  1. Not sure, I think he needs to show that he can play professional hockey before we jump to putting him in the NHL. Again, that's my opinion, he might show more when put with better players as well.
  2. We are all just speculating on what will happen, I'm sure Benning has better insight than any of us. I still expect that Rathbone will sign with us this spring or summer, depending on their playing schedule.
  3. I think you're taking an "opinion" way too personally.
  4. Hughes is still learning, but he's lightyears ahead of most 20 year olds. OJ will 90% chance make this team out of camp. OJ is a significantly different defense, they drafted him, not to be flashy, they want him to be able to settle things down, that's what he is being groomed for. He's more of the Tanev replacement, but will likely need a year playing 3rd pairing in NHL. Canucks like slowly integrating and let kids show when they are ready for more. I'm not downplaying Rathbones potential, just saying to curb expectations until we see how he handles higher competition.
  5. That's awesome news about Boeser, but we still have LOTS of LTIR. Just check Capfriendly. Markstrom will likely be moved to LTIR, and we still have Leivo and Ferland on there. We can make it work, remember, if we signed Tryamkin today for 3.5 million per, its prorated.
  6. Yes, but rushing guys who really need more time in the AHL, has been proven to be a bad idea, just look at how long it took Edmonton to drag themselves out of the bottom of the league. Guys will show when they are ready, and my point is, we should trust the opinion of their coaches, over that of fans who are just REALLY excited about seeing a new kid making the team. I'm not saying that he won't surprise in training camp, I'm just saying that at this point, Juolevi has been playing trusted minutes in Utica, he's more proven NHL ready.
  7. Yes, we have cap space through LTIR.
  8. His coach has been quoted as saying that he still needs work on the defensive side of his game. I'd rather give him a year to adjust to professional hockey, than rush him.
  9. Rathbone has not passed Juolevi yet. Rathbone is an impressive prospect, but he hasn't even played a single game in the AHL. He's going to be great, but let's be real here. Let's see how he handles playing full time against much faster and stronger opponents.
  10. This is the Canucks, there will ALWAYS be one of them injured.....
  11. This is the only thing preventing him from being in the NHL. Even if it wasn't on the Canucks, we could move him somewhere if he would stay on top of defensive needs.
  12. I would love to see them try Virtanen on penalty kill and play him out a little higher towards the blueline. With his speed, it could disrupt how opposition defense approach setup. We used to do this back in the 90's with Bure, who granted, had a lot more scoring ability on breakaway, but it could rattle them a little.
  13. He won't be a savior, but as I posted in his dedicated thread, if he can reduce shots against from the slot and bring some actual fear to opposition forwards about going into the corners after pucks, I'll be pretty happy. As much as I'd always like to see Canuck prospects having success, really hoping that his season in Russia (and contract) ends on Sunday and that he's signed and here by mid next week and starting to practice with the team. We need to be much harder to play against inside our own blueline, and he's the type of player that can accomplish that without playing dirty.
  14. He doesn't have the offensive skills that Chara does, he's not quite as tall, but he's a stockier build than Chara and, I believe a little heavier. He skates and moves incredibly well for a guy his size, has the overall mobility of a much smaller guy. Have heard that he has a booming slap shot from the point, but that he doesn't use it as much as he should, and that its no where near as accurate as a lot of guys, just raw power. He's never going to put up massive number of points for us, but if he would just produce Lucic teeth marks in the glass at Rogers arena, with a good HARD, clean hit, I would be beyond ecstatic with his being back on the team. I don't care if he puts up more than 5 points a season, if he can only reduce good scoring chances for the opposition from the slot by about 20% and generally make opposition forwards much more afraid to move into the corners in our end of the ice. In past, he's proven that he can do that and he was still very much developing when he was here before. Really looking forward to seeing him back and seeing how he has progressed in the last 3 years.
  15. One more season playing in the KHL, and we will get a REALLY good player, who can jump straight into the lineup. Our Right wing is going to get a nice boost about a year from now.
  16. I've said before, he's not ready for the NHL, I think people are setting unrealistic expectations (as usual), that he's going to jump straight into the NHL and make an impact. However, I'm not sure if he's going to learn much else playing at that level, or if he would be better playing top 4 minutes in Utica and QB'ing the powerplay. Personally, I think he needs a higher level of competition now for development.
  17. We REALLY need this. Someone who will make it hell for opposition forwards to get into the slot for shots.
  18. I'm saying what I "think" will happen, I'm not saying that I think it's a good idea. I think Barrie wants to be here, and I think Benning wants him here. We'll see July 1st, if I'm right.
  19. So, not sure if anyone cares or not, but the system that they are implementing, with the RF tags in uniforms etc, is usually done with Blockchain, the same concept that powers Bitcoin. The information stream that this should provide to the benches in real time will be staggering. Through this, they should be able to measure compete level and speed of players in real time and measure it against historical data as the system builds its database. So, 2 years from now, a coach should be able to look at a player and know that he's moving 8.3% slower than he has the rest of the season, allowing them to make lineup adjustments to make sure that player isn't matched up too much that night with guys who are the real speed guys on the other team. GM's will be able to look at data when negotiating contracts and know exact rate of incline or decline in performance of the guy they are negotiating contract with. Will be awesome once its fully implemented.
  20. Hopefully not TOOO friendly lol
  21. I'm going to hang on to that fantasy, thank-you very much!!!
  22. So, I still think LE will retire this summer as I don't think he'll want to go to Utica for 1 million salary, after his bonus is paid. However, if he doesn't, let's look at this from the standpoint that with the new Cap projection, the floor is going to rise to around 64 million for next year, maybe higher. SO, which team (cough..Ottawa).... likes to save money on what they actually pay out and find creative ways to get to the floor? (cough Ottawa cough cough) After bonus is paid, he's still owed 1 million for next year and 4 million for the final year, average of 2.5 million per season spent, to eat up a full 6 million in space. That's the type of deal that specific teams look for. So, with that in mind: To Ottawa LE 6th round pick 2020 To Vancouver: 7th round pick 2020 Ottawa is about to lose 3 of their LTIR contracts, guys who will never play again. They can easily park Loui in the Pressbox and push themselves over the cap floor with him.
  23. I'm hoping that we can get Toffoli for about 6 per. I would love to have Tanev back for 6 million per, but I still have a feeling that Benning is going to let him walk, sign Barrie and look possibly at Brisebois to fill in as the ever defensive dman. I think they feel that he's ready to take that step next year.
