  1. It's hilarious how his hatred and bias has caused him to make some inaccurate statements. One may not like Trudeau, for example, but saying he isn't a real PM is another comparison about this Benning hatred. I don't know how someone can work eight years on a job, and still not be acknowledged as a GM. It's almost like this cherry picking thing is a frequent thing among the Benning bashers.
  2. Gillis was a GM. Benning was a GM. Both had different results. Saying that Benning wasn't a GM is pretty dishonest/inaccurate. I'm not expecting much though, given how this post is coming from you - the Dahlen defender lol.
  3. This was a pretty bad deadline, given how this team didn't move forward, nor back, given our position. Our biggest acquisitions were a waiver claim, and a Dermott for a 3rd round pick. Are you excited about our future?
  4. There's nothing hyperbole about Gillis' poor drafting/development. The results are what you see. He missed all but three of his picks. What's there to defend about the guy?
  5. That's exactly it. Anyone who votes this deadline to be a B are clearly not ready to analyze this situation because they're likely still recovering from their high after Benning got fired.
  6. This is pure hyperbole, and it's not even close to being true. Chia is closer to that status than Benning ever will be. In order for Benning to actually classify as Milbury level, he would have to trade away players BEFORE they hit their prime with awful trades (i.e. Chara, Bertuzzi, Luongo). Even the worst Benning hater cannot come up with this.
  7. So this is no different than Player Name's situation in that essence. He's a dump, but when the playoffs roll in, the salary cap does not matter. Sure, it means they'll have less space in case of injury this season, but I think they're safe enough in a spot not to worry about player replacements.
  8. And people fail to understand the damage that Gillis did for a team that was in need of a rebuild. We had players that were not worth a lot. Kesler, in particular, at that time was worth less than what he SHOULD'VE been worth. Though GIllis wasn't at fault for that circumstance, Gillis did not do the team any favours, given how poor the drafting/development was during his reign. We had NO replacement players to sell off and/or graduate during a rebuild. At some point, you had to have something to build off of, so we had Markstrom, Tanev, Edler, and Horvat. But there are so many holes on that team that it's laughable. Edler, in particular, was a relic from the past. Good defenseman, but again, no succession plan from Gillis. Then we see Anaheim who did perform badly for a few years, and found itself trading players THIS YEAR to help their rebuild. We just never had an owner (or a GM) who wanted to do it. This includes JR. We paid more than what we received just highlights the failure of this deadline.
  9. I suppose it's short term pain, long term gain. There's no salary cap during the playoffs, so Kesler is hardly a punishment at that point.
  10. It's a 4th rounder, but it's worth noting that it's not a high one. The Rangers are doing better than expected, and so their draft pick will naturally be lower than other teams.
  11. A ton of teams just traded/offloaded their players for other teams. Does this reality cease to exist when it comes to the Canucks?
  12. Here's the thing: if we criticize management based on how they perform, surely the same standards will be used for this iteration, right? What we saw from some fans here: full-on criticism of the GM, given his many years of service or "damage" as some people might label it to be. Contrary to the number of seasons spent, Green was continually given excuses for the Canucks' failure, disregarding the fact that Green had a hand in every roster that he coached. We even had people claiming that Green would be hired in a hurry. We also have a pretty muted crowd from the so-called anti-Benning slaggers, all of whom had been criticizing the fact that we didn't accumulate as many picks as we could've. We do see a bunch of people from that camp ADVOCATING the use of draft picks to make a push for this team, as well as to dump salary cap. We have a bunch of people rah-rahing over JR, while ignoring the fact that Benning had constructed this roster. I definitely remember people praising JR for his "vision" that was apparently vacant under Benning's reign. All of this is contradictory to the standards that we set when criticizing GMs. It seems like criticism can be shifted.
  13. I didn't want to trade Motte, but if you're gonna trade Motte, the team should be trading other pieces to facilitate a tank (if that was the case), and recoup picks. We paid more than we received in this deadline, and we claimed a free player. Should we be happy?
  14. It's something, but some people are overvaluing picks like a 4th round to justify the lack of action.
  15. Ok, and where do we stand now after the trade? We saved 800 k this season, and we gain a low 4th round pick. We are so rich! What about our other players? How much does 1.5 mill (savings from Hamonic) + 800 k do for us?
  16. Poolman gets hated for no reason, but he serves a purpose. If he wasn't injured, he would've been useful for eating minutes. Note how Dickinson received a 3rd rounder. (Different time period). Motte got a 4th. We traded Dermott for a third. Teams offloaded their unwanted players, especially if they were out of the picture. We bought and sold like a middleman. I don't know how anyone can rationalize this deadline as being higher than a 2.
  17. I doubt a 4th rounder from a playoff contending Rangers will be worth much. It's basically a high 5th rounder. The Motte trade was done to cut losses, nothing more. We did not improve this team, nor did we acquire anymore draft picks in this supposed "deep draft". This was a poor performance in a deadline.
  18. Remember when the Blackhawks acquired Fleury for a low pick? They had the good sense to flip him when they got a high return from what they paid. Yeah, that's what the Canucks should've done. Why can't we maximize trade value like these teams? We are destined to be mediocre. Might step away from hockey for a while and not watch the Canucks. We are so incredibly bad with our management decisions.
  19. So Kesler is used for LTIR, essentially to "bank" cap space. Anaheim was willing to help Las Vegas, but they both win. The Canucks trade a third and gain a fourth. Ok.
  20. So if we're not a rebuilding team, why did we pay a third for Dermott? Surely, if we're getting on the 'draft pick is a negotiation tool' train, a third is better than a fourth, right? We shed some cap, of course, but we didn't do it in concert with other moves. For example, if we weakened our defense (which we surely did), we could've auctioned off other pieces to facilitate our drop in the standings, which could improve our chances at picking either. We didn't plan to tank, obviously. We also didn't plan to succeed either. Don't know why you think so highly about a 4th round pick, but not understand the circumstances of our team.
  21. Definitely a 1, if we're going to be honest. We paid for a third, and gained a fourth, for a team that was neither positioned for playoff competition, nor rebuild. Anyone could've pulled off the moves that we did today. Maximizing trade value is what good GMs do. A 4th is basically a wash for Motte.
  22. All that diversity and we get a vanilla deadline. I'm sorry. Diversity is good, but we needed fresh ideas. Standing pat is something I could've done if they hired me.
  23. New management = old tricks.

The people who claim about Benning should be complaining about the lack of bold moves.

Like JM has said. Patience. I will wait until management moves it’s first big piece. Not going to get my hopes up with anything though, been disappointed too much.

It does suck seeing Ducks get all those picks though.

We did the safe thing, nothing.  Either you blow it all up or you retool on the fly.  We did neither.  Haven't done anything all year to help the boys with a playoff push since JR took over.  Don't think the boys and Boudreau are too happy about things.

  24. Nothing wrong with claiming Richardson, but it's the entirety of the moves. We paid a 3rd, gained a 4th, all the while being 5 points out of a playoff spot. The moves made by management speak volumes about their confidence in us. The fact that they were ok being mediocre this season, in the hopes that we'll turn it around later in the season is baffling. Truly baffling. They seriously couldn't settle on a lucrative offer on Miller? It's just very poor planning.
