  1. He is a warrior but struggles in his zone with regards to clearing pucks out. He's also a smallish defenceman.
  2. I don't believe it. He is not the worst player in the league at all. He has had his best season this year. You don't incrementally improve like he has by drinking his face off. Doesn't matter how talented you are. Your friend has a $&!#ty source.
  3. Both those guys are veteran defensemen. What's your take on these two?
  4. There's still lots of good defenseman available. Vatanen is a good one, for example, but there are others like Mirco Mueller too.
  5. You think ppl will offer sheet Virtanen and he'll sign it for 1.9 or below? Also for all the hate Virtanen has gotten throughout his career, this is by far the most unfair. 25 other players elected salary arbitration including Olofsson, who was a Calder competitor, and Josh Ho-Sang, who has been an AHL contributor but nothing else. Come on guys.
  6. I love how no one's talking about Ho-Sang asking for salary arbitration. Holy crap is he a cancer.
  7. Nichushkin got re-signed for 2.5. IMO, a better comparison.
  8. Fleury sucks man. Yes, I'm talking about that Carolina player. Fans have given up on him being any good, but are just happy they have a warm body.
  9. Nichushkin is essentially Virtanen. Both have nearly identical production numbers. Both were high 1st round draft picks. Both have had questions about work ethic/attitude/being inconsistent I can see Virtanen getting a similar amount, and the difference is that Benning will get slagged by people here for 'overpaying' Virtanen.
  10. Actually, the situation is more complicated than that. Her girlfriend is an admitted alcoholic (she's in AA right now). She was also caught driving under the influence a while ago also. Austin Watson served the suspension, and was ordered to go through NHL's program. The girlfriend might have taken all responsibility, but Watson acted in a way that the NHL was not happy that his suspension was reduced.
  11. Benning supporters don't necessarily support everything he does. But the ones who think Benning has done no good, are the irrational ones.

Nothing is so black-and-white. The world is all about different shades of gray.

Don't agree with every move but the franchise is in a much better place than when he took over.  Most of CDC wanted him fired for taking Petey.

Gudbranson for Pearson was solid, 1st for JT Miller (fire benning was chanted) and man that turned out.  Holtby I think will be another shrewd maneuver.  His drafting has been pretty damn amazing compared to what we had prior (yes I know its not just him).  He stuck us with a bloated bottom 6, but that was the price to get people in the door of a team that looked horrible when signed, and to be fair, that bottom 6 (cap aside) looked solid in the play-ins until we met Vegas.  I believe Benning is doing a good job, not perfect, but not horrid, compared to Buffalo or Edmonton, I'm pretty happy.

  12. I would NOT be surprised at all if they trade for Eriksson Ek.
  13. Maybe he doesn't like playing at home, like many people.
  14. Also, Mirco Mueller is available!

  15. Have a look at Slater Koekkoek (D)? Puck moving defenceman from Chicago.

  16. I think Holtby was a sensible signing, and it was done at the right price, compared to this signing.
  17. Pretty sure all of the above players are on two way contracts, so they'll be paid AHL salaries if they go down.
  18. We should be fine with the cap space. The only thing is that we'll be relying more on the young, unproven players to save our cash. This could be a good step for these players that eventually will have to play some NHL games at some point.
