  1. Literally, these guys have sooo much income still coming in, paying them NOT to play, this could literally be them. Stay home drink beer...
  2. So, Kyle Turris and Matt Duchene were once major pieces in the same trade. Am I the only one who finds it funny that after paying SOOOO much in that trade, Nashville is now carrying both Turris and Duchene as buyouts? Over 29 million in dead cap across 6 years, paying 2 guys who were part of that blockbuster trade, NOT TO PLAY FOR THEM AGAIN???
  3. Duchene would be an interesting center option for a couple of years....
  4. Everyone complaining about how much we're tying up in dead cap space with buyouts... Nashville, "Here, hold my beer..."
  5. I'm only doing round one, I would have gone with either the guy we did pick or ASP, possibly Wood. We didn't need another winger, we needed either a really good future RD, or more depth at center. You round out other positions as you move deeper into the draft, you address positional issues with guys who are more likely going to make the NHL. We made the right choice as far as I'm concerned.
  6. So, Management is poking Pesce, CDC is poking Management....let's see if anything gets done
  7. Possible....and, they want all the first round picks that they'll get from moving EK, to give to us for Myers....
  8. With all the noise out there that the Canucks have a trade option with San Jose, they may be waiting to verify that they are going to be able to sign who they want in the UFA market before they take steps to free up the 6 million cap hit. If their target falls through, then it doesn't make sense to push to move him.
  9. I agree. Personally, I think we're better off to sit with him until his 5 million bonus is paid and then see if we can move him at the deadline. I don't see any advantage to us to add assets to allow us to move someone unless there is a significant upgrade available through free agency and at the moment, I don't really see it. Roll into camp with the team essentially as it is now and be ready to send someone with a bloated contract to the AHL for now. Myers isn't that bad when he's setup with the right structure and pairing. See what Gonchar and Foote can do to create the structure we want defensively. Myers showed at the worlds that he can still play and be effective.
  10. Things to consider... In Arizona, they were really shallow on forward depth and he was playing top 6 minutes every night, almost 18 minutes per game on average. He was relied upon to be one of their main offensive tools. In Vancouver, he's been playing closer to mid 14 - 15 minutes a night as we have more top level offense. His role shifted a little to being cast in a role of middle 6 energy and 2nd unit power play as opposed to first unit power play. Based on that, his production hasn't really fallen off and it did pickup once we changed coach to Tocchet. He also was extremely effective at the Worlds where he was again used more as a regular offensive tool. Is he overpaid, probably, he should have been closer to the 3.75 - 4 million range, but as with most GM's when they are negotiating contracts with guys who are approaching UFA, they are buying years of UFA service and they rely on the idea that with a rising cap, that the contract will look better about 1/2 way through and forward than it looks in year 1 and 2. This wasn't just a Benning thing, this is ALL GM's in the NHL do this. GM's all go nuts on July 1st and start signing contracts that shouldn't be signed. Once that starts, his numbers and overall capability will come into play and there should be a market for him. Right now, I'm sure that teams are doing bargain shopping as most teams are constrained on cap and the few that aren't are trying to weaponize that as much as possible. The end of the day, fans need to remember that as we sit now, we are a cap compliant team. There's not a hell of a lot of players that we should be targeting in free agency, and at forward, Garland is likely better than anyone we could win a bidding war on. We may very well decide to roll into camp with few other changes other than buying out OEL and adding a couple of depth pieces, knowing that EVERY YEAR, there will be more cap flexibility as players in Vancouver and players around the league encounter injuries which force teams to be more aggressive in what they do to trade for players that they can plug holes with. Happens every year without exception. So, I have no problem seeing this team just sit pat and wait it out till Camp and see how the team is unfolding once they get back on ice. We don't HAVE to do ANYTHING!
  11. Garland's contract will become more valuable and more attractive as we move into free agency. There's not a lot of guys available who will offer cost certainty for another 3 years, capable of offense and being a PITA to play against who teams can sign for under 5 million. We don't need to dump or attach assets, we just need to do something that Canuck fans are REALLY bad at. Exercise patience!
  12. It's actually interesting how quiet everything is around Tryamkin. He's a UFA already in the NHL, any team could sign him today, but there's no one talking about him that I've seen... Other than us I mean... lol
  13. I think Podz made pretty good progress on his overall game this last season. Improved his overall habits. My guess is, he will be full time with Vancouver this next year, after a good off season of training.
  14. This was a really pretty boring draft this year. No team really pulled off a landmark, roster changing trade, was a lot more fringe moves and changes.
  15. 6th round, Canucks found out that he was actually eligible that year for draft and picked him. He would likely have been the 1st overall the next season. The draft room went nuts when the Canucks called him, some GM's started moving up to the stage as everyone thought he wasn't eligible to be drafted. Teams were PISSED and I still think this is part of why Canucks never do well in anything else with the league, including the draft lottery.
  16. To be fair, the chances of a 2nd round pick making an impact in the NHL (100+ game career) is about 30%. Also to be fair, Kirill Koltsov I believe had a good career in Russia once he bolted back there and Yann Sauve did get hit by a car. I never understood the Mallet pick, Gillis could have had him in the 7th round if he wanted.
  17. Now, some centers in the 4th round...
  18. Focus on Defense and Centers...that's our main areas of deficiency in current prospect pool...
  19. So past the fist 2 or 3 picks, EVERY kid in this draft are wait and see prospects... There are NO guarantees in the draft.
  20. CDC reflecting 3 years out on the performance of the guy THEY wanted management to pick...
  21. The human brain doesn't reach full development until into 20's, and everyone loses their shit if a prospect doesn't pan out, no matter what the reason is.
