always there, but Tanev and Markstrom hid them significantly. Stetcher was a role player. Nothing more, nothing less. This as much of a fault as it is with Benning, Green and the players. But Green does deserve the criticism for not adapting. Question, why is Schmidt so bad after being so good in LV on the top pairing? Baumer. Who manages minutes and benches/scratches people after scoring? Ala Virtanen, Juolevi? Green. Look at the amount of minutes he gives Macewen. Holy crap. -

But the Canucks earned the right to be in the playoffs, regardless of COVID changing the playoff eligibility. This is where Green did good. Or got lucky, dunno. -
Drafting is way higher than a B. It's likely the only reason why Benning still isn't fired for the failures. That being said, this has always been a long term thing in the making. The curse of having Gillis as your GM. And the hilarity of people wanting him back.

Yes, this is not to say that Benning didn't make mistakes, but all I was saying was that this has always been a long term thing. When you don't have role players in the system, you tend to pay to attract players. And yes, all these teams you've mentioned above are bottom feeders now for a reason. It's not an accident. However, some teams like Ottawa and Buffalo are just simply mismanaged, in spite of not winning. -

The problem has been caused by Gillis and his tendency to trade picks. Yes, the Canucks were in a win mode. Yet with the draft picks that we did have, we didn't really nail any good ones. The result is that we have a stale team because none of the up and coming players would replace the old, star players like the Sedins. The most successful years arguably came under Gillis, who inherited a core mostly built by his predecessors. And the mess he left behind was passed onto Benning. Folks, we're still paying for Gillis' mistakes. Then Benning made mistakes himself. -
So this is a reminder that 1st and 2nd round picks don't always make it. And it sucks if you have a GM that doesn't develop any players in the 1st or 2nd round, ala GIllis. Regardless of what excuses that you make for him (i.e. W3 W3RE ON W1N MODE!), a team just doesn't do well in the long term without drafting and developing. For all the faults that Benning has made, at the very minimum, he has put the Canucks in a good position, future wise. Meanwhile in OTT... imagine them being so bad that they draft high, but they not produce as many exciting pieces as we have. Sure they do have a blue chip prospect or two, but overall, their depth is still very much in progress, DESPITE losing as much as they have.

Yeah, honestly. This guy has been continually making mistake after mistake. He's been in several car accidents, if I remember correctly before this, one of which involved him while he was under the influence (of drugs). This is beyond stupid decision making. He needs a serious wake up call because whatever life he's living is a mistake.

Yeah, unfortunately. Those who stick with a party are prone to downplay the inadequacies and/or contradictions of the party. Trudeau won very handily against Harper, and while he has done some good things, he has had several very public missteps. Canada probably mishandled the Meng case too in hindsight, even though she's probably associated with some corrupt businessmen/transactions. She's not innocent, that's for sure. And we can see from how China kidnapped two Canadian people with false charges with no due process, they were dirty and resorted to dirty tactics to maintain their cover. I think Trudeau's in a position that nobody wants to be in. He has to appease China for Michael, but at the same time, calling China out for genocides is not only hypocritical, but counterproductive to retrieving those two Michaels.

Artemi Panarin accused of assault, taking leave of absence
Dazzle replied to Odd.'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I think his opinion is beyond stupid. @Wayne Glensky If you hate it under Trudeau so much, go live somewhere else. Of course, this is in no way saying that your different opinion isn't welcome here. My true point I am trying to make is: you have no idea how good you have it here if you think Trudeau is anywhere near Putin. Go check out the Latin American countries like Honduras or Mexico, then we talk.
