  1. I think there's good reason to get him some north American experience. It's not likely that he would play more than 5 or 6 days due to needing to quarantine, he only burns a year if he plays 7 games, I believe. Gaining some experience though, would give him perspective on what he needs to work on for next year, and the conditioning level he needs to keep up with the NHL schedule.
  2. We're going to need to rotate youth in, nightly, to try and inject energy. I hope we can pull more guys from Utica. I'm hoping that we can get Podkolzin here by end of month.
  3. Every contract you sign in hockey is a crap shoot. We know how Pearson fits with the rest of our group. If we let him go and try and bring in someone else, we're going to pay a premium due to a bidding war, plus having to add full trade protection, and no guarantee on how they fit in. I don't know everything in this sport, far from it, but I do know that all of this is irrelevant, at 40 points, its fair value and the fact that he plays at both ends of the ice is an added bonus. He knows how to compete. He's not flashy, and that might be why some on here are so negative against the signing. He's dependable and you know what type of game you're going to get out of him.
  4. Two days without a positive test, whoooohooo! It's incredible how fast new cases stop showing up, once EVERYONE already has it!
  5. As I reflect on how bent out of shape a lot of fans are getting over a fairly minor contract, it occurs to me; We have a LOT of people on this board who REALLY, BADLY, need to get a life!
  6. We’re in good shape, a few fans are blowing things out of proportion as usual.
  7. If they earn a spot and prove they can outplay someone older, then you make room for them. If they can't, they spend more time in the minors until they can. Too many people are used to just having things handed to them, it builds complacency. Make them push and show that they are ready, and keep the older players looking over their shoulders at who's pushing them.
  8. Everyone on the team’s production faded as exhaustion set in. The Canucks were handed the worst schedule in the league, no practice time on top of no exhibition schedule. It took 6 weeks to integrate new guy’s into the lineup as they were playing multiple 3 games in 4 nights and every 2nd night at best while having a heavier than normal travel schedule to start the season. Pearson has been a 40 to 50 point guy his whole career. The fans on this board have zero understanding of what real exhaustion is, or whatit took to complete the first 6 weeks of this year’s schedule. There’s nothing wrong with the contract or term, there’s just a problem with fans over thinking this and over dramatizing a pretty minor contract. He’s 28 years old, in his prime with lots of experience. Glad he’s still with the team. As far as cap space, Hands up, which fans have spreadsheets mapping out the next 5 years of space needed, because that is what Benning does!
  9. Go see if you can get a meeting with Aqua and show him your extensive experience in running a team, your budget and cap spend projections for the next 5 years and see if he'll give you Bennings job!
  10. You're making a LOT of assumptions, including that we aren't going to make trades, and that we are going to resign Vesey, and Hamonic and you're not taking into account that we will lose someone to Expansion draft. On pretty much every team in this league, Pearson is a middle 6 guy who plays a 200 foot game. Benning tracks everyone he has to resign and knows exactly how much space he needs to do it and assemble the whole team. NO ONE else on here, does. Not me, not you, definitely not anyone in the media!
  11. Nothing wrong with this contract, I'm just glad JB is running this team and not all the people on here, or the media who couldn't get jobs with actual teams above the title of janitor.
  12. Trade for someone. There are teams out there who are in a position where they have extras who will need to be exposed.
  13. I'm sure that we could find someone to sign and expose. Maybe its something that will be addressed in trades at the deadline.
  14. Its being widely reported now that his condition is much worse than originally thought and that he is essentially done for the season and may not be able to continue his career.
  15. I doubt it as well. I think buyout is the most likely option this summer.
  16. Holtby was a good gamble and we needed someone who could step in and provide experience if Demko stumbled. Beagle has been a solid addition to this team. Fans get lost looking at stats, but we are a better defensive team and our penalty kill is better when he's on the ice. The fact that he also won a cup is a good experience factor to have around young players, you can't discount that. He's also one of the best guys on the team in terms of fitness, which teaches young players what it takes to win and helps build good fitness habits.
  17. Benning isn't going anywhere. He's one of the better GM's in the league at drafting and developing young talent. Yes, he makes the occasional mistake, but so does every GM in the league. I would rank Bobrovsky, Yandle, Seabrook, Neal, Perry (was bought out), Skinner, Markstom (there's a lot of risk in that deal and its looking worse as the season goes on), Lucic, Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic (yes, 3 on one team), PK Subban... All of those guys have contracts as bad or worse that Eriksson's, IMO
  18. Just for the record, here's my Protect / expose list for the expansion draft with comments where needed; Protected Forwards: Boeser Horvat Miller Pearson Motte Pettersson Lind Exposed Forwards: Eriksson - PLEASE SEATTLE TAKE HIM!!!!!!! Ferland (no ones going to take him) Beagle (likely out for rest of contract) Roussel - I like him but expendable Virtanen - I think Podkolzin and some others make him expendable Gaudette - I think Lind has a higher top end and is 2 years younger Jasek Palmu MacEwan - I like him, but he's replaceable Gadjovich Defense protect: Myers Schmidt Juolevi Exposed Defense: Teves Brisebois Rafferty - he's 25, Rathbone makes him expendable Sautner Chatfield I would re-sign Edler and possibly Hamonic after the expansion draft. Edler for around 3 million for 1 year, Hamonic for about 1.25 - 1.5. Hamonic has been solid since he got healthy and shook the rust off. Goal: Protect Demko, expose Holtby There is no one on that list, who losing, would hurt us or cause anything more than this forum being up in arms for 24 hours. Every player on that exposed list, we have replacements for on exempt list, or in the coming draft, or an off season that should once again see a surplus of budget friendly players available. On our exposed list for Forwards, there is NO ONE there, who I would place above Pearson in terms of value to the team or in terms of effectiveness on the ice.
