  1. I was waiting for you to say Chris Gear. Are you freaking kidding me? He's been newly promoted an AGM experience, so he has less experience than most other GMs OR AGMs. And you want this guy to be GM? LOL. No, the onus is on the thread maker to come up with better solutions than Chris freaking Gear. This thread reeks laziness.
  2. You first, baby. Team obviously hasn't even been finished constructing yet and we have babies like you whining.
  3. If you hate the Canucks so much, just go cheer for some other team. We have yet to pick a 1st overall, and with the way things have gone, we aren't likely going to drop that deep anymore. But you don't care. You're just rehashing WOE IS CANUCKS stuff.
  4. Bring back neg reps please. Some threads aren't trying to promote a discussion but to rehash old ideas. Not productive.

  5. I got some ideas. Bottomfeed for Raty. Power Down to Power Up Drive a Chrysler to save up for a Lambos Cool Hand Luke
  6. I'm curious as to why you pretend to have an unbiased discussion by saying stuff like "Hindsight is 20/20 and things don't always go to plan..." What you're saying here has already been discussed to death in the many threads inside the trade section ALONE. Did this thread REALLY need to be made? You ask this question - what's stopping us from wanting to do better? Why is the onus on the readers to come up with the examples in YOUR thread? Why didn't you come up with a person you had in mind for GM? A thread that is purely anti-Benning with nothing else to add other than "the team is in a bad situation because of bad contracts". I'm calling it for what it is. Benning has made mistakes, like any GM, and there's been so shortage of discussion of it that this thread is really redundant. You are adding nothing new here at all.
  7. I think this chart generally tells us which teams were "desperate" to improve the team. This 'desperation', I think, usually ends up biting teams in the rear because they will get really bad offers in the hopes that they'll be desperate enough to do them. This is on top of the bad rep of using offer sheets. Look at the various teams on this list. Carolina Hurricanes - they were bad for a very long time until 2004 - Stanley Cup. That's 6 more years of waiting. Phildelphia Flyers 2006 - Record was 22-48 Edmonton Oilers - TWO offer sheets in the same year. Dustin Penner contract ended up being really bad for Edmonton, and they gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 2008. DOUBLE whammy. They didn't get better in the present, nor did they get better for the next... Oh I don't know, ten more years? San Jose Sharks 2010. They were a pretty good team at this time. The only exception to this. Flyers again 2012 - Record was 23-22. Marginal team. Calgary Flames 2013 - Record was 35-40-7 Montreal Canadiens 2019 - another non-playoff team. Conclusion: Good teams don't need to poach players from other teams. If you so badly needed ONE player, but you're willing to mortgage your future for it, it probably wasn't that good/close to begin with.
  8. This is hilarious considering most fans didn't think we were a playoff team to begin with. Now we have 'experts' like yourself telling us how the team will do this year and the next one?
  9. Did you plan on reading any of the posts in the thread? Do you have anything worth contributing?
  10. Honestly, can't blame Benning for this one. Pearson/Toffoli are good buddies, but Pearson is PROBABLY not going to be extended. What's the point of keeping a 30+ year old Toffoli? All of y'all hate 30+ year old players, and then you whine about not signing one. Toffoli is a nice piece, but if we want someone like him, there's always guys like that available to trade later. We do have some really nice offensive prospects coming up. Three things to consider: 1) Flat salary cap 2) Expansion draft 3) Offer sheet risks The Canucks are actually going to be one of the most well protected teams against all three factors. This isn't a spin. This is reality.
  11. You guys do know we have a flat salary cap, an expansion draft, and the risk of the offer sheet to worry about right? The same group of people like Squamfan coming out to offer their 'unique' insights, as usual.
  12. Swedish player who formerly played with Dallas. A ~30 pt player so far in his career. Isn't great at faceoffs, so he isn't used that often. Plays 14 minutes or so. IMO, for what Sutter brings, I think Sutter's contract isn't really that bad. We only feel that it's a high cap hit because of the flat cap, but Sutter does more than this dude.
  13. Many Detroit fans know him to be a major defensive liability, and apparently he doesn't correct them. That being said, I also read that Bowey is a nice guy. Perhaps this is insignificant; he caused a stir in IG a while ago for uploading him actually blowing smoke on camera, suggesting that he had off-ice issues. That photo was taken down. Seemed to be a lapse of judgement on several levels.
  14. Pietrangelo is going to try to get his revenge against us next playoffs!
  15. There's always pressure in a big hockey market, particularly one that belongs to an original 6 team. It seems some Boston fans were pretty happy to let Krug walk for the amount he signed for, and our fanbase is lambasting Benning for doing the same thing. It's a tale of two cities. Or a tale of two fanbases.
  16. I did notice the name, and this guy's ascent from ECHL to AHL. Very similar circumstances, except he's a D.
  17. He's obviously not done. Just the amount of 'panic' is hilarious. Do people just expect the teams to finish their roster after two days of free agency?
  18. What the hell? A swap of AHL players = costing their cup? Do you even know either of these players?
  19. As people have said, the slant against Benning has been hypocritical. If he spends money, "omg, he's overpaying FAs, typical DIMJIM". If he doesn't spend money to re-sign certain players or paying for FAs, "OMG, WHY IS JIM DOING NOTHING? HE WRECKED THE TEAM!" Yes, of course we are allowed a discussion of ideas, which may be in conflict of others. If we are going to be completely neutral, which I am attempting to do here, I think Jim Benning deserves credit for trying something different. Whether this goes well or not, no one really knows.
  20. If we could have signed someone for 2 million, we could have. We have space to do this. Furthermore, we can go above the cap if we choose to do so. The very criticism that you are making about Benning overspending on FA is now taking the form of Benning not spending money on FAs, even if it meant that Benning 'learned' about overspending from last time. The discussion taking place is such a joke lol.
  21. So this whole thing is just a repetition of what was already said - that Benning overpaid for FAs a few years ago, and we're still talking about it. Look at this situation here. Benning is being patient now about signing FAs, especially signing people for longer term, and is still being criticized for not signing FAs. That's some anti-Benning stuff for you here.
  22. "Man, you are so wrong here, and Friedman was spot on." This was what I wrote but you wiped it out in the post, which may have been accidental or intentional. I don't know. You were wrong there. You basically described Friedman's piece as being over the top, and that the Canucks weren't really going to make the changes he described. Your comment really didn't age well from one month ago, and I'm not sure why you are doubling down on your original comment. I'm not saying I would have predicted this overhaul too. I give credit to Benning for having some cahones to make changes. As I said, Friedman's piece has substance, as he talked about the difference of how Vegas attacked us vs. how Dallas approached it.
  23. Has name recognition but Detroit fans have said he is a major turnover machine. Nice guy though.
