  1. I thought they said he was good for Monday?
  2. Kinda funny how Baumgartner's been given all these opportunities to coach BEFORE Green. Says a lot about how Green is really perceived.
  3. LOL... If you want to know why depth is so bad, especially when absurdly trying to compare Tampa and Colorado, it's because they drafted their players. Guess who didn't draft well? Gillis. Seems like it's pulling teeth for some people to admit that Gillis screwed the pooch hard, and it's still costing the Canucks. People say 8+ years have passed - it's really not that simple. When you get caught trying to continue a cycle that shouldn't have been continued, then we lose opportunity to maximize our assets. As for new management, they will have to sell high on Miller for them to actually be good. As of now, there is no way to say that new management is much better. All they've done so far is trade Motte, and hiring Boudreau. That's it. Boudreau is an absolutely good hiring, and I never want to hear how Green was supposedly "handcuffed" from coaching his rosters. He sucked, and is also the reason why we got into a hole that we couldn't recover from.
  4. I think Patrice Bergeron is pretty close to being a franchise player. I dunno why you make it seem like getting a Bergeron 2.0 would be something of a reason not to tank.
  5. I've been calling to sell assets for this team so they can capitalize on a non-playoff season. And what do we do? We do nothing at the deadline, except one small trade.
  6. I don't get it at all... people have such short memories, or choose to remember certain things, but forget the others. At one moment, fans complain about depth, and talk about signing a bunch of well-known UFAs, which inevitably come with term. Then, at another moment, complain about UFAs taking up cap space... people bitch about Myers, even though he's still a useful defenseman who has improved a lot in his game since he came here.
  7. With UFA, you inevitably pay higher than normal prices for average defenseman, and extra high prices for 'good' defenseman. I'm not sure UFA is the right direction to go. We've seen this team try to build through UFA, so they add all these expensive pieces into the roster, only for the fans to turn around and complain about the spending...
  8. Exactly. Given how much time had lapsed when she reported the crime, that will hurt her criminal case immensely. But as one can see from the Prince Andrew case, one can still get a settlement.
  9. Vegas almost blew their 3 game lead... I guess they were mentally weak too. The Lightning lost to Columbus a few years back... "mentally weak" too.
  10. That's why there's a court system. Nobody should be forming opinions until the trial is over. And even then, the trial system is not perfect. Just because someone is found not guilty doesn't necessarily mean they're innocent. At the same time, someone who is found guilty may or may not actually be guilty because of: a) evidence tampering/mishandling b) witnesses c) judgemental juries Of course, most people found guilty will likely say they're innocent. Yet how many times have we run into a situation where new evidence comes to light which exonerates them? It's a little too often for one to be confident in the system, particularly if they're a person of colour.
  11. I guess Vegas was 'mentally weak' then, according to your logic...
  12. Pressure exists in every sports market. Look at Toronto/Montreal, but more specifically Toronto. We see how they have 'collapsed' over the years, going no further than the first round, regardless of their perceived rankings, or their stats. This fanbase, in particular, is pretty fickle. After many seasons of success from the 2000s to the early 2010s, we see a dramatic decrease in attendance from the fanbase, especially when the team hasn't been doing well. Contrast that to Toronto which has a very loyal fanbase. It used to be that the Canucks had a "goalie graveyard", and now it's flourishing, even in a hot market that traditionally blamed goalies for everything. I think we can all agree that this fanbase is both good and bad. We see happy fans after wins, and pessimism (usually coming from those 'fans' that only appear after losses) after losses. The emotional rollercoaster is part of the charm of this team, for better or worse.
  13. Very few people are actually in Smith's corner, which is impressive. Finally we see unity among the population. What an absolute IDIOTIC thing for him to do. He just won an Oscar, and he managed to &^@# up his own night at the same time.
  14. He's a good coach, and this just speaks a little about Monahan's game. It's up to him to elevate it.
  15. It really is. I guess I can understand why that charity is so bad when it had its roots in a not-so-good charity. Supposedly there was a 100M of help from it, but other websites cite 30-40 million... and the distribution of those funds mostly went to the running of the company. That's not a charity, imo. That's a business that does some charity on the side. A charity should be something which has a primary purpose of donating a significant amount of money from the company's efforts. Interestingly... https://ottawa.citynews.ca/local-news/former-sens-foundation-revokes-charitable-status-joins-oseg-foundation-4469616 he Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation (OGYF), formerly the Senators Foundation, has a new agreement with the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) Foundation, which will see the OGYFs cash and in-kind assets be mobilized and invested within the community through the care of the OSEG Foundation. As a result of this new partnership, the OGYF has filed for voluntary revocation of its charitable status.
  16. There's more to it than it being false. Gibbons isn't/wasn't fired by the Ottawa Sun for reporting false info. https://awfulannouncing.com/newspapers/ottawa-sun-correction-apology-errors-senators-foundation-eugene-melnyk.html This article does a fair job of distinguishing what was problematic with his article, but also what Melynk didn't address. It's clear that Melnyk had a lot of influence in Ottawa, but if Gibbons had made a huge mistake as reporting numbers falsely, would it not be grounds for termination? --- A notable element of this saga even the lengthy correction and apology providing the Senators/Melnyk/The Organ Project side of things, and even the team statement and its further detail, doesn’t really answer all the questions raised by Gibbons’ pieces in the first place. Yes, his Senators Foundation rent number was wrong, and his framing of the finances of The Organ Project is at least disputed (but wasn’t portrayed as such in the initial piece). And those missteps, combined with the decision to not seek pre-publication comment, appear to have given Melnyk enough ammunition to push for this lengthy correction and apology. Gibbons' article remains up too, not removed.
  17. I think this is an underappreciated thread. The only thing about stats is that they are out of context because we don't know how good a league is. Therefore, a player with high stats on paper may actually be less impressive in reality compared to a low scoring prospect in a superior league. To add to this point, the deployment of a player is not clearly underlined because a player could be producing less because he is responsible for all the defensive duties, despite also scoring some goals. Nonetheless, it's nice to see all the prospects listed, and it's up to posters to read up on the players themselves.
  18. We have to remember that revisionism of history is a dangerous thing. An arguable point about people erecting buildings in their name (as is usually the case for wealthy donors) is to potentially influence how they are remembered. Of course, this is not fair to say this about every donor that does something in this way, but it's worth reflecting on it. This is also not to say that the charity or the foundation is necessarily a bad one too, simply because it has the name. There's more to it that we should look deeper into. There are a ton of individuals (rich and poor) that have done a lot for society. I just didn't expect Melnyk to be remembered as this 'generous' guy when he was definitely remembered not that long ago to be the most 'cheap' owner. We've seen these types of comments on this forum, and on other boards. I also get that we should remember someone because they're dead. All I'm saying is that we should not confuse 'respect for the dead' with falsifying history to fit how we think we should remember someone. Yes, he 'saved' the team in 1993, and there have been questions about how he did that too - but my point being is that we shouldn't spin a story about how good someone is when all of us at some point in time have definitely criticized Melnyk for his behaviour when he was alive.
  19. It's not digging up dirt. This was all stuff written years before his death. The history should NOT be forgotten. Why are we now pretending that he's a good man? He really wasn't. It's wrong to slander someone who really did good things, but there were a ton of question marks about his ethics before his death. That is a fact. I just looked at newly formed foundation that was formerly the Sens Foundation: https://www.charityintelligence.ca/charity-details/1023-ottawa-gatineau-youth-foundation Terrible.
