Francesco Aquilini says "I have no plans to make changes."
Dazzle replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Canucks Talk
Kanucks25 has made it abundantly clear that he will shift his argument multiple times in order to 'fit in' what he wants to believe. Poor @kanucks25 - I pity you for not being able to see things for what they are, rather than what you want them to see. I always enjoy reading his posts when I want to see what a typical CDC user looks like. -

It seems to me that you'll give the scouts all the credit for the picks, while giving Benning nothing. This is why I've identified that you have a clear bias. If you cared about having a rational discussion, you'd see that: Demko was picked in the 2nd round - a Benning pick, FYI. He's now a 1A and a potential starter for this team. Drafted AND developed under Benning. He's already proven his drafting on this player alone. But oh wait, you'll say that the scouts did his job, right? Gaudette. Hoglander Juolevi Other notables: Lockwood, Lind, Woo, etc etc. People gave Benning crap for picking Pettersson. Much like people gave him crap for picking Juolevi. I'm still waiting to hear what you have to say about drafting and player development because I clearly mentioned they were two inseparable processes. -

We can see an example of Gillis using Grabner - and paying a 1st rounder on top of this to get Keith Ballard. Not a complete equivalent, but from a position of 'strength' and squandering it. Goldobin was still a 1st rounder that undoubtedly had a lot of skill. It didn't work out. Guess what? Lots of 1st rounders don't pan out. Garrison played on a STACKED Canucks team. LOL. Did you know your boy Gillis had to ask him to waive his NTC? Oh btw, Gillis handed out a BUNCH of NTCs that put him in a similar type of situation as Benning. Too much money tied in to players that were essentially untradable. You're right - GIllis wasn't handcuffed by the Grabner trade, but still paid a 1st rounder to get Ballard. And... Ballard got bought out. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/ballard-buyout-process-begins It's clear that you don't care about ANY of the evidence that goes against your perspective. -

This is a great topic - what are anyone's thoughts about the Schlieffen Plan? I personally think it was a great plan. Really exposed how weak France was in all the wars. -

To be fair, NJ sucks. It's hard to elevate your game with such unexciting pieces. -
I know this comment was directed at me, but I think you project too much of your emotions on people. The fact that no one took Devin Shore shouldn't have been surprising. Heck, the majority of people on waivers aren't claimed. No one's desperate to grab players, even if they are 'cheap'. And, maybe you should be taking notes here - maybe you shouldn't be so desperate to get attention, like that other thread you made about the Canucks being pretty much eliminated, despite having 30+ games left. Maybe one of your more poorly thought out contributions here. I'm also not 'desperate' to hunt your posts down, but when I see them as I browse, I can't help but think I disagree with how you see things more than not.

Comes to show you that not everything is about number comparisons.

[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
Dazzle replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree. Gaudette is a nice dude, but he hasn't put it all together as a center. He loses a lot on draws, hasn't scored all that often, and this season, his game has plateaued. Really rooting for him though. -

He doesn't have reading comprehension unfortunately. One of the posters that only post, but don't bother to think. -

Never said they were the same. You should re-read everything again. Note how I said they were processes, meaning more than one process. -

Your post wouldn't show up, so I copied and pasted directly from it. Tanev Hamhuis Bieksa Kesler Burrows Hansen Markstrom Higgins Garrison 6th overall pick Sedins Horvat Edler ---------------------- So here's the thing. Benning "missed out" on trading a few of these players, but at the same time, some of them weren't worth very much, with exceptions to Tanev/Hamhuis. Kesler handcuffed the team/Benning - so your point is moot right from the get-go. Hansen was worth Goldobin - would you say that Benning got full value for Hansen? I would say so. If he let Hansen go, you'd include him on your list anyway. Burrows - Dahlin - wasn't Benning's fault that Dahlin was a drama queen. Hoglander has since surpassed him on the skill level. Garrison was an atrociously bad FA signing for GIllis. LOL. It's on the same lines of Eriksson. And yeah, 6th overall pick. And Horvat, which was a trade from Cory Schneider. Not much to work with. -

Drafting and prospect development are basically inseparable processes. People were right. You aren't very bright. -
I agree - I am noticing more of a response from him. He is improving, but I think one of the questions that comes up is: how long will he keep this up?

What exactly did he inherit? -
Really @Provost? The Canucks lost a bunch of games recently - six - and we are "only" 9 points away from 1st seed Toronto and 3 points away from 2nd seed Montreal. At the same time, earlier in the season, Edmonton and Calgary weren't doing much better than the Canucks. In fact, Edmonton started to click only recently. They are "only" 3 points ahead - same as Montreal. For all the praise that Toronto and Montreal gets, this North division is hardly out of reach. There's still 40 something games left - a lot of hockey to be played. I think the team is starting to turn it around now. Losing the six games early on might be a blessing in disguise. As our schedule eases up, the Canucks may very well soar from this point forward. This thread is beyond asinine.

Actually, having read your discussion, you have been trying to discredit the idea that Benning inherited this "wasteland" of the team. What I've simply pointed out was that you didn't include a discussion of the prospect pool. What I'm state is that it is dishonest to talk about a team that was successfully run, WITHOUT talking about the young guns that would come in to replace those elite players. Gillis (or perhaps FA) mortgaged the future for those annual playoff runs. To restate what I said earlier, under Gillis, player development was very poor, even with the draft picks he did have. As a result, we have an enthusiastic owner who wants to make the playoffs, and a GM who tried to "retool" on the fly. It's not a random rant. Benning DID inherit a wasteland. We are still paying the price of having next to no prospects and a "stale" team that hasn't recovered since the 2011 run. Fortunately, we have a bright future. -

Dazzle replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Canucks Talk
Actually, it's a FACT that the prospect cupboard was bare. That is undeniably on Gillis (and possibly FA). Just because you have current players that caused the team to score 100+ points doesn't mean the future will be. In fact, the fact that Virtanen was the highest ceiling prospect we had in a long time (along with Shinkaruk) says a lot about how poor our propsect development has been. Benning's done some bad things, but prospect development is not one of them. It's not surprising you're too blind to see the difference through your irrational hate on Benning. -
JT said that Jake reminds him a lot about himself when he was younger. I think what you mentioned is a big part of that.
-
I think Virtanen needs to be better with his decision making. But I think I see him actually trying.
-
And then people cried about throwing money at Toffoli. It worked out for him and Montreal, but it easily could've gone bad. And then we'll have those people whine about why Benning spent money on free agency.

We can be optimistic about how good he is, can we not? By all accounts, his game is similar to Motte's, except on a higher level.
