  1. Sure, but the reverse is true too. How many cups have st. louis or the non tanking teams won? Only 1 team wins in the end and so far the pens, hawks and kings who all drafted high have won the cups. Boston is the lone exception to the rule in this era.
  2. Oh I didn't answer it because it's getting into Kevin Lowe's talk of tiers of fans that he got ripped for in Edmonton. I'm supporting them watching them on TV and supporting sportsnet's huge TV deal. I've always maintained a rebuilding team shouldn't be close to the cap and should be closer to the floor to help offset lost gate revenue. Lose revenue today for more revenue later with a sell out streak like we used to have in the winning days.
  3. Sure it does because even if you don't like Botchford you can't argue with facts. Finishing last guarantees you at least 4th overall, 2nd last 5th overall, etc. It's just objective facts and not an opinion.
  4. Actually it does. See Pettersson and juolevi. Finishing as low as you can prevents you from dropping too far. Lost lotto twice and got 2 top 5 picks still. I call that a successful tank. Also, gets you a high 2nd round pick and Kole Lind!
  5. Again, horvat is doing just fine after two terrible years of losing. You see horvat losing confidence or having his growth stunted? He's an example of why that line of thinking is a myth. Taylor hall is doing fine in New Jersey. Yakupov was just the top pick in a weak draft year and wasn't actually that great. Talent will win out in the end. Losing affecting a players development is just making excuses for the player for not succeeding. I don't like it because it's pulling a Matt Murray and giving 0 accountability to the player.
  6. Sure, but my point is you need to surround them with other good players. They can't do it on their own. The more elite talent you surround them with the better they and the team will be. Losing a few years early in their current isn't going to ruin them for the next 10 years. Horvat spent the last 2 years being on a bottom 3 team. Does he looked ruined to you? He's only getting better. 2 awful years of losing didn't affect him or his confidence one bit. You need to accumulate your elite core through high drafting and then supplement them with trades, ufa signings, etc. Tanking is not the whole process, but just the start to get your future core. Trust the process!
  7. I don't agree because I think that's just making excuses for the player. If he's good enough he'll succeed in the end. I'm not sure if it's provable either way though, but just have never subscribed to that line of thinking.
  8. No cause horvat is setting up Boeser! Gaunce I don't see as a key part of the future and a dime a dozen player. Also, I think talent always wins out and losing won't ruin a prospect. If they don't succeed, then that just means they weren't cut out to be a star anyways. Losing ruining development is a myth to me. Could ruin markstrom/nilsson, but demko/dipietro are the future!
  9. I love the flow, but he sure is hurting the tank. My ideal scenario is him scoring and canuck losing 5-4 games. Best of both worlds!
  10. Yup! Score one for team tank! I can't wait to see him in a canucks uniform!
  11. I'm not sure you understand the comparison. He was asking if this thread would be the opposite of the virtanen thread, meaning all positive and so far it's trending that way! Pettersson is GOD!
  12. I hate the oilers, but am cheering for them to win because I'm scared to death of them getting dahlin! That would be a real kick in the balls if they suck this year and get dahlin!
  13. This kid just keeps impressing. I can't wait to see him in the NHL!
  14. I'll admit, this team has been better than I expected and it's going to be a tougher tank year, but this last stretch of games is giving me optimism that we can get the tank train going again. The comeback vs the kings was demoralizing, but the vegas stinker helped make up for it. Tanking does work because even if we don't win the lottery we still assure ourselves of a high pick. Just look at last year when we lost, but still only dropped to 5th, which allowed us to take pettersson who is tracking to be the best swedish player in history! It also locked us into a high 2nd round pick, which let us grab future superstar Kole Lind! I'll still be hoping for at least another top 5 pick this year, rather than a futile playoffs push or a one and done 1st round knockout in the playoffs. Arizona has last place locked up, but 2nd last isn't out of the question yet. A nice losing streak would be very nice.
  15. I'm ok will the pick because I didn't have strong feelings about anyone this draft. He might take longer to make it, but has pretty high upside.
  16. Well, he's probably going to college for at least 2 years, so has plenty of time to add strength. I have zero concerns about him not being able to do one pull up.
  17. Different sport, but Kevin Durant couldn't do one bench press of 185 at the NBA combine and he turned out to be an MVP. The guy who did the best in the tests didn't end up being drafted. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/05/11/kevin-durant-questions-nba-combine-importance/101542802/
  18. For the reason you just stated. Looks like a man playing against boys. With big guys it's sometimes hard to tell if they're doing well due to talent or because they're just bigger and more physically mature than most. Once that player gets to the NHL, then that size advantage disappears, so if he relied on being bigger than everyone, he won't be as effective. Some see Rasmussen falling in that category.
  19. The difference is none of those 3 were talked about being a generational d like Dahlin. He won't be falling. Will be him and that russian kid fighting for number 1.
  20. They must have given him a bunch of canucks swag. He's wearing a skating logo hoodie and millionaires one. Great vid and such a good guy Brock is.
  21. Most likely 4th, like the oilers last year. I want nico/patrick, but I'm still happy with a top 5 pick. It's what I wanted all year and it took an epic tank in the end to get it, so I can't complain.
  22. People are still on high Liljegren? I haven't followed the draft closely, but I thought his stock and hype has been dropping all year? I'd stay away from him and pick a centre.
  23. Retiring the jersey is a bit much, but he should definitely be in the ring of honour! One of the all time great canucks! Going to miss Burrows and will always remember him as being one of the most classy and nicest canuck off the ice.
  24. Can someone please find Jake's stuff?!! It's so elusive, even he doesn't know where it is!
  25. Yeah canucks can sign him after his season is over. It burns a year of their nhl contract , but is used to entice college players to leave college. I believe flames did that with Johnny hockey who may have debuted against us I think.
