  1. They have Bogosian on unconditional waivers to buy him out, you can have him for the price of a contract, probably about 750 - 950k So, Let's figure out a destination for Baerstchi at the deadline, or let him sit till summer, he really doesn't hurt us between now and the end of the year, we have a LOT of LTIR, and if we need to package him during summer, we can. If Benning is sure that he can bring Tryamkin back for the end of the season, when his team is out of the playoffs over in Russia, then lets look at trading Stecher to Toronto or somewhere else that needs defense, sign Bogosian for extra depth and then ride out the playoffs and see where we go. But, no reason to take on his contract, even at 50% retained, and even if it is expiring. Just sign him when they terminate.
  2. Trade Stecher, sign Bogosian for the rest of the season at 1 million, sign Tryamkin when his season ends in Russia. Gives us pretty good depth on the blue line for Playoffs.
  3. Generally agree, but sometimes there's room for some tweaking.
  4. The only way this happens is if Benning has some secret incriminating pictures of Dubas involving sheep and maybe a few midgets (sorry, Little People).
  5. My personal thoughts are, unless there's a deal that pops up that's unbelievable value, he's done on moves that will effect our team immediately. IMO, any other moves will be balancing our prospect pool, looking for opportunities to strengthen areas of weakness from positions of strength. Will not be surprised if he manages to move Baerstchi before the deadline, to a team looking for scoring depth for the playoffs. Could see them try and move someone like David Pope for future consideration, just to free up another contract slot so that he can be aggressive with some of the college free agents and maybe Tryamkin. Could be wrong, but I really don't think he'll do anything more that tweaking here and there around the edges.
  6. Pretty happy with what I saw from Toffoli last night. He was effective for us, and will only get better as he learns how to read Pettersson and Miller. Gotta say, if there was an opportunity this summer to resign Toffoli for something around 5.5 - 6 million, and move Boeser for another really high end ELC prospect, if the deal was right, I wouldn't hate the idea, based on concern about Boeser's long-term durability. He's lost a LOT of games across 3 seasons.
  7. I'm warming up to the idea of moving Boeser, but not as a sweetener in a deal. The reason I'm warming up to it is, I'm concerned about Boeser's long term durability considering how many injuries he's had the last 3 seasons. He's got a lot of missed games. So, if there was a situation where. #1, We resign Toffoli at similar cap hit to Boeser #2, We could move Boeser for either a top 3 or 5 pick in the upcoming draft, or another player of similar potential, who still has another 2 or 3 years left on his ELC, but is ready / proven that he can compete in the NHL now and provide us with greater overall depth. Not saying I love the idea of moving him, but I also saw enough potential in how Toffoli is already fitting in on that line with Pettersson, to see that with the "right" move, we could free up cap space now and put ourselves in position for a really strong playoff push either next season or the one after. For the right deal, I wouldn't hate this.
  8. During summer, sure! Until then, we need Stecher and the depth he provides for playoffs. I think he will be moved, but not until summer, likely at the draft when we can leverage him for a pick or another prospect.
  9. Will be shocked if he plays again this season. I don't think anyone will take a chance on him at 7.6 million. He's been fighting injuries for 2 seasons and now is likely taking a full year off. Players usually don't bounce back that quickly at his age from having a full year of downtime. Figure, there's a 80% chance that if you bring him in, you have a 7.6 million, unmovable boat anchor, tying up your cap space. If you think Eriksson is hard to move, there're a LOT of potential there for an even bigger problem. We are better off signing Tryamkin for physical presence. We know what he can do, and he's only 25 years old and has been playing 20+ minutes a night in the 2nd best league in the world. In terms of NHL ready, he slots in ahead of anyone else we have in Utica, Junior or College. I'm not saying he's the highest ceiling, only that he's our most NHL ready D, not in the NHL.He's already proven 3 years ago that he's NHL ready.
  10. This is partially, who he's being paired with. A lot of fans forget that he's only 18, and playing in a mens league. Until recently, he was limited to very minimal minutes every game. Now that he's got some better linemates, he's starting to produce at a level in line with some of the better players who have come out of Russia. Considering how low his ice time has been in the first 15 to 18 games, his point totals are actually pretty strong. Not many 18 year olds put up 6 points and show as competitive in the KHL. When he arrives here at the end of next season, he's going to have the benefit of 2 full seasons of playing against men in the second best league in the world. If he was in the OHL, I really believe that you'd be seeing better than a point per game production out of him. This kid is going to rock when he gets here!
