[Proposal] VAN signs UFA Motte
VegasCanuck replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
It was widely rumored that the Canucks tried to extend Motte before trading him. It was believed that Canucks were offering something around 1.5 million and that Motte wanted something north of 2 million, which lead to him being flipped for a 4th round pick. Motte and his agent, badly misread available cap to spend this off season. My guess is, he either signs for something closer to 950k range, or winds up taking a chance on the KHL, something not many players are doing right now with the war in Ukraine. -

If Motte could get anything north of 1.5 million, he would already have signed somewhere. Look around, there’s a lot of guys still looking for work. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman

I'm interested in seeing how he performs under new coaching and without concussion symptoms. -
Chicago is committed to rebuilding, quantity of players does nothing for them although, they would recognize that we would need to balance cap space. I don’t recommend at any level that we go after him, but if you want to, with the package you offered, you are including at the minimum, our 2023, 1st round pick and our 2024 2nd round to start the discussion. Chicago would likely insist that we give them our 2024 1st round pick instead of a second. So, ask yourself, is Jones worth that to us?

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I mean, it's nuts, right? Malkin turns 36 in 2 days and they just signed him to a 4 year extension and Letang is 35 and they just signed him for 6 more years. With Letang though, they are doing really similar to what I suggested with Miller. The last 2 years are much smaller actual dollar value with 1 million salary and 3.8 million in signing bonus so that it's more attractive for a team that's cash strapped and wants to get to the cap floor. Final year, they could trade him and give a team 6.1 million cap hit for 1 million in actual money paid out. It happens and there are always teams around the NHL, especially as the cap starts to rise again, who look for those contracts. -

Guys, I'm really starting to get a little concerned here.... We have barely filled 8 pages on this thread in the last 24 hours! I mean, how the hell are we going to break 2000 pages if too many of you are just not that committed to page count? At this pace, we're talking about 120 days to get there, almost to Xmas! Now, Normally, I wouldn't say anything, but I have it on really good authority, that Steven Spielberg is looking at turning this thread into a documentary and REALLY needs us to pickup the pace again. Could you all just try a little harder to post more frequently? It doesn't matter if it's not related, 2/3rds of this thread are utter rubbish, especially the stuff from ME!!! So, come on guys, get your back into it and get those fingers typing. Browse Hockeybuzz.com if you can't think of something to say, or listen to Fox News. Both are completely acceptable resources for coming up with complete and total crap that you can use to just fill page after page of this thread until, maybe, one day, something will actually happen. The management appreciates your efforts! -

Here we go: yr 1: 10.5 million Full NMC yr 2: 10 million Full NMC yr 3: 10 million Full NMC yr 4: 7 million NTC submits 15 team no trade list yr 5: 7 million NTC submits 15 team no trade list yr 6: 6 million (4 million signing bonus, 2 million salary) NTC submits 15 team no trade list yr 7: 6 million (5 million signing bonus, 1 million salary) NTC submits 8 team no trade list yr 8: 5.5 million 4 million signing bonus, 1.5 million salary) NTC submits 8 team no trade list 62 million contract, 7.75 million cap hit average Structure of final 3 years, gives the Canucks the option to pay the signing bonus and leave another team (Arizona or whoever is struggling) with a cheap option to max out the cap floor. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In all seriousness. I think Miller will be traded once Kadri is off the market. I think there is a small number of East Coast teams who need to upgrade their offense but they are all waiting to see what's going to happen with Kadri. I think the Canucks will be extremely happy with the return that they get, but that it will be less then fans want / are expecting. -

Sorry guys, it's a Friday afternoon, I don't feel like working, it's hot outside, I'm bored and I thought...Hey, let's yanks some chains, piss a whole bunch of fans off and see how badly I can get flamed! Yes, I'm an Asshole and full of $&!#... Sorry, return to what you were doing...Miller is still with the team! -

Keeping Horvat is a better long-term idea. Would love to keep Miller if he's willing to take a reasonable rate for 8 years, 7.5 - 7.75 million with really loose NTC for the last 3 years. That would be 62 million based on 7.75 for Miller, and I think he would have a really hard time getting to that total dollar value on 7 years as a UFA. I actually think there's a really good chance that we sign Miller based on the fact that he has a lot at risk if he goes into his contract season without an extension. If he struggles with injury or anything, it undermines his negotiating position and market value. Horvat is a far more defensively aware player than Miller. You need both components to go deep in the playoffs. -

Pettersson is a higher end overall player than Horvat. Not trying to discount what Horvat brings to the table, but when Pettersson is on his game and rolling like he was for the last 1/3 or the season, he's an elite player and drives offense in a way that few other players can. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
On the open market, a guy who gets 25 - 30 goals per season. He has a faceoff percentage that is in the top of the league and last season took the 2nd most faceoffs in the entire league. Plays the powerplay, kills penalties, solid defensively, can be trusted to close out a game, had 52.4% winning percentage last season in the defensive zone. Open Market, he's 7 years, 7.75 - 8 million per. It's not easy to find centers with his numbers. -

I'd try and shoot for 8 years and get rid of the NTC or a 8 to 10 team NTC in final year and try and get the average down a little under 7 million, maybe something like 6.80 - 6.90 average. He'll only be 28 when it kicks in, I'd offer him first 3 years with full NMC then 3 more with 15 team NTC and last 2 with 8 team NTC. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He can't stop them from trading him anywhere, as long as the receiving team understands that he has control over who he resigns with. It gives him a fair amount of control as very few teams will give up the type of assets we want, before the deadline, without assurances that they can extend him. What we might be able to hypothetically do is, something like where we were to trade him...let's say for argument sake, to NJ for Severson and Mukhamadullin and a conditional 1st round pick. Condition being, he signs an extension with NJ. I still say, NJ is our ultimate trading partner, but they won't do anything until Kadri is off the market. -

I'd say drafting Pettersson and Hughes have been pretty high up there as well. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Can happen with any player. 2018/19 - played all 82 games 2019/20 - played all 69 games before season pause 2020/21 - played all 56 games of the Covid shortened season 2021/22 - played 70 games before hurting his ankle blocking a shot. So, all told, missed 12 games in the last possible 289 games. That hardly constitutes any issues with injuries. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You know, it is possible that part of the issue on trading him is, that other teams are having sticker shock on what Miller wants as next contract and are backing away due to that. You look at the fact that Kadri hasn't signed a long term deal right now, the money isn't out there, and its not going to get significantly better next summer. Look at Toronto for next summer. They have 7 guys hitting UFA, they only have 12 currently signed and they will have roughly 15 million after the increase to fill out 10..ish spots. -

The money is not there right now, and next summer isn't going to really help. Teams got a break last summer with Seattle coming into the league and taking a bunch of players. -

It's all about the knees. His mobility was an issue in his last year here. He had great mobility when he was drafted, but I think the surgeries took a toll on his ability to pivot effectively. I don't hold any illusion that he is a failed prospect, I just don't hold the fact that he failed against him, Benning or the scouting staff. You can't anticipate injuries that occur after you draft a player. It would be like trying to hold Dave Nonis accountable for drafting Luc Bourdon (RIP). Management can only draft based on the talent level and if there's multiple players with really close talent level, then you draft based your overall need. We needed a D with the potential to become a dependable shutdown guy for us, what happened after he was drafted was unavoidable. -
So is the available cap space around the league lol
