  1. They could develop depth. A 17th overall is not nothing.
  2. I feel that Linden will always be a Canuck and this topic is important enough to be placed here. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- @-DLC- I am in full support of any movement that is against domestic abuse. But I think that there is a huge void in what you have printed here Deb, in that what you have failed to include is any mention of domestic abuse of men. This is not to lessen the very real concerns of those listed above, only that there is a real lack of recognition of abuse towards men. In a day where equality is front and center. This is still kept in the closet. I myself, have been a victim of abuse by my partner. I have been punched, scratched, and hit in the face with an alarm clock, and sworn at so many times, it stems on the side of ridiculous. I was asked why I did not leave, and at the time, with young children, that did not seem as an option. I could take it, and I did. My brother's wife, used to beat the livin crap out of him, and in addition, she through my niece down the stairs. I often asked myself, why he never left, and his comments were, "She said she was sorry!" and would never do it again. He having come from a past marriage, where his wife was found in bed with another man, by me, had a very low self esteem, and never knew what he could do with the children, when he was at work. I tell these stories, because I know of them first hand, and was part of them, in one way or another. They are exactly the same stories as you hear countless times, from other Men, women and children, through out the country. Shameful at best! I telling you all my story, it in no way deminishishes, the atrocities towards anyone abused, especially, those that can not protect themselves. It is a disgusting event, and I think it is great, that people bring it up front and center. Just do not forget the many men, that are in the exact same situation. Thank you for posting this story, and god bless, anyone that has suffered from domestic, work place violence. This is not her fault, to be fair. This campaign singled out men and that is a serious oversight for sure.
  3. This is an important campaign; however, male domestic victims are clearly left out here. I just wished they included everyone. Knowing someone who was a legit male victim from an abusive wife, I could not imagine just how isolated they felt. Domestic violence is something that makes me really upset. During a sit-in, I heard how a woman was terrified about seeing her partner, but a lady cop and dispatcher assured her that help was on the way. They'd even arrange it so that they'd meet in a neutral zone (not at home).
  4. They were in the same freaking draft, bud. It's illogical how you could say one prospect was a "finished product" while the others in the same draft were "still growing". This is total nonsense. Either all of them were finished products or they were all still growing. Trying to pick and choose who is growing or not is dishonest. And it's rather hilarious that you can say Juolevi would not have been at McAvoy's level now. Did you say that before the draft? Could you have? People are dumping on Juolevi because of what happened AFTER the draft (i.e. injuries). No one could've foreseen this decline. No one. Explain why Juolevi was ranked so high in the draft
  5. You completely glossed out the reasons behind that. You didn't even bother addressing them.
  6. This is some seriously bad historical revisionism. Totally irks me. People are pretending like they knew Juolevi would bust, when really, he was viewed as an excellent defensive prospect. It's just a shame that injuries and some serious coaching mismanagement (Green benched him after Juolevi got his first NHL goal lol) really hurt his development. I've always said that if the Canucks had picked Sergachev, he would've 100 percent been a bust on the Canucks. Sergachev: Juolevi: Let's not pretend there was a huge difference between the two prospects.
  7. This has been a enduring narrative that has been very detrimental and condescending. There's been tens of thousands of Coyote fans on any given night. Consider that the Coyotes have been mismanaged for decades, both roster wise and the branding. There's been a couple of moves from their arenas, one of which is so far away that it really tested the loyalty of fans who would've had to drive out of the way to go watch, instead of downtown. If anything, Coyote fans have shown they ARE loyal. Canuck fans have continued to bitch about a certain past GM, but the Coyotes have been practically neutered. The fans have shown an incredible amount of patience and they still came to support their team.
  8. Could you elaborate on what this means for Matthew Wood?
  9. Anyone who is a neutral observer will realize that paying for a 1st and a 2nd (during a bad year) was not a good deal. I know there's a certain poster who thinks we got a "steal" from this, but consider this: Hronek was a 2nd round from many years ago, which speaks to the benefits of drafting. They were later able to recoup that 2nd round pick AND a 1st round pick. I hope Hronek doesn't end up being a Clendenning 2.0. Forsling is/was Benning's worst trade. Here's what I like about this current group of management: 1) Pro scouting >>> much better than what Benning ever did. Hirose, Joshua, Bear, etc etc. Had Benning gotten anyone of these players, he probably wouldn't have wasted as much money as he did. 2) Early drafting success - my favourite prospect so far is E.Pettersson (Defenseman). What a fantastic pick. This trade is not one of those good things.
  10. The amount of toughness required is unreal. The Sedins did not get the respect that they deserved. They were not soft Swedes at all.
  11. Sorry bud. If you're going to be praising Gillis for how good he is running the team, drafting was not one of Gillis' strengths. Every single successful GM has relied on drafts to bring players up. He had an equivalent amount of time as Benning to draft and there's literally nothing to show for it in recent memory, aside from Horvat. And now he's gone. That's a terrible track record as a GM not to be able to draft anyone else except in the 1st round (Horvat, Hodgson) and Hutton. The misses are endless, whether it was in the 2nd round or the 6th round. Gillis' impact was cute, but you're vastly overstating the significance. He tried many different things. Some worked. Some didn't. If you're going to be comparing GMs, you best not leave out the negative parts. That's just dishonest dialogue.
