  1. I totally get why they didn't announce this yesterday. I'm sure that they didn't want to overshadow the Stanley Cup final with this major news!
  2. Wow, quite the power team that JR has assembled for the front office. I think part of the failings of the last management group goes back to the failure to replace Linden when he left. We wound up spreading the workload on too few of people which falls on ownership. Whether Benning stayed or left, should have fallen on the shoulders of an experienced President, like Jim Rutherford!
  3. I see zero reason to do this at this point. Both Poolman and Dickinson had off years, although Dickinson was getting better near the end of the season, under coaching with BB. Dickinson was really effective with Dallas, he may have had difficulty adapting to the style that Green was pushing and started to get his footing under new coaching and structure. Poolman was constantly sidelined with injuries and it's a reasonable assumption that he may be able to get his game on track with a new season and with a fresh approach to defense structure, right from training camp. He's currently injured though as well, so until he's healthy, he's not going anywhere. If there's not a hockey trade for these guys, I'd rather just put them in camp and see how they respond to a fresh start under BB and if they aren't working, then either trade them or waive them and send them to Abbotsford. Rathbone has more value that just being used in cap dump situations, I don't know why everyone is so focused on spending assets to get rid of a couple of guys who aren't really hurting us and should be movable in regular trades.
  4. That, is hard to say, but I think that’s where he really wants to be. Montreal had a plan to grab him at the draft until Columbus took him off the board sooner than expected. I think he wants to be playing in front of his hometown.
  5. I don't think I'd do that deal. If Karlsson doesn't bounce back, you're very possibly buying him out next summer. He's been having more injury problems and has been generally declining on production for as long as that contract has been running.
  6. Just as an additional note, I think if you offer sheeted Roy at between 3 - 4 million, 1 year contract with the intention of negotiating a longer term deal for him as soon as eligible, you could probably get him for next year's 2nd round pick, which, based on changes that will be made to this team over the summer, should be in the 45 - 50 range, about 30% of getting an effective player.
  7. I think Vegas would LOVE to move Karlsson, his production has been in freefall the last few years as he's run into injury problems. You wouldn't have to retain anything to get Vegas to do a deal that removes him, if he has another season like last, he will be a serious buyout candidate for them next summer. He might even be a buyer candidate for them this summer if they are having doubts about him, would save them about 4 million on cap for next season which they badly need. I would say that you could even ship them out Ferland's contract as well so they can use the LTIR.
  8. So, not that I think these guys are necessarily that overall accurate, but, here's a fairly good article that we should be looking at when evaluating who a good trade target would be if we were to move Miller or Boeser for that matter: https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-farm-system-rankings/
  9. If there's a deal there, I wouldn't mind trading back into the 20's and taking one of the RD that should still be available.
  10. Instead of a goalie stick, he'll be out there with a cane screaming, "Slow down, you young whipper snappers..."
  11. That, would probably work for both sides. The big question is, will Klefbom ever play again. If he does, then their free space on cap drops from 7 million down to 3 million, but they do pickup one more warm body on defense. If Smith retires, that doesn't help them either as he's on a 35+ contract, so I believe he would still count against their cap next season, so they would have to cut into that 3 million to find a league minimum backup goalie. They badly need Keith gone, but through trade, not through retirement, for the reasons mentioned earlier in this thread. On Puljujarvi, he still has potential, but I think he badly needs out of Edmonton. An offer of Poolman straight up might work if the understanding from Edmonton's side is, if they don't accept, we offer sheet him for 3 million for 2 years and give up a 2nd round pick. It's not exactly like Bouchard is going to be cheap to resign next summer for them either.
  12. Yes, but Podkolzin was not running top, or even middle six minutes all season. He was eased into the NHL and played really sheltered minutes for the first half of the season.
  13. I hope so, but I'm not sure that anyone can really explain what a full 82 game season with the worst travel in the league is like. I think they endure it for a season and come back better prepared the next season, like Pettersson did.
  14. So, just everyone remember, KHL only plays a 60 game season and their travel load is nothing compared to the NHL. Everything I've seen of this kid is that he has NHL level talent, IQ and hands. He's likely going to struggle with the length of season, same as many players do their first year. They start to hit the wall after Xmas. Looking forward to seeing how he does!
  15. Didn't know people were still using Carrier Pigeon's to get their news.....
  16. Doesn't confirm anything. It just means that we have additional options when we are considering moves. He hasn't proven that he can play a North American, 82 game schedule yet!
  17. Personally, I'd rather try and do what's necessary to pickup Laine from Columbus. Maybe something like: To Columbus Miller Hoglander 15 OA To Vancouver Laine 12 OA
  18. But, those are proposals here, we have no real idea what was actually proposed at the deadline, or what might be proposed this summer. I agree though, if the return needs to justify the trade.
  19. When I think of trading Miller, the Duchene trade is what comes to mind. It reset the Avalanche on a path to the cup final and likely another Stanley Cup. Sometimes there's a good time and reason to trade someone. Look what trading Linden to the Islanders ultimately did for the Canucks, years ago, it completely reset the structure of the team.
  20. I agree! They stole Sergachev from Montreal, one of the worst deals Montreal did under Bergevin.
