  1. Sonny Milano could be a longshot Canucks pick up Former 1st round pick, he played on the US development team with Tyler Motte, was coached for multiple years under Brad Shaw in Columbus, had a 14 goal/55 game campaign with somewhat limited ice time during that time. Put up good stats under Shaw and Torts generally, including 5th in points scored per 60 mins in those years (amongst players who played at least 35 games): DOES NOT fill the PK role, but if Chiasson and Petan are being considered, I could see Milano in their realm as well. Doesn't have the size issues of Petan, and is a bit more versatile than Chiasson. Had 23 points in 55 games the years before last, but last year did not play much hockey.
  2. I missed most the game - but stoked to hear Podz had some good shifts Funny that Petan is having more of an impact than Chiasson in front of the net on the PP...gotta think that guy gets cut loose tonight
  3. Wow, I would've also chosen waiving Big Mac or possibly Dowling over Gadj but it's not THAT BIG OF a deal. There's players in Gadj's class that will be waived this pre-season, including Kole Lind and Alex Volkov today, and Cale Fleury and Noah Juulsen yesterday. It's gonna be OK.
  4. You won't find many who would be more willing to snag Volkov than me, but he wasn't traded for a 2nd. Just a 7th and a AHLer - possibly to be exposed.
  5. Kole Lind or Alex Volkov could be useful centers while Sutter is out, if the team doesn't have trust in Dowling or Petan I would've picked Gadj over MacEwen, hope he makes it down to the A.
  6. I think it also depends if Brock is out to start the year, if he is Garland will move up and three spots will be open in the bottom six: Miller - Pete - Garland Pearson - Bo - Hoggie Podkolzin - Dickinson - _____ Highmore - _____ - ______ Extra: ________ I thought Highmore looked OK on the left yesterday, and he can PK, so I figure he's a lock for the team as they're short staffed on the PK. Judging by what I've seen so far, I'd probably go with the following if all three of Motte, Sutter and Brock are out: Miller - Pete - Garland Pearson - Bo - Hoggie Dickinson - Petan - Podkolzin Highmore - Dowling - Lockwood Gadjovich MacEwen, Di Giuseppe and Bailey waived. Chiasson released from his PTO. Once Brock comes back, Lockwood likely sent down due to waiver ineligibility. I think Travis Green might disagree with me, but I'd much rather lose MacEwen to waivers than Gadjovich.
  7. Love that Boner takes risks but with Hughes back he's not gonna be running a powerplay. I think he'll go get TOI with Abby until there's an injury. Hopefully that'll helpen sharpen up and give away fewer pucks
  8. Gonna be hard not to start the season with Pearson - Horvat - Hoggie , if Brock is back wonder what the 3rd line will look like Podkolzin - Dickinson - Garland? Dickinson - Miller - Garland with Podz riding shotgun with Petey and Brock?
  9. Lockwood giving it every shift I think Podz is gonna fit well in a Travis Green system
  10. Yea, Geekie or Sheahan would be solid Sutter replacements for the time being. Geekie has decent underlying stats and is right-handed, but I don't think he PKed at all last year; not sure it's in his toolbox or not.
  11. Definitely a question. He was amongst the leaders of SH TOI last pre-season game so Green might be testing his ability a bit. Remember, Green coached him when he absolutely dominated in the WHL so he might have more trust in him than other coaches. But I think you're right - Highmore might make it over one of the players in that line-up based on PK abilities alone. Highmore, Dickinson, Pearson and _?_ are the 4 forward PKers presumably until Motte and/or Sutter are back or a transaction happens.
  12. Yea, I'd be good with this. Gives Petan two higher intensity wingers to off set the size issues he's had at the NHL level. Could possibly step into a PP specialist role if there's 4 forwards on the first unit and Boeser is out. Lockwood has played like he deserves a spot, but I wouldn't be against MacEwen or Highmore in his place if they wanna give him first line minutes in Abby for a bit.
  13. Based on what I've seen, I don't think Chiasson has brought enough to be worth a contract. Would rather have Highmore, Lockwood, Petan, or even MacEwen in the line-up - or a waiver wire/FA signing.
