I think we as a country have a lot of this backwards. Canada's supposed to be this "leader" on the global scale, but why us? Other countries ahead of us should do it. We are only pretenders. Yet we make these initiatives in the hopes that other countries follow our example. (But they don't) All of these moves that we're doing to help the environment (a good thing) is for naught when the biggest polluters are the US and China. Neither of them are going to do $&!#.

Sens, Sharks Karlsson Deal..Who Won?
Dazzle replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I called this months ago, just saying. Anyway, Karlsson won the deal. He got a 11.5 million contract for 8 years, living in an amazing hockey market that isn't too media crazy, while getting away from OTT. -
Gaudette has only one season under his belt - and only a small sample of AHL time. ALL players need to do their time in the league and should not be "gifted" minutes. That is not to imply that Gaudette is a primadonna or some toxic influence in the locker room. He needs to be sheltered/insulated by the rigors of the NHL by EXPERIENCED centers, as to not be overwhelmed. Gaudette is an amazing pick and will, in my opinion, not be hindered by Sutter/Beagle. Both aforementioned players got injured last season and we saw how Gaudette did in their place. From there, we could see that he is not ready ready, but he has shown good flashes of being close. Best part about Gaudette is his work ethic. I don't doubt he'll be a key piece for the team down the road. Gaudette has some sick playmaking skills.

SJ is a well-run organization that continually generates a ton of NHL players. Therefore, they were in a position of strength to trade all the players that they did in order to land Karlsson. Benning/Canucks never had such a luxury. I'm not saying Wilson doesn't deserve credit but context is needed in order to assess Wilson's ability as a GM. Also, I called this months ago. I think Karlsson would have been foolish to sign with another team that is serious about hockey, yet live in such a nice warm city where you can escape the media in literally minutes. Getting this signing done was DEFINITELY made easier by the type of person Karlsson is. He has only played for OTT previously to SJ.

Prior to his injury, his AHL numbers although brief are very good. His injury problems have definitely prevented him thus far from performing at what he's been expected to do. We'll have to wait and see what he does. I really do think he'll surprise people in a good way. Salo who has been open and honest about his play has praised Juolevi for his improvements - and the fact that Juolevi played as a top guy and did a good job.
-
First of all, it's as easy as you claim it is. 1) Look at Karlsson for SJS. This is a top-end talent that took many pieces to get him. We never did have any of these pieces. 2) We have signed several intriguing players, namely Del Zotto and we even traded for Gudbranson (who Luongo was very upset about losing). Yet neither of them performed. Heck, we even saw Eriksson come to Vancouver after coming off 30+ goal seasons and falter. Some players DO NOT play well under certain teams. This is not NHL 2019 where you can just throw money at players and think there won't be any consequences. What if a player doesn't perform and you're stuck with his contract like Eriksson?
-
Yes we do. Juolevi is a highly intelligent, puck moving defenseman that has been relied upon by his previous teams to win. He has won at every previous level, including winning Gold for Finland. This guy is a winner. We DO NOT have anyone like Juolevi in the system. Sorry, Stecher and Hutton don't hold a candle to this guy's potential.

It really depends on whether or not you like the guy. Schenn certainly fits your bill based on role & salary, but obviously you're not going to give Benning credit there. In fact, I have no faith that you can truly be objective because you are notoriously known to be biased, which is expected on a fan site, but you really go out of your way to showcase it.

[Report] Ducks name Dallas Eakins as head coach

[Report] Ducks name Dallas Eakins as head coach
Dazzle replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Dallas Eakins isn't that bad of a coach. Look at how pitiful the Oilers are - even Ken Hitchcock couldn't help them. -
This is true, although this should have been fairly obvious. The French spoken in France is different than in Switzerland too.

