Its possible, but Stecher at 2.5 million, signed for 4 - 5 years, is a pretty good 4 - 6 D, who can skate, handle the puck well, is fairly tough and durable. All things being equal, I'd rather keep him and if necessary, offer him up with a 3rd rounder to Seattle next summer in the expansion draft. That might actually not be a bad idea and either waive or trade Benn for a later round pick to make room.
-
I think Benning wants the size upgrade on D too much. Stecher is a really good (undervalued) D, but I also wonder if he might be part of a package that Canucks would use to try and replace their 1st round pick this year. Who in the NHL has 20 - 30 range, extra 1st round pick who could use a good quality D as well as maybe another prospect?
-
That's what I'd like him to be at, my gut tells me that Benning really wants him here and that he's going to be around 2.75 - 3.25. I think that if its accurate that he's coming back, it probably spells the end of Stecher in Vancouver, as sorry as I will be to see him leave. If we do add him, its going to make us a much harder team to play against.
-
I actually think there's been something that he's been trying to play through for a few weeks. I think he aggravated it the other night, but I don't think this is new. Felt that something was off with him for a little while now.
-
I agree that he has to some degree, but Dahlin has also had the concussion. Right now, on a redraft, Alf, I'd take Hughes. I just think that it will take a couple of years to see how their full skill sets really evolve. Hughes is, without a doubt, the most talented defenseman that we've ever had. We know however, defense sometimes develop at different levels. I think both are going to have long careers. Without a doubt, we got the one with the best offense. I still think Juolevi is going to be a really solid top 4 for us, even though its taken him a long time to get here.
-
Although I think Hughes would easily be top 3 in a redraft, I don't think its quite that easy yet. Dahlin has an incredibly high ceiling as well and plays a very different style. Although I admit, its possible that we may have gotten the best player out of that draft, I think it will really be another couple of years before we really see which of these two guys is separating from the other in terms of overall league performance.

What you say is true, but there's only one league where he can compete for the Stanley Cup. If he is interested in pushing his game as far as he can push it, Vancouver is a team that will ALWAYS spend to the cap if there is an opportunity to make the playoffs and compete. He came to the draft when he originally met with / was interviewed by the Canucks. This is a guy that wants to compete in the NHL. I think he'll be back, for next season if not before.

Kassian kick Cernak in the Chest - Now with Poll

I really think he needs something in the 11 - 20 range. This was an incredibly dangerous action. He had time to think before he acted, and no matter what he says, this wasn't just a matter of him trying to get his leg free. It was already free, he kicked out in frustration and anger. It doesn't take that much of an impact to do serious damage, especially if Cernak shifted suddenly and got hit in the throat. IF that happened, Kassian would be facing criminal charges, not just a suspension. I'll be disappointed if they give him less than 10, but I have a feeling they will. -

Added a poll to this, thought it was relevant to see not only what people think he deserves, but how accurate we are on what he actually gets. -
I'd pass on it. Would love to have Dobson, but we have good prospect depth on defense right now, Jake's speed and fore checking would be harder to replace right now. He's playing well, turning into the effective player that we were hoping for, let's try just hanging on to him and see how high he can go!
-
You don't necessarily rely on anyone, you keep developing guys who can fill in for any role. That's what makes teams successful in the playoffs, the ability to replace at any position, with someone else who is able to do the same job. Motte has lots up offensive upside, but he's really focused at playing that energy game that can change the whole flow on the ice.

[Waivers] Zach Bogosian

Wow, I guess no one wanted him even as a security rental. And, the report was that he asked for a trade. -

Wonder if he's ever going to be able to resume playing or if this is retirement for him now. Has been a great player, at least he's still alive! -

Happy to hear that they are taking it seriously, even though there was no injury. -

Its kind of like when his defense to swinging his stick and breaking Gagner's jaw was, "Didn't mean to..." "Sorry, was swinging my hockey stick around wildly and didn't realize your head was there....." -

Again though, as stated, its intent in this case. If you shoot at someone with a gun and miss them, you're no less guilty. -

Yeah, this line says it all: “He kicked me right in the chest, so luckily that wasn’t higher,” Cernak told reporters after the game, a 3-1 Tampa victory over the Oilers. “I knew right away when he was on the ice he kicked me. I think he was a little bit mad and I asked him what was wrong with him, because that’s not a right play to do on the ice, and he didn’t say nothing.” -

TSN now reporting on it as well and they also believe that this is an automatic suspension for Kassian https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/is-supplementary-discipline-on-the-way-for-kassian-yet-again~1898525 -

Makes you think, maybe hit in the head too many times. Watching him play in Vancouver was incredibly frustrating. Sometimes, I'd watch him and think "Wow, he really has the skill set to become the player that Bertuzzi was for us." Other times, I'd be watching him float aimlessly without back checking, just hanging out at center ice and I'd be thinking, "wow, he really has the habits to become the player that Bertuzzi became for us...." -

Considering his past suspensions and questionable plays and hitting: - Was suspended for 20 games in Junior for a hit to the head - After the Memorial Cup, he was arrested and charged with assault from an incident in a bar - Junior conference finals, was suspended for 3 games for Intent to Injure - Suspended for 8 games for breaking Gagner's jaw with careless swinging of stick - Was suspended by Montreal for crashing his truck while under the influence - Was suspended for 2 games in International play for hit to the head - Was just recently suspended for 2 games for the fight Tkachuk (didn't think he actually deserved this one) I'm sure I've missed at least one or two. Some guys just don't learn, and kicking with a skate takes things to a whole new level. I'd give him 10+ -

I don't know if it makes contact, but the kicking motion is really clear, he doesn't have sneakers on, he's looking right at him, really, really bad. This was one of those, WTF was he thinking moments, that make me glad Benning moved him. I've watched it a few times, I think it gets worse for me every time I see it. The first time was like, I can't really be seeing this right. But no, he REALLY does kick! -

Agree completely, makes you wonder if he's gone off the wagon on substance abuse again. He's had some really bad incidents over the years, breaking Gagner's jaw with careless swinging his stick etc, but this was incredibly deliberate, not a lot of grey area in this. If I was the NHL, kicking someone in the chest with a REALLY sharp skate, I'd be considering done for the season.