  11. I think Podz was a top 3 pick, if he wasn't signed forb2 years in the KHL. We got another future Calder trophy competitor.
  12. That's exactly what I'm saying and why I didn't suggest moving a dman. I suggested moving an excess forward, playing in Utica if we need to.
  13. Someone will take him, will be easier in the summer when teams have a little more flexibility. Worst case, we buy him out.
  14. #1. We don't know for sure that we're not bringing Stecher back, complete speculation, although, I'll be surprised if he's back next season, he'll likely be traded. #2. I don't "think" that we'll move any defensive depth before the playoffs, I think Benning likes our depth at that position, and any team that has gone deep into the playoffs will tell you, you have to have depth on defense. If we were to acquire Simmonds, I think the obvious player that would be the center of the trade would be Baerstchi. He doesn't fit into our long-term plans, and he's a position that we have enough depth at. Playoff series are won more by depth at defense than forward, IMO. I think it would be more likely if we did something like: To NJ: Baerstchi 6th or 7th To Van: Simmonds 25% retained Now, I really don't think this will happen as I do think Tryamkin is coming back, and I think that we will save our LTIR space to bring him in.
  15. I would think that Baerstchi would have to be part of any deal going the other way, if we were to acquire Simmonds. Baerstchi, 6th for Simmonds and 2 million retained sounds really fair. NJ gets a late pick and a guy who can help them offensively, right now.
  16. I agree, I keep hoping for Loui to wind up on LTIR lol
  17. I think a year of running the powerplay in Utica, and he will start getting games on injury relief in Vancouver. I think he's actually fairly close as he comes out of College. I would expect him to sign as soon as the season in College is over.
  18. I think he'll be given a really good look in camp, but I think he'll just be one of the first ones on the ladder for call ups. I think he has made significant progress, but I think he still has work to do and that the Canucks will want him playing significant minutes, not just sitting on the 4th line.
  19. I don't think that's accurate at all. Stecher has skill and he's shown that he has heart. He's a very smooth skater, handles the puck well, has a reasonably good shot. The problem is, we have too many other guys in the system who are cheaper, who all play a similar game. If there's any truth to the idea that Tryamkin is serious about coming here, I think there's 2 guys that will likely be moved. I think Stecher gets moved for either prospect or pick, (there will be a LOT of interest if he's on the market), and I don't think Benn will be here next season either. Both of them will be part of the ongoing retooling of our defense. I think the biggest thing with Stecher is that we already have one smaller guy back there (Hughes), who is light years ahead of everyone else in talent. I think Benning wants our defense to be bigger and more punishing, and that equals Tryamkin. I believe signing him and bringing him back is a priority.
  20. Not going to happen, PK is not worth it anymore. 4 years ago, maybe. I think if NJ was offered LE, Stecher and Lind for PK, as long as they didn't have to retain salary, they would jump at it. He's not working there, he's holding them back and that's a BIG salary to eat.
  21. Note to all personnel; We've exceeded our quota of people named Tyler. As a result, all future draft picks or players acquired who are named Tyler must agree to answer to a different name until the backlog resolves itself. From this point forward, all aforementioned acquisitions etc, will hereby and forthwith agree to be known as Roy, which represents a hole in our current naming conventions. Please take all necessary steps necessary to comply. Management would like to thank-you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
  22. Hutton I think of as a different situation. To qualify him, we were close to 3 million and he had arbitration rights which could have pushed his contract to the high 3 million, low 4 million range. The Canucks didn't place that much value in him, they thought he could be easily replaced, and it turns out, they were right. Stecher is a better overall defenseman, can be qualified for under 2.5 million and is from Vancouver and all things being equal, would probably like to stay here. They could likely resign him for 3 - 4 years at 2.5 million per, which for the game Stecher plays, he's an attractive addition for a lot of teams in the league. He skates well, handles the puck well under pressure. Is a little small, but has proven durable and can even fight if needed.
