  1. We are a little over cap when we factor Poolman (not sure if his concussion symptoms have gone away or if he will be LTIR) and Hoglander. We will make a trade before the season starts that will shake up our defense a little. The only real question is who and when.
  2. This is what I keep saying, so many fans seem to think that we MUST trade him now for whatever we can get for him. His value is the same, it's not diminishing, just our fans are HORRIBLE negotiators waiting to be taken advantage of in life ....
  3. So, look at the bright side of this; By the Trade Deadline, we should be able to have this thread topping 3000 pages, MAYBE 4000!
  4. Agree with you, keep in mind, my post wasn't about who our perfect trading partner is, just who I "think" he likes as a team.
  5. I think there are likely 4 or 5 teams that he would negotiate a fair extension with (total speculation). Before the 13th, they weren't actually allowed to do extensions, but they can now. The teams that I think he would do an extension with and this is under assumption that we do actually move forward with a trade: Pittsburgh Philadelphia Rangers Devils I could be completely wrong, but I think those are the teams he's interested in finishing his career with.
  6. Only if Marcus agrees to change his name to Elias Jr Jr
  7. Kadri says, sorry, but I really believe I'm worth more than that if I'm moving to another city, especially one with a much steeper tax bracket than what I'm paying now.
  8. Agree completely, I do believe that's what killed the negotiations with NYI, Miller's side may very well have an inflated number for teams he doesn't want to sign long term with.
  9. The only people who thought it was the best time to trade Miller are guys in the media, who are just slightly above the guy who mops out the team locker room every day in terms of how seriously an actual team owner would view them as realistic candidates to act as GM for an actual NHL Team. If Miller's contract was ending this summer, as was Tyler Motte, then sure, you move him at the deadline and you negotiate with the 1 or 2 teams who can actually create the cap space to take him and get the best deal you can. If you've got a FULL year before his contract expires, you take your time and wait for summer when you have 5 to 7 teams who REALLY need him and you work the phones with them and you find a solution that fits both teams. Those negotiations sometimes involve teams like Arizona and Seattle, who have space and are looking to improve by taking on a contract that you need to move to make room for someone who makes your team better. This summer IS the best time to move him, he has a full year left on a REALLY good cap hit, he's verging on being a 100 point guy. We could wait till next trade deadline, but I really don't believe that we will, we'll be back to not just 1 or 2 teams that can afford him, but then we really are into a position of him being a rental player.
  10. This is a decision that ANY good manager would make. There was ZERO urgency to move Miller at the deadline, they felt that he would have better value in the summer and they are probably right in that. Miller isn't walking away in free agency next week, he's under a REALLY good contract for another year. WHY would you undermine your own trading position by panicking and accepting a trade that you don't believe is in the best long term interest of the team if there's zero urgency to do so. JR is a patient guy, that's why he managed to build a really solid team around a couple of star players. We have similar setup right now to what Pittsburgh had years ago, we have a solid core of really good talent (Pettersson, Hughes and Demko). The right additions and subtractions to those 3 guys, at the right time, can take this team to the cup. Everyone needs to calm down and stop thinking short term. The teams that NEED Miller are coming into better focus as Free Agency settles down into the Summer. I believe that Miller will be gone by the time camp opens, but that trade and the moves necessary by other teams to make a trade with us for Miller are likely still in motion and take time to negotiate and execute. This isn't EA NHL, things aren't instant in real world, management structure or in a league of 32 teams with multi-team dynamics to consider.
  11. Partially because he didn't replace the team President and let Benning have too much control and not enough around him. So, I want you to stop and think about what you're suggesting; Please keep the following in mind, while you are thinking about it: Jim Rutherford was essentially living in retirement when Aqualini asked him to run the team. He has multiple cup rings from running a team in the NHL, he's an accomplished and proven builder of teams and has nothing to prove. So, with the above in mind, you REALLY think that Aqualini went to Rutherford's home, something that Rutherford has stated publicly that he was impressed that this billionaire showed up, essentially hat in hand. Tells him that he needs someone who is a proven leader and team builder to move to Vancouver at the age of 73, uproot his retirement to build a management team and structure that will keep the Canucks competitive and have them as a consistent playoff contender for years to come. Offers Rutherford control of the team, he answers to Aqualini only. Then tells him that he's not allowed to make any MAJOR moves without picking up the phone and calling him for approval first... Rutherford would tell him, thank you very much, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.... Aqualini chose wrong when he made Gillis both President and GM, he was clearly better suited to President and let someone else make day to day team personal decisions within the team plan. Aqualini chose to let Benning continue after Linden left, without a guiding President on board to oversee general team structure. This was a bad decision, but I understand why it was made. I don't believe that Benning was that bad of a GM, he had his strengths (drafting) and his weaknesses, (team structure), the same as all GM's. It's why you build the type of structure that Rutherford has put in place. Very diversified group and talents with lots of different ideas and respected voices in the room. I'm not saying that Aqualini and Rutherford don't talk about team direction and what's being done, but don't kid yourself, Rutherford would not be here if he wasn't trusted to make all team decisions in terms of trades and management structure.
