  1. Clague is another recognisable name - not all WJC superstars end up being NHL regulars...
  2. I don't know why NJD wouldn't try to trade the 2nd for Miller, if that's the case. Miller would've worked out well for them and it's cost controlled too.
  3. Well, the Canucks are not real losers because we lost to teams that eventually won the cup. This is such a sad, sad perspective...
  4. That's the lamest excuse ever. The Leafs were always pegged to do some major damage in the playoffs, and they always fall short. In fact, they've been ousted several years in a row. It doesn't matter if those teams end up going to the cup finals - that in itself does not relate to how the Leafs lose in the playoffs, every single year. It's a theme with them, not with other teams.
  5. He's also struggled immensely without a cup contending team. Toronto is NOT a cup contending team, considering they have so much trouble exiting out of the first round.
  6. You must be really young because there are a ton of first round picks that never made the NHL. Look no further than the year 1999 with the Sedins. JV being among the biggest busts? Lmfaooooo...
  7. We had the TDL and the draft to make some kind of splash for defensive changeover. Miller could've been sold extremely high of a price, but in a typical fashion, we love our players too much so we re-sign them, instead of trading. I am not saying that keeping Miller is a bad decision, but that means we have more cap committed to yet another player, instead of dispersing multiple decent players that could help our depth.
  8. It doesn't actually trigger me, but to say Trump is so much better because of the current President says so much about you. Seriously. Trump's probably one of the worst people to be a world leader, and this reality has nothing to do with the Dems. Trump, along with the other Republicans who had enabled him, really demonstrates how broken the US is. Trump by himself would not have come to power, after all, without support. It's hard to imagine how you can brush aside all the scandals that had always followed Trump, and are continuing to haunt him Trump is so much better, huh? Trump is trash, and your glowing endorsement of him is reflective of you.
  9. I guess those rumours about his entitlement/poor attitude were all true with him.
  10. So Miller was identified by Benning and he was an integral member of this team? No big deal then...
  11. But apparently, making trades for the sake of making trades is always a bad thing, so we will just 'stand pat', just like the original TDL. I am not sold on this team's identity because nothing of substance was really done to change what was supposed to be a "poorly constructed" team. If so, we should have seen big changes, or is the team not as terribly constructed as perpetuated? HMM.
  12. Nah. I understood people's viewpoints. The argument that Benning was making trades for the sake of making trades is pretty unfounded. The massive trade of when he needed to pull the trigger was not one done out of "desperation". Getting rid of Player Name and Roussel for Garland and OEL is not that bad of a trade. Certainly, no worse than the Leafs throwing away 1st round picks solely to get rid of cap troubles. What about NYI? They did the exact same thing, and here we are, wondering about our futures.
  13. Why not though? The drafting has been a lot better recently than in the past (see the previous regime before Benning). We have several young players under great contracts, but we are trending upwards when it comes to NHL ready prospects. Sure there's not as much in the cupboard, but you must take into consideration players that have basically graduated (Podkolzin being one of them). So far, we have only traded some picks. Why is this situation considered so much worse than when Gillis left the team?
  14. I don't know if the Canucks can palate going after an expensive FA at this point in time...
  15. Green is not a good coach (AHL or NHL). We do have evidence to support this position. Desjardins was given terrible rosters (no exciting Canuck prospects), and he had a better win record than Green, who was given the likes of Pettersson, Horvat, Demko, Hoglander, and so forth. Willie Desjardins Also, Craig Button describes Benning as a GM who "poorly constructed" the core. Button then talks about Green taking away from the strength (offense), which essentially neutralizes whatever Benning was trying to do. How did a "poorly constructed" core become better defensively AFTER BB? It's the same group of people, minus Travis Hamonic. Clearly, the core wasn't really the problem, but the coach who had zero clue how to deploy its players. We saw this with the poor preseason + early season performances. How did BB turn a bottom feeding team a total 180 degrees?
  16. Remember when people thought Benning got ripped off from the MIller trade? Now those same people are expecting the moon from Miller, now that he's had his best season? It's almost like Benning's positive contributions are ignored/downplayed, but his failures are brought to the forefront. This results in a seriously biased discussion that doesn't fairly look at the entire picture. The selecting or 'cherrypicking' of evidence makes a flawed discussion. Seriously, people NEED to know how a logical discussion works. You MUST take into account good AND bad moves in order to arrive at a logical conclusion.
  17. That's silly. The Canucks did poorly with the best iced roster with Green at the helm. All of this changed when Green and Benning were fired. Truly, Benning being fired could not have resulted in a performance boost. And if so, how would this be measured or quantified? An impossible task really. Rather, the firing of an unproven NHL coach (Green is unproven, given his extensive NHL/AHL seasons with no winning records) led to the hiring of a much more experienced coach in BB. BB coached this same roster to a near playoff spot, despite starting from the bottom of the standings. And given how the lineup had remained largely unchanged during the JR takeover, it is reasonable to say that Benning was blamed for many things, which in some cases were not entirely warranted. If is illogical to take the opinion that Benning had 'poorly constructed' this team (this was the opinion of Craig Button, who was a fierce defender of Green), while ignoring the fact that this roster was largely unchanged. The difference WAS BB, clearly. That is undeniable.
  18. It's the same fanbase that talked about new management being so much better than Benning, despite the results being almost negligible (so far). The roster is still very much Benning's, which contradicts the opinions that Benning destroyed this team, or built this team 'poorly'. It almost seems like they are not concerned with evidence as they are chasing after the individual. Allvin/JR have so far done so little that they don't deserve the praise that they're getting. It's basically a continuation of Benning at this point. There's nothing major addressed, but people are apparently happy with two unproven free agents, and a mid-round first round pick due to the team that was originally constructed by Benning had nearly making the playoffs Green is an awful coach - and I'm glad the majority of those people no longer make excuses for him. People mistake this perspective of mine as being a 'homer' of Benning. No. Benning extended this clown, so he deserves blame. But what if Benning hired a proven coach earlier? He's nowhere near as bad as people say he is doing, considering JR still kept this team intact, even today. I've been clamoring for Green's firing since after the preseason last year. The dude cannot adapt to any roster that's given to him, whether that's in the NHL or in the AHL. Make no mistake, I am not blaming this new regime, but the fanbase that often demonstrates that they can't look at things in a logical manner.
  19. Nah. I am not bashing the new regime per se. It's just hilarious how this fanbase praised so much for something so little.
  20. The team that almost made the playoffs was once thought to be a bottom feeder under Green. It wasn't Benning that was the entire problem - it was Green, who Benning had EXTENDED. This is about taking things into perspective.
  21. Honestly, Allvin/JR's just getting started, but at the same time, the amount of praise he's been given for doing almost nothing is hilarious. This is still largely built by Benning, the same man that this fanbase has accused of "destroying" the team's futures. Lmfao. Now that reality's set in - I hope people start to realize that the early over-the-top praise was misguided.
  22. This is something that Gillis/Benning should've done, in hindsight.
