ESPN seems to be the one main thing in the US. I use a series of systems depending on where I am at any one time.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Would love to keep him, but I think the only way we get to high 7's is to offer 8 years, using last 2 years to balance the overall cap hit. Now, if we could accomplish that where in the final 2 years, Miller has, let's say a 5 to 8 team no trade list, or completely remove NTC in the final 2 years so we could potentially shuffle him off to whoever the Arizona Coyotes dumping ground for contracts with higher cap hit than actual pay is, then I'd be good with it! There are guys who maintain compete level into their later 30's, but they are far and few between. Most players are finished their useful, high value term by about 35. -
Everyone is saying that they are still going to be competitive. They are bringing in at least one guy who's a UFA next summer, who I don't think wants to be in Calgary....at ALL. I will not be surprised if they miss the playoffs next season with all the upheaval. Their only hope is Markstrom winning the Vezna.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
VegasCanuck replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Eastern teams like NJ, NYI, NYR, Carolina, Philadelphia etc, all need to keep pace with the Panthers now. There are still trade partners out there for us. -
I don't see Calgary keeping these guys, Tkachuck was 24, entering his prime, they are well into their prime and about 3 to 4 years from beginning to decline. If we assume that the real effective career span of a player is 15 years, Tkachuck was 1/3rd into his effective career, these 2 guys are 2/3rds through. Calgary needs to flip them at the deadline for high end picks and prospects, its the only real way to salvage this long term.

Nobody knows for sure what a potential deadline deal may have been, it's all media speculation, nothing more. No GM on either side is going to admit to which players were offered. Fans need to stop taking rumors as facts. -

Any way you look at it, Calgary is a diminished team next season. -
[Signing] Jets re-sign Pierre-Luc Dubois

Basically guaranteeing himself that he will be traded. If not, he could just as easily sign his QO next year and put himself in position to be a UFA. -
A Contender Now! (proposals)
VegasCanuck replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Okay, let me take a shot at breaking this down. First trade, Hughes to Pulock, Pageau and 2023 1st. - Value wise, probably pretty close to what we would be looking for, I think NYI would be looking more like Pulock and a 2023 1st and maybe another pick. The bigger problem on this trade is, Pulock is just starting a brand new contract that has a full NTC that he negotiated to stay in NY, so I don't see this trade going past that. Second trade, Elias Pettersson (1.0 I'm assuming) Hoglander and Poolman to Arizona for Chychrun, Crouse and 2024 1st - Not enough value for Pettersson, coupled with the fact that Arizona has no use for him. The only reason that Arizona has to trade a player like Chychrun is because they know that they will not be even remotely, a competitive team until the 2024/25 season at the earliest. Until they get into their new building, they aren't interested in being more than a cap floor team and will take end of life contracts that have a bigger hit than actual dollars attached, and collect picks in exchange for doing it. They have ZERO interest in shipping out high end picks right now, only accumulating them. Arizona is going to be a scary team in about 3 - 4 years based on their strategy, but until then. unless they have a plan to flip a player like Pettersson for another high end pick or a series of them, they wouldn't touch this trade. Sign Klingberg 7 x 7.25 - probably fair value and pretty close to what I think he will sign for. He's waiting on someone to make room for him, IMO, and it might be the Canucks but really hard to know for sure. Sign Tyler Motte 3 x 1.5 is probably a little steep. I think Motte is finding out his value isn't as high as he thought and would probably take pretty close to what Canucks paid him last season, 1.2 at this point. Sign Lammikko 3 x 1.5, see point about Motte, I think if someone put 900k one way in front of him right now, he'd probably take it Trade Pearson for a 2023 3rd, probably close to value, but he's probably worth closer to a 2nd. He's on a really cap friendly contract, provides .5 points per game like clockwork, is defensively sound and does a lot of the intangibles that you need on a team to be a winner. Is currently about the most disrespected guy on the team, because he plays a quiet, non flashy game, but performs pretty much every night and is a leader on and off the ice. Trade Dickenson plus 2025 2nd for futures - Canucks would never do this with a guy who has performed every season but had a really rough start in Vancouver. They will be patient and let him come back and have a chance to restart in camp with coach BB and get himself back to being the sound defensive player that Benning traded for. Him having a bounce back year is much more likely than him sliding further. Trade Myers for 2024 2nd - Fair value if we have someone coming in who plays solid RD, is younger etc... Sorry to deflate your bubble on this, but I don't see a lot in your proposal that's achievable for the reasons I've mentioned. -

McDonough isn't signing a pro contract until late March. We have a bargain on Pearson, he's not going anywhere this summer unless it's part of a bigger trade. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I think if Miller was will do 56 million across 8 years, I think it would be done already. Fans just need to remember that the risk to Miller, to go into next season without an extension signed, is real. One bad injury causing recurring concussion etc, and he'll be lucky to sign next summer for more than a couple million to see if he can regain his game. He is far safer having something done and the Canucks could be using that as leverage, which might have been the reason for his agents post the other day about seeing a path to extending with the Canucks. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Making moves for the sake of making moves is really not a proven strategy. We don't want to move Miller below market value, if we are in fact, moving him. As we get closer to camp, Miller's camp might make more concessions on long term contract. Pressure is not just on Vancouver to get something done. The possibility of Miller getting injured and reducing his trade value in season has only been discussed on this board from one side. The other side of that coin is, if he could lock up a contract of 8 years at a cap hit of say 7 - 7.5 million, he has long-term income stability. If he was to get injured in his contract year, he could just as easily wind up forfeiting a 60 million ...ish contract. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

So, a few things to consider and remember; 1. New management team hasn't even been here a full year yet and admittedly, they have been left with a really tight cap situation to try and sort out. 2. Most teams are in similar cap situations, trying to find ways to move players out to make room to add other guys, potentially guys like Miller and that takes time, and its very unlikely we would move Miller to a team in the West. I think if traded, Miller will decline to sign extension with a team if it's not in the East. 3. Tkachuk is now actively on the market and will likely be moved to an eastern team as Calgary won't want to have him in the West. For the moment, this complicates #2 for us. 4. Assuming Tkachuk is moved to the East, it puts MORE pressure on other teams in the East, to try and upgrade offense to match whichever team grabs Tkachuk, which could make Miller more valuable, especially considering his cap hit next season. 5. Remember that JR is a VERY patient guy, and will wait for the best possible trade scenario, and patience is something that Canuck fans are REALLY not very good at. More changes are coming, we need to make a move to adjust for cap, unless we're planning on seeing if anyone gets injured in camp and running the season on LTIR, which is something that JR has stated he really doesn't like. He prefers to have cap flexibility within the roster.
