  1. Need to make the right moves, not just moves for the sake of making moves. All things being equal, I would keep Myers, but I'm pretty sure OEL refused to waive his NMC and as such, we really have too much cap space being taken up by 3 guys. Hughes isn't going anywhere, so Myers is likely the guy who will get moved. At the moment, they have a specific return in mind in any possible trade of Myers, however, if they can sign a couple of guys in free agency that round our our right side D, then maybe the needed return diminishes due to more urgency to move cap. At the moment, we have a little over 2.1 million available in cap space, but can run over by 10% if necessary during the off season. If we could sign Zadorov for around 4 million, plus maybe someone like Matt Benning at 2...ish, then Myers may be expendable for closer to a 3rd or 4th round pick, instead of a 2nd round pick. I don't anticipate that we will do much in the UFA market, I think we will be value conscious, looking for some guys who can bolster bottom 6 and right defense. If we spend anything on a player, north of 2 million, I believe it will be for an RD.
  2. Wouldn't mind taking a swing at him for around 2...ish.
  3. Not sure why Ottawa would do this, I don't see this as an improvement for them, they just spend more on salary. I think we would need to add something to convince them to take on the extra cap space.
  4. There's going to be lots of deals available tomorrow, with players who are looking for a chance to prove they belong in the league.
  5. I would probably do that and then do trades as necessary for additional space. Our management team is not done making moves, they are just approaching this with patience.
  6. Maybe they'd like to send us Karlsson at 50% retained, straight up for Myers? Cap numbers would work out about the same, and they would shave 6 million off their books in 2 more seasons. I wouldn't say no to Karlsson at 5.75 for another 5 years if he would lose the NMC as part of it.
  7. Why exactly, are we trying to help other teams? Please direct all possible trades directly to Allvin so he can execute our quasi evil plans...
  8. There's a LOT of this type of player that will be available, but it also doesn't mean that we don't resign them, this just takes away their option to file for arbitration.
  9. I have no idea what Canucks and Islanders say, but I'm about 99% sure that OEL says "HELL NO"
  10. I said in my original post, that Demko deserved a lot of credit. Again, I don't think you read my original post all that closely.
  11. So, I don't think you really read what I wrote all that closely. Yes, there needs to be improvement, but we also weren't as bad as many fans think. That's proven out by the fact that we were still tied for 9th best out of 32 teams in goals against. Poolman barely played last year. There will be changes, and again, if you listen to the GM with 3 Stanley Cups, he said part of our issue breaking out of our zone was systems. Not all of it, but part of it.
  12. Word out of Abbotsford was that his defensive game had improved. How much, we won’t really know till camp.
  13. So, I find it interesting that everyone thinks our defense is that bad, even though, from the time that BB took over the bench, through the end of the season, we were one of the top 5 defenses in the league at 5 on 5. Even considering the start we has, we finished up tied for 9th overall for lowest goals against in a 32 team league. Granted, Demko had a massive hand in that, and we do need to improve how fast we transition out of our own end, but we are not the Swiss Cheese that many fans seem to want to believe. If we wind up trading Miller, 90% chance it will be for a good, young RD on return. That would free us up to move Myers to create cap space. Not because Myers is a bad defenseman, just because we have too many 6 million plus guys on the blue line and OEL, I’m positive said no to being traded, and Hughes isn’t going anywhere. Part of exiting the zone faster is systems, which I believe is what Rutherford was talking about at year end press conferences. It’s one of the things BB will work on with them in camp.
  14. Sign him! Not because I want him on the team, just because I like to win. We can assign him to Abbotsford....
  15. There has been interviews and statements in the past months from JR, that it would be unlikely that we would be big players in Free Agency. We don't need to overpay for anyone right now, we need to show patience. There's going to be a scramble and there will be teams looking for options when they don't get the player that they want. IMO: #1. We won't move Myers unless we have an option coming back from trade to replace him on RD #2. We will be patient and wait for a suitor for Miller who will return us a solid, young RD which will allow us to do #1 and free up space. #3. We will do some value shopping in Free Agency, shoring up Abbotsford and some bottom 6 options, guys in the 1 - 2 million range, MAX. There are a LOT of teams that are still tight against the cap, who need to find solutions that work within their budget. Miller has a really strong value, because of his cap hit next season and the fact that he doesn't hold a NTC, etc, meaning that if things don't work out, a team trading for him, could decide to flip him again during the season. This is a more attractive option than most people realize. Like JR said in interview the other day, "Don't get ahead of ourselves...."
  16. This exactly. Too many fans expect that management should be clairvoyant and know the ultimate outcome of every decision. We may keep Miller into the season and he suffers a career ending injury 10 games in. We might trade him and the cornerstone of the trade suffers a career ending injury in training camp for us. We might have drafted Tkachuk and Calgary drafting Juolevi, and Tkachuk could have wound up having the injury problems due to different choice and playing in different games. There are all kinds of unknown variables, all we can ever do, is make what looks like the best decision at the time and live with how it ultimately plays out. There are no guarantees in life, especially when guys are playing a sport that's as fast and hard hitting as hockey is!
  17. If we could average him down to 7 million on 8 year term? I would probably sign him, as long as we didn't have to give him a full NMC, something like a 10 or 15 team NTC and I'd probably do it.
  18. I just heard from Rutherford and Allvin. They said they refuse to complete a Miller trade until we get to at least 1000 pages on this thread. Keep posting....
  19. So, did we actually scout anything other than the Swedish leagues?
  20. Are there any Elias Pettersson's coming up in the next few years who play goal? We need to cover all 3 positions...
  21. We're no longer the Vancouver Canucks, we're now the Elias Pettersson's
  22. in just ahead of me....its where my mind went, too