Gudbranson - no one including himself would say he had a good time here. In fact, he said he didn't play well as he would have liked to. Not a bad guy, just not the right fit. Pouliot - was a fringe defenceman that ended up being even more of a fringe defenceman after being here. His inconsistent play made him unreliable to be kept in the lineup. Eventually he was phased out. Again, not a bad guy, but maybe not the right fit. Loui - had 30+ goal seasons on different teams. Was expecting to inject some much needed offence. Didn't happen. He was relegated down the roster, though you could tell he was trying his best to perform, but didn't. Loui is clearly the best signing of the three UFAs that year (Lucic and Neal), yet he is criticized for not producing. Guess what? The other two are ALSO feeling the heat for not producing. The fact is... this is a performance oriented business. If you don't perform, you get the heat until you do. Green does get torched sometimes for his line deployments. Benning? What is there to torch? He has singlehanded changed scouting success for this team. His best player (through the help of his scouts) is Pettersson. Enough said.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not posting ignorance. If you don't know enough information about something, don't call other people ignorant. For the record, I really hoped Eriksson would "click" on this team, especially when the Sedins around. Maybe he'd rejuvenate them based on their past chemistry in the tournament. I was actually excited. He had three 30+ goal seasons. Maybe he could play like Vrbata did when he first came. But none of that came to fruition.
-
It's easy to make excuses but Eriksson has not flourished under two coaches. Most recently, he has played poorly on the international ice.
-
He's not going to be the solution to their goalie issues. The issue isn't even entirely about the personnel. It's the upper management. They're so incompetent.

[Report] Flyers place MacDonald on waivers
Dazzle replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's not that bad. Sure he's no offensive stalwart, but here is a somewhat generalized report of his play, FWIW. He was paid 5 million, so more than Gudbranson. Gudbranson's salary was a "deal" compared to this guy. But I guess you get what you pay for... Gudbranson's lack of puck mobility puts him in the 4M range. Moves the puck well and is generally good with the puck. Can log an awful lot of ice time at all levels. Very mobile, he also has a bit of offensive ability (especially at lower levels). Does not play a consistent game at all, in all facets of the game, so there is a true lack of dependability and reliability here. Is somewhat prone to injury. Lacks ideal size. http://www.sportsforecaster.com/nhl/player/5984 -
[Report] Flyers place MacDonald on waivers
Dazzle replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't get it... why are they buying him out with only one year left on his contract? They have 30 Million and they are in good place financially. No UFAs this year, aside from maybe Kevin Hayes. Maybe they are going hard after Gardiner? He's not going to fix their problems. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flyers -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
Dazzle replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
J.P Barry is/was also the reason why Dahlen got traded. Barry said he requested the traded, but Dahlen denies it. He's not screwing over the team necessarily. He's representing his agent and Eriksson clearly isn't happy playing here. We could use that roster space for someone impactful. -

This false-color graphic shows the topography of the far side of the Moon. The warmer colors indicate high topography and the bluer colors indicate low topography. The dashed circle shows the location of the mass under the South Pole-Aitken basin. Credit: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center/University of Arizona Topline: An unknown, mysterious mass has been found beneath a crater on the Moon, according to researchers at Baylor University—and it may give scientists clues into how the Moon was shaped. Researchers discovered an unknown anomaly roughly five times the size of Hawaii’s largest island. The mass is sitting beneath one of the largest preserved craters in the solar system, the South Pole-Aitken basin. A plausible guess by scientists: The mass is a piece of metal left behind nearly 4 billion years ago by the asteroid that formed the crater. The mysterious mass sits more than 300 km (186 miles) underneath the solar system’s largest crater. The crater isn’t visible to the naked eye because it’s on the far side of the moon, which always faces away from Earth. While the researchers who discovered the mass don’t know what it is or where it came from, computer simulations suggest that, under the right conditions, a large asteroid’s iron-nickel core could have been embedded inside the moon upon impact almost 4 billion years ago. Another possibility, according to researchers, is that the mass consists of oxides left over from when the moon was changing from a large ocean of molten magma to what it is today.

? Do you want to elaborate on this?

I don't see the similarity. Can you expand on this point?
