[Proposal] Canucks and Avalanche Trade
Dazzle replied to RowdyCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
It's a better proposal than most proposals but... why would they make a trade like this to a divisional rival, especially with a 16th overall? -
[Article] The Misunderstood Matter of Olli Joulevi
Dazzle replied to Drive-By Body Pierce's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Now I am on the OJ bandwagon like you are, but I do think you are being biased. Sergachev is good and he is benefiting from playing in an environment that will bail him out from mistakes. This can be good or bad. If he falters too much, he will get demoted, much like any other player would. Chychurin on the other hand is playing on what was a pretty subpar team (they were better this year - almost made the playoffs). Nevertheless, he is a losing environment, but he's done pretty well for himself. Sergachev and Chychurin turned out pretty good on their respective teams. There is no reason, aside from injuries, that Juolevi won't succeed in the NHL. He has the pedigree and showed that in a small sample that he could play in the AHL. Juolevi, after all, has played for years against men. He will do fine. -
It depends on what you mean by "effective" at their role. Arguably, Virtanen, if you don't look at where he was picked, IS in fact effective at his role. 1) Can be put up and down the lineup with varying degrees of success. Has shown that he can score (unlike Gaunce). 2) Is physical (but you could argue he could be more aggressive) 3) Has shown that he is not a liability in all zones - for example, has more takeaways than giveaways. Also doesn't often take dumb penalties. That in itself shows versatility. Now, if we were to go with the narrative that Virtanen doesn't have good hockey sense (no hockey IQ), why isn't he more successful at the PWF? You guys make it seem like any big guy can succeed at being a PWF, when clearly that isn't the case. I do think that Virtanen will have a breakout season this year. He's already improved his numbers from last year, so he is definitely not regressing. He's going to make you look silly next year.

Would you like to elaborate on your personal experiences there? In all seriousness, Juolevi is going to be really exciting to see if and when he comes to the team. I'd expect him to be in the AHL only briefly, if at all, just to let him get up to speed. But I think he's NHL ready. This is based on little to no information about him currently.

[Article] The Misunderstood Matter of Olli Joulevi
Dazzle replied to Drive-By Body Pierce's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Whoa there... Olli Juolevi is not as flashy as Sergachev. He's going to be a more 'boring' defenseman but he's going to make the RIGHT plays that will prevent goals and help the team score. That is Juolevi's game in a nutshell. He's got some offense, but it is by no means his only aspect of the game. It might even be underrated too. Juolevi is a WINNER at all levels, as I and other people have mentioned. He's going to be a really good piece for us. -
So my question out of this is what is a Canadian economist doing talking about climate change and extreme weather conditions? It's like a business mogul talking about the negative impacts of migration of people coming into a country. Oh wait... Ross McKitrick is a Canadian economist specializing in environmental economics and policy analysis. He is a professor of economics at the University of Guelph, and a senior fellow of the Fraser Institute. Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_McKitrick

But some positions are harder to learn. The nuances for example of the centre position normally takes a long time to master - and being a winger is considerably easier. I would expect that being a PWF may be part of this discussion - knowing when to be aggressive and when not to be. Virtanen shows great speed, but he needs to coordinate this with his physicality. Of course we'll find plenty of examples that will challenge the above statements. Crosby, Pettersson etc. It's an exception rather than the norm. I think your point and Rob's point could still be both valid, from this angle.

With all due respect, this isn't a "proof"; it's just that we don't know more to indicate otherwise. On the topic of drugs, some recreational drugs if taken once in a while show no measurable impact on the brain or body. Yet there isn't information about it when used in higher doses, specifically for recreational effects. Some have speculated that hallucination on drugs is 'bad' for the brain. It probably isn't healthy but more research should be done to see what happens, when practical. What we do know is that climate change is affecting many parts of the earth, effecting extinction in some cases. That being said, carbon tax, while effective in many parts of the world (California, and previously Ontario and Quebec), doesn't "protect" Canadians from extreme weather. It's not like you pay a mafia-like protection fee and extreme weather won't come and haunt you.

Part of their success is/was inevitably dependent on the team that they are playing on as well. Some names that stick out were Iginla (when Calgary was competitive), Lucic (Boston) and Todd Bertuzzi (right place/right time, but even he didn't blossom right away). Brady Tkachuk is an exception to the list I provided, which arguably could be explained that he had more ice time. He ranked 5th on an OTT team, playing with Mark Stone (who's showing that he is an incredible talent). It's not to take away from Tkachuk's skill and work, but there are more factors at play that influence not only how PWF performs but all other positions too.

(Rumour) Poolparty wants out of Edmonton
Dazzle replied to Nucksfollower1983's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I would expect that Trouba would be traded in exchange for Pulujarvi. Trouba definitely wants out of Winnipeg but he has no power to stop a trade to EDM. He's not going to like it though. -
(Rumour) Poolparty wants out of Edmonton

So we heard it from the horse's mouth, Poolparty from Edmonton, wants to play in the NHL, therefore we can safely conclude that the Oilers aren't an NHL team. -
[Speculation] Canucks all in for Jason Zucker
Dazzle replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There's also been multiple offers of Fenton offering Zucker to different teams but no takers, including the one where he tried to obtain Boeser in exchange. It's just GMs doing work they are paid to do. Zucker is not a bad player at all - but it depends on what the return is. -
Don't forget guys, Eriksson has a full NTC. He can't be traded unless he gets the final say.

I'd be inclined to agree. Pittsburgh let Fleury go after all.

I'm pretty sure the resident Sabres fan here mentioned about how he didn't like his coaching. The grass is greener on the other side. I don't think Newell Brown has been given good tools to work with. He has a ton of experience on the PP but we've had mediocre PP players, mostly because they can't move the puck.

Toronto fans were/have been pooing on Gardiner for years. 18W who beat me to this post provides even more context. He is decent offensively but defensively, he is worse than Sbisa was (and he wasn't even that bad). I swear to god... people are going to REGRET Gardiner, unless they need a scapegoat. He's going to be eaten alive in Vancouver, quote me.

Tryamkin and Dahlen's comparisons are not even close. Dahlen has been traded TWO times already in his short career. Red flag for sure. Tryamkin is still the Canucks' draft pick that is playing in Russia due to "family reasons" (whatever those reasons may be - allegedly, they were about his wife not being happy in Canada). Here's the thing. Dahlen didn't even wait out the rest of the year before allegedly demanding a trade (which of course he denies - Benning said it was Dahlen requesting it, possibly to strong-arm himself). Obviously he wasn't happy with how he was treated in Utica, which may or may not be true. If he was unhappy with his situation, he could've waited out the rest of the season, worked HARD in the summer and force his way on the NHL team next year. That didn't happen. Furthermore, contradictory information between Dahlen/Dahlen's agent and Benning who has a reputation thus far for being honest and forthcoming shows there is more to the story than what Dahlen is presenting. In short, Dahlen is either poorly informed by his agent J.P Barry (very very unlikely, as he is extremely experienced) or that Dahlen is a problem character that needs some growing up. Based on the information available freely in public, I would say he has significant character issues. He literally gave up an opportunity to play alongside Pettersson next year (if he forced his way on the team), just so he could try to squeeze into an NHL lineup this year. If that's not immaturity to you, I don't know what is.

[Rumour]LA Looking at buying out Phaneuf

Pettersson picked off his pizza last season which might have something to do with it -
[Speculation] Kapanen in TO available
Dazzle replied to Kanukfanatic's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not with his cap hit. They should've traded him when he was sitting out. Hindsight is 20/20.