  12. Agree with you. This is what managing up is. You have regular meetings and talk about the direction of the team and what you are doing and where it is going etc. This is how I run my managers in business. They are in place because I trust them, we talk strategy at times and I call them with ideas, but I trust their decision making abilities to execute on the company plan and where we are going collectively.
  13. Sorry, but you have ZERO understanding of how this works, if you think that Aqualini as a business man cares about making the playoffs next season as opposed to developing a team and structure that makes the playoffs EVERY season. If we make the playoffs next season, he picks up a few million in revenue, but if we miss it again for another 3 seasons after, because he didn't trust the President of the team, to execute a plan that they both agreed on at point of hire, then he costs himself millions not only in subsequent years of playoffs, but also in the overall team valuation which he can leverage against for other business projects. If the team is a consistent playoff team, then his overall asset value and borrowing power increases far outweigh the value of running hit and miss with the playoffs. I can guarantee you, what you are proposing, is NOT how any guy in business who is successful, thinks. You build a management team, you put trust in them to execute the plan you agree on and if they don't you fire them and find someone else. That is how it works if you plan to run a successful business, and that is what the Canucks are to Aqualini, they are a business with a significant appreciating value. That's what he likes, that's what banks like.
  14. Zero chance that Aquilini approves trades, Rutherford would not have agreed to come out of retirement under those terms. I find it incredible that fans think that Billionaire businessmen operate by micromanaging every decision. They don't have time to do that. Aquilini went to Rutherford's home and asked him to run the team. If you think that either of these guys would accept the relationship that you're suggesting, sorry Alf, but you don't understand how business and managing down and up, works. Rutherford answers ONLY to Aquilini on all the decisions he makes, but he makes them.
  15. I can guarantee you that JR has final decision on ALL player transactions. He answers to Aqua on how those decisions play out, but you don't get Rutherford here without giving him that control. Anyone who really believes otherwise is fooling themselves. At his age and with the Cup rings he has, the buck stops with JR.
  16. We aren't going all in this year. That's not the plan, they will trade Miller if he can't be signed for an extension that we can live with.
  17. Exactly what I've been saying. They need more offense, Miller would meet that need.
  18. Incredible how panicky fans are. We have 364 days before he would hit free agency, we're in second day of this free agency period and we need to make moves and there are LOTS of teams looking for someone with Miller's skillset. I hope you guys don't play poker!
  19. We picked up enough depth up front to allow us to make a trade from forwards to strengthen our D. Trade hasn't happened yet, but it will in the next few days.
  20. I saw a post on Twitter from a guy with 5 followers who said that he overheard a couple of guys talking at the Burger King order counter that they overheard someone on their cell phone, in the crapper at the No 5 Orange who heard that someone overheard a guy living in a cardboard box, under the Georgia Viaduct, that he found a piece of paper that he assumes either JR or Allvin through out of their car window this morning on the way to work, that Miller would be traded for a massive haul within the next 72 hours. You can take that to the bank, you just can't cash it...
  21. Klimovich will start in Abbotsford this next season, but if he's developing well, he may get some time after Xmas next year. Personally, I think he's still about 18 months away, but considering he started playing professional, against men in Abbotsford last season, he's still WELL ahead of schedule. McDonough might get in a couple of games late season, once his time with College is done. If we're trending out of playoffs, assume he'll get a couple of games. If we are in the race and need every point, assume he will get some games in Abbotsford.
  22. I think, in a lot of fans heads, they think trade negotiations for the Canucks go something like this: Allvin calls a rival GM, "Hey, I see you have a nice, young Right Defense ready to enter the lineup next season. We really want him on our team, I'm sending over trade paperwork for a C level prospect and a couple bags of used pucks" Other GM: " But....but....." Allvin: "Stop your crying and sign the fricken paperwork. Our fans on CDC are really big on this trade, they aren't going to take NO for an answer. We've got this one guy on there, goes by the handle of @Alflives, trust me, you don't want him showing up in your office because you didn't sign off, he will F#$@ you up, just trust me on this... Allvin: "Just sign the paperwork and let us know when we should pick the kid up at the airport...."
  23. So, does anyone know anyone in Calgary that you can ask, how does it feel to have a player essentially say, I'll spend 15 million of my own money to NOT have to play in this city anymore...
