Another Boeser Deal(Discussion)

I think that type of player would have to be at the center of a trade as well. It would have to be something that absolutely was a slam home right for us. -
Another Boeser Deal(Discussion)
VegasCanuck replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think I'd want more for him as well, Alf, I'm just asking the question of, what it would take for us to trade him. I mean, we're NOT!! ?? But for sake of discussion and speculation (which is what we all love to do on here), what would it take to move him? Minnesota is just one team, there are a number of them out there who would love to have someone who can shoot like he does. We keep seeing unrealistic trade proposals posted for Boeser, Since this specific discussion thread exists, I'm trying to figure out what fans think it WOULD take to pry him from Vancouver. -
Another Boeser Deal(Discussion)
VegasCanuck replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This has nothing to do with fault or anything else. If you read my post, again, I'm not advocating for trading him. I'm just asking if you're Benning, what would it take to convince you to make a deal. When you're building a team, you have to be willing to look at different options that will make your team better, and take emotion out of the decision and look at how a move affects your overall team, not just now, but for the next few years. Willingness to make the "right" move when needed, often sets teams up for future success for years to come. Trading Linden to NYI sucked, but that trade led directly to the success that we had in the early 2000's. It brought us Bertuzzi, McCabe and Ruutu. All of whom became key parts of our team and in the case of McCabe, was a key part of the trading that Burke pulled off to land the Sedins here and set us up for a cup run in 2011. So, getting back to my question and taking emotion out of the picture for a few minutes, what WOULD it take to move him. Not because we want to or have to, but if someone gave us an offer that made it really hard to refuse. Let me ask it this way. At the draft this summer, Minnesota approaches Benning and offers their First Round Pick and Jordan Greenway for Boeser, what's your answer, @bree2 -
Another Boeser Deal(Discussion)
VegasCanuck replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
So, I'm not going to advocate for or against trading Boeser, but I would be open to moving him. Every day, there's another Trade Boeser thread, most are completely unrealistic. Let's ask this, what would it TAKE to convince fans and Benning to move him at this point. I'm looking at the team and thinking the following; #1. Toffoli has slid very easily into Boesers spot on the wing with Pettersson and Miller and is a proven 20 goal scorer when he's not playing with Pettersson. If we could resign Toffoli for roughly Boeser money, say 6 million per, for me, that opens options. #2. Boeser has lost significant number of games each of the last 3 seasons and that kind of makes me a little nervous about his long-term durability. This combined with the fact that he's dealing with family health issues at home with his dad, makes me wonder how much he would welcome a trade that put him much closer to home. #3. We need to have enough depth and enough young talent rolling through the team to ensure longevity and ability to balance performance and cap. Considering how tight the cap is for the next couple of years, it might be helpful if we could turn a 5.875 million cap hit, back into a 925k cap hit for a couple of years. So, with those things in mind, what type of package would fans want to see? If you're Benning, what would make you consider moving Boeser closer to his parents? Again, just curious, not advocating. Personally, I'm open to it, but ONLY in the right overall deal. -
I think you're watching the wrong player, Juolevi is a smooth and strong skater.

As long as he can make us harder to play against. We need to move the puck faster back there, but we also need to make it much harder for guys to get into good scoring position. I think that's where we have issues right now. As good as Markstrom is at handling a high shot volume, we really need to start reducing some of those prime chances for the playoffs. If Tryamkin can make guys think twice about moving down too far, it will make life for Markstrom and Demko, easier. He does that, we have a chance against most teams in the west to at least run a series to 7 games.

The team will change dramatically this summer, we'll have a much better idea of who we can use as bait, once we get through training camp in September. There will be a lot of changes between now and then
-
DiPietro is exempt from the draft. CapFriendly has a nice tool for figuring out who we have to expose. We have LOTS of options.
-
I think for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick, Seattle will take who we ask them to take.
-
He didn't so much as hit him, but rub him out on the boards. But, when its 265 lbs rubbing you out, it can leave a mark....:)

Woo is already signed, so when his season ends, I can't imagine the Canucks not telling him to report to Utica, unless there's an injury issue.

Who are the “magnificent 7” that Benning was referring to?
VegasCanuck replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
I'm sure that we can figure it out, that's the season that the new broadcasting agreement is supposed to kick in and provide more increase to the cap. There's a lot of other guys dropping off, we'll be able to make it work, there's moves that Benning can make. We'll have a number of guys off the books by then as well. Any team that is pushing to be a cup contender, at some point is going to have to deal with balancing numbers. -

Never know how things will develop, but I believe Toffoli can play either wing. If we sign Toffoli long term, does that make Boeser expendable for upgrades in other places? We finally have options, its nice to be finally having discussions that center around having too many good options for a position, I can’t remember that ever happening before in Canucks land, like it is now. -

I think you're missing my point. If a trade makes the team better, would absolutely be willing to trade Jake, although I think a LOT of people on this board, undervalue what he is now bringing to the team. On Boeser, if you read what I wrote, I didn't say that I love the idea, but if there was a deal that put the team in a better overall position 2 or 3 years down the road, while not undermining our current position, I could live with that. The amount of injuries that he's had over the last 3 years are a "little" concerning. A deal to move him though, from my thinking, would have to be a really good, hard to say no, kind of deal. -

I could live with us trading Brock in the RIGHT deal. If Toffoli proves out, we can sign him for roughly what Boeser is signed for, and we can get a couple of really good prospects who are still under ELC, I'm open to the idea. The ONLY reason I'm open to it is, Boeser has had 3 years now where he's been struggling with injury, and its making me concerned about his long-term durability. So, not saying that I love the idea of moving him, but I can understand the appeal of a potential move, if it puts us into a better overall position 2 - 3 years from now, while not hurting our current position. -

No, Kole Lind as a guy that will be on the team in next 2 - 3 years lol -

He said at least, so yes I think your list is accurate, I would definitely add Rathbone to this, and I believe that he is referring to Tryamkin as well. I think he's also indicating Lind in that group. -
Well, and everyone has an opinion on Eriksson. My personal thought on it is, we should tell him that if he can't make the team next season, he WILL be sent to Utica. If I'm Benning, I'd offer him a position with the team if he retires as a sweetener. If the Canucks buy him out, even at league minimum, he'd have trouble finding another team to sign him. He moved his family here and wanted stability while his kids are in school. There are lots of ways that the Canucks can undermine that stability and nudge him in a specific direction, without violating anything. Just my thoughts, but I'd really put more pressure on him.

Trade Deadline Discussion thread
VegasCanuck replied to Toyotasfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Carolina and Tampa did very well on the day. Canucks made really good impact leading up, I think Toffoli is going to be a huge impact for us and I think Benning will find a way to keep him. -
I don't think they know for sure how long he's out yet, I think he's being evaluated and seeing specialists tomorrow and Wed and we should know more by the end of the week. SO, here's to everyone who thought we should trade Demko now and gut our goaltending depth ahead of the playoffs. You never know how the season is going to play and who gets injured. Can never have enough depth in goal, just ask Carolina as well.

Do we know when the deadline press conference is?

Let's wait for the Benning post deadline news conference, he'll give us straight answer on Markstrom.