  14. Yea, the cap would be tight but I think with Sutter out it would work? If he comes back something might have to happen Fair critique re : Stecher. Only dressing Schenn over him cuz I can't imagine Myers (has already been tried) or Stecher doing well with Hughes. In the end, a healthy Canucks' D would have Schenn and Stecher as 7 and 8 for this year I haven't seen Anisimov at all this pre-season, though his stat line for the one game he played for so far looks OK. Based on his history I think he would be a good signing for sure, I kind of wonder if Benning offered him a PTO and he chose Colorado. It seems he would be a much better fit than Chiasson but part of that is due to the Sutter and Motte injuries I haven't caught that quote, but I don't think the Red Wings are going to have a good year. Vrana is out for 4+ months, Bertuzzi is an anti-vaxxer who is willing to ditch the team and sit out 9 games, and ofc Mantha is gone. Not a great start IMO. Hronek is probably set to lead the team in points again lol. Yea - no thx
  15. To Detroit: Madison Bowey, 4th round pick 2021, 4th round pick 2022 To Vancouver: Vlad Namestnikov (40% retained), Troy Stetcher, 7th round pick 2022 Why? Vancouver gets their PKing center to replace Sutts. No one at camp/pre-season looks quite ready for that role. Detroit loses players that don't really contribute to their rebuild anyway Vancouver gets their Russian mentor for Podz (kind of looking a bit lost out there..), Namestnikov's father was also part of the Canucks organization for 5 years as a player. He can play W or C when Sutter and/or Motte come back. He puts up decent offense when given an offensive role. before last year, he had two consecutive 31 point seasons, and before that 44 points for the Lightning. He's versatile, so fits into whichever mold Coach Green wants to go for Vlad is also a former jr. teammate of Bo Horvat in London Detroit gets their futures Canucks get a right-sided depth defenseman Canucks get a little morale boost. A lot of players were frustrated with Benning letting so many players walk two off-seasons ago; Troy was well liked by his teammates and fans. Bring back Troy! With Brady Keeper injured and Hamonic in the air, the Canucks could use a right-handed role player. Madison Bowey isn't getting much of a shot here, but he replaces the depth lost from Stetcher. He already had some success under Blashill as he played under him before the Red Wings signed Stetcher Miller - Petey - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Garland Podkolzin - Dickinson - Hoglander Highmore - Namestnikov - MacEwen (or Lockwood!) Petan Hughes - Schenn (until Hamonic situation resolved..) OEL - Poolman Juolevi - Myers Stetcher, Hunt Demmer Halak
  16. my opinion of the game: - Boner looks creative offensively but had 3 glaring, glaring giveaways in a pretty soft pre-season game. For a guy vying for a spot, didn't seem great. With Hughes signed and OEL looking good in pre-season, I think Rathbone starts in the AHL with Juolevi on 3rd pairing. Jack'll be back soon though - Petan looked like one of the more dominant offensive players in the game (well, Bo looked a few levels up still). This is often the case with dominant AHLers in pre-season, and they fade once the season starts. But if the Canucks are going to give the extra spot to 1 of the 2 PP specialist, I think I'd choose Petan over Chiasson at this point. - Justin Dowling was trialed on the PK - probably being considered for Sutter's spot. He PKed 2 mins against the Flames also. Not sure he really looks NHL level, and he took a late penalty in a close game. The Canucks need another PKer with Motte and Sutter out but waiver wire might look pretty tempting in the next few days.
  17. Good catch on Curran. Don't think Benning will snag him, I think he'll let Hunt get some time with the team instead unless someone really significant is put on waivers. But Curran could be an intriguing lhd pick up if Benning went that route; former teammate of Hoglander in the SHL too.
  18. He could be a good safeguard while Hamonic is purgatory and Keeper has a broken leg, but I wonder if Hunt & Bowey will cover the 7-8 spots until the Hamonic stuff is figured out (Hughes - Schenn; OEL-Pool; Juolevi-Myers; Hunt-Bowey). I don't really see Fleury as a good RHD partner for any of those opening night pairings except maybe Juolevi, but would the Canucks really want a Hughes-Myers first pairing in that case? Not gonna scratch Myers to dress Schenn IMO. Don't see him as a shoe-in for beating out Bowey or Burroughs tbh, but wouldn't be against the pick up.
  19. BIG WIN TONIGHT . Good balance of solid players and some trying out still, pushing for spots. They'll win it for Demmer
  20. Pearson + a pick for Kessel 50% off is pretty much a wash JT - Pettersson - Boeser Podz - Horvat - Garland Hoggie - Dickinson - Kessel Looks pretty solid to me. If it came down to it, having Kessel in top-6 or 9 in the playoffs is a pretty solid offensive upgrade from Pearson. Also two pretty great PP units.
  21. Yea, his point totals last year were nothing to sneeze at, and not much of a commitment at this point Benning did draft him and we know Benning is loyal to players he once liked. Someone (P E A R S O N) would have to be outgoing, but it could be a possible fit.