  12. I'm obligated to say something when people who pretend to know what they're talking about use my academic field to push their own narratives. The premise from Heffy was that Putin was a Nazi (Malkin was supporting a Nazi). I explained why this is wrong. Now you say Stalin is like Hitler? Laughable. So which is it? Was Stalin a Nazi? Logically, you are digging yourself into a bigger hole. Stalin and Hitler got along at times, but Stalin genuinely trusted Hitler. Hitler used that trust to buy himself time before the invasion of Barbarossa. But please, keep telling us why Stalin and Hitler are the same lol. History is a very important subject and it is blasphemy to use it in nefarious ways. I'm not adding anything more. Clearly, you two need to do more research before taking stances that you two can't defend.
  13. Wow, I loved how you didn't address any of my points that underscored why they aren't similar. Here, you've made some surface level generalizations that are consistent with a couple of leaders, such as Stalin. Haha. Does that mean Stalin is similar to Hitler then? If so, how do their political ideologies differ? Here are the points that you are unable to address. Economically, Putin is doing nowhere near as well as Hitler did. Same with the military. Hitler's generals used blitzkrieg tactics masterfully and their units were well coordinated for the most part. Putin's generals have yet to demonstrated even a fraction of this success. While Hitler used concentration camps on gays, Jews, and other peoples, he largely hid this from the population because of how unpopular this initiative was in the minds of the public. In fact, Hitler gauged his political talking points based on how the population reacted. If they didn't like it (i.e Kristallnacht), Hitler was actually willing to backtrack. Putin doesn't show the same willingness. We don't have to talk about the political ideologies because they're not even remotely close.
  14. You are cherry picking evidence to suit your narrative and you've just proven that you aren't discussing history. The study of history requires you to weigh multiple viewpoints while using supporting evidence. Ignoring evidence is not what we do as historians. I'm a history graduate and I feel obligated to intervene.
  15. At this point, anyone using the "Nazi" term is probably reaching for low hanging fruit.
  16. It is very alarming to me that you'll condone the comparison of Putin being like Hitler, all the while glossing over the fact that there's hardly a persuasive comparison. The historical gatekeeping also has to stop. History is meant to be discussed by people from all sorts of backgrounds. King Heffy's grasp of WW2/Holocaust is definitely questionable.
  17. What exactly is the comparison with Hitler and Putin? Consider this: Gas chambers/Concentration camps? Any comparisons? Hitler's obsession with blood purity? What about the economic booms under Hitler, pre-1939? Kristallnacht? and the German citizens' uprising which led Hitler to hide the atrocities elsewhere? A decently equipped military with excellent military generals? Political ideologies? The fact that Germany was starving for food and fuel? There's so many things wrong with your comparison. RomanP, as a claimed Jew who's lost people in the Holocaust, should know better here. He should NOT be endorsing this comparison.
  18. Oddly enough, you don't even bother correcting the obvious historical falsehoods that King Heffy is spreading. What's your agenda with this? You know he's wrong about comparing Putin to Hitler. I don't appreciate people obviously twisting historical events to force narratives. History has always been my passion. The fact that you don't address King Heffy's claims makes you quite suspect as a commentator on this. If you yourself think that Putin is like Hitler, I invite you to draw the comparisons. See my post below to @King Heffy
  19. Thanks for adding more information, but it's strange that you don't address the wrongful title of Nazi at all. Why not? Calling Putin a Nazi is politically and factually incorrect.
  20. Openly calling someone a 'Nazi' is wrong on so many levels, both factually and politically. Russia was anti-Nazi in WW2. The Allies relied on Russia for much of the war. With anything, politics is complicated and the interactions with people within that realm are complicated. Take this for example: https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2022/07/30/alex-ovechkin-plays-in-artemi-panarins-charity-game-scores-shootout-goal-takes-ovi-jr-out-onto-the-ice/ Panarin has been very vocal about Putin, yet allowed one of the biggest 'supporters' of Putin into a charity game. What does this say? You cannot make jumps to conclusions about people like this. You don't know what Malkin has to deal with. You just don't know. That being said, I think most if not all can agree that Putin and his cronies are all corrupt nutcases. We CANNOT make these assumptions for anyone else.
  21. Does that make him a Nazi? I didn't realize Putin was a Nazi party member.
  22. Saw it a while ago. I'm not sure what we're supposed to think about this because this is not a new video. Was this supposed to be some kind of commentary about his play and the amount he's making?
  23. They did get Auston Matthews...
  24. I think there's a misunderstanding somewhere. Pettersson and Hughes are elite enough alone to make this team average. Provost isn't saying that THEY'RE average. Now if you're surrounding them with other great talent, this team could be a winner. Hockey is about team players, not individualism. Draitsatl is doing amazing, but McDavid's not doing that great by comparison.
