I wouldn't rule this out. I personally think that he was still suffering from the effects of the concussion he had last season, when we got into preseason. I think that's why he got another so easily. As much as I'd love to see him back and playing for the Canucks, sometimes the body is giving you warning signs that you need to listen to.

I agree completely. I just hope that he finds the durability to be a good bottom 6 guy for us. Love his compete level, but really concerned about how many injuries he's sustained against younger competition. It makes me worry about how he will survive against much bigger NHL defense.

[Proposal] ANA - VAN Trade Deadline
VegasCanuck replied to Junkyard Dog's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think @Alflives is right and that Eriksson will walk away this summer, once his bonus is paid. I think Eriksson knows that if he tries to stay another season, its likely going to be in Utica, and after his 3 million bonus is paid this summer, he's only walking away from 5 million. I think there's a good chance that he will retire from the NHL and look at finishing his career in Sweden if he still wants to play any further. -
None of this “should” make a difference. What I was proposing was, a standard, automatic system. Players know if they are hitting late, its not hard to spot on replay. So, don’t do a system where there are any other variables other than, was the contact, clearly accidental. If not, the fines or suspension should be automatic.

I think if I was Reinhart, I'd probably tell the team that I wouldn't resign with them next summer, so trade me! Saying blow the team up is easier said than done. Eichel, Reinhart and Dahlin are about the only guys worth what they are being paid. That's not a good position to be in to make trades. Skinner at 9 million??? 6.5 - 7 per season was a reach for him, but I also understand the position that the team was in going into negotiations with him. Proven ability to score 35 - 40 goals per season is hard to find in the league. Looking through their lineup, other than the 3 guys I've mentioned, who would you want to trade for? Or, is this a case of everyone is so unhappy in Buffalo, that they are under performing in protest? I think the ONLY thing they can do at this point is tell everyone who I didn't list, to be ready to be moved at the deadline. Tell Johansson and Frolik to submit their list of teams and retain wherever necessary to get picks / prospects for next season.

(Spitballing) Trade deadline predictions
VegasCanuck replied to PhillipBlunt's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think we trade Baer for a late round pick and then stand as we are, as far as the main team is concerned. I think they will keep Benn as insurance and probably look at moving him during summer. I don't think we need any major trades, and I don't think Benning does either. Just tweaking, could see some prospects moved around, just balancing moves. I think we need to shed at least one contract for College targets. -
Its not easy finding guys who can both fight and play these days. Ferland can, but not sure that he should anymore, when / if he returns. We're still kind of missing that Dorsett type of player, who will drop and go with anyone, at any time, but can still play the game as well.
-
Couldn't hurt to try, needs to be something that curbs this. Not saying my suggestion is perfect, just one take of many. The league really doesn't want players taking things into their own hands, but then is completely impotent on doing anything effective.
-
Not a bad solution, but this will really bog down the game as well.
-
I like that solution, but I think implementing something that directly penalizes the action as well from the NHL, might make guys think twice before they make the hit in the first place.
-
Yes, 2 minute Interference penalty should have been called. No, he didn't get drilled into the boards, but as you mention, he was off balance and there was no reason for the contact in the first place. It was a hit that was far later than one that happened in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011. The only difference is, Pettersson was not injured on the play, and the player making the hit was a member of Boston. I'm not saying the hit was anywhere near as aggressive as the one Rome did, but I still say the hit that Rome did was a basically clean play and the hit resulted from North/South momentum. This was riding someone into the boards just because, and we've all seen guys get injured from exactly this type of hit. Especially when they are "Off balance" in the first place.
-
In a perfect world, teams would still have the ability to police this for themselves. If you do, then you wind up hurting your own team, being called for retaliation. Its a completely screwed up system.
-
Would be awesome, but we know that won't always happen, sometimes because of line of sight, sometimes just because the play is moving fast. There will always be situations where things get missed on ice.
-
Hopefully, if injury results, they will take appropriate action. I know that's asking a lot lol

Yes, I know, stupid of me

Was listening to Green's talk after the game about the late hit on Pettersson, the NHL really needs to reign this in. They don't want players taking matters into their own hands, but they aren't really doing anything to punish players who do it consistently. So, defining how late a hit is, let's say anything that happens 2 seconds or more after the player releases the puck. This game moves fast and sometimes refs might miss how late a hit actually is, so they aren't going to catch it every time. My thoughts and proposal are; 1st infraction: $2000 fine (yes, that's peanuts to most of these guys) 2nd infraction: $5000 fine 3rd infraction: 1 game automatic suspension 4th infraction: 2 game automatic suspension 5th infraction: 4 game automatic suspension The infractions are based on per season totals and are regardless of any on-ice calls on the play. I know this will never happen, the NHL likes to pay lip service to the idea of taking head shots and late hits out of the game, but something like this needs to happen if they want guys actually thinking before they throw a late hit.

You're talking 2 games, one we were very much in, one where we were exhausted, 3 games in 4 nights. We are still one of the hottest teams in the last 5 weeks, and you are never going to win all of them. There's ALWAYS going to be games that you are out of, happens to every team in the league. There will always be a fatigue factor at some point in the season. Now, that said, I would very much like to see Bailey get into a game and see how he performs. I think he has the core talent, hoping that he's finally putting it together at an NHL level. MacEwen, we already know that he can hold his own in the NHL.

(Proposal) Nucks - Jackets
VegasCanuck replied to KnuckleHead16's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Okay, so you're aware that although his cap hit is 6 million, but that his actual take home salary is now substantially less than that, right? So, as a team, they eat up much more cap space than they actually have to spend. -

I don't think Columbus is fully into rebuild mode either, but they do have cap space, which is a rare commodity in the NHL right now. Personally, you're probably right about Ottawa being a better target for this type of trade, but since this is a Van - Columbus trade thread, I thought I'd present something that I thought might benefit both teams. Considering Columbus lost about 13 million last year, and that they are still recovering from pushing hard last year, they might appreciate a couple of extra draft picks and a player who is defensively responsible and who eats up a significant portion of cap but doesn't cost much in hard dollars. Would let Eriksson burn out the last 2 years of his contract. -
I think he is our starter in Utica. I think the main reason that both guys have played about the same number of games is, at the start of the season, it took a few weeks for DiPietro to establish himself as the starter and then he spent some time in Vancouver when Demko was injured. So, yes, I think Utica will lean on DiPietro more through the last 1/3rd of the season.
-
For the most part, we have been playing exceptional hockey for the last 4 or 5 weeks and performing incredibly well as a team, and you want to make changes to that? Everyone is doing their job, even Eriksson, which is a really nice surprise. I would love to see what Bailey can do, but not until the current run ends. You don't mess with a winning formula, you change things when you're losing. Lind, will likely get some games next year, but he's still young and developing..

How about: To Columbus: Eriksson 2020 4th round pick 2021 2nd round pick To Vancouver: 2020 5th round pick In summer, we find a new home for Baerstchi, either by retaining 25% of his current contract for his remaining year, or we buy him out with a cap hit of 1.767 for 20/21 and 800k for 2022. Problem solved on any perceived cap space issues. -
From the clips I've seen, the report I heard is absolutely correct, he could be running the power play in Utica right now. Kid looks awesome out there. His skating is way above average.

[Proposal] Mental Exercise: Boeser for Brady Tkachuk
VegasCanuck replied to Maddogy's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This is a hard one to call. Would definitely give us more snarl up front, but Boeser could easily settle into a 40 goal a year guy. I actually don't think the Ottawa would make this trade. Part of the reason is, they are trying to keep salary really low for now.
