  1. Kessel for one year at 3.4 is a pretty good deal for a team that needs a scoring winger IMO.
  2. I feel like we have to presume that the team is building around Chychrun I think the last players who may be available for future assets would be Nick Schmaltz and/or Phil Kessel. Schmaltz would assumedly cost in the same range as Christian Dvorak - similar stats, age. I would like him here - versatile player, who played on a line with Boeser and was a teammate of Poolman in college. But I don't see how the Canucks would fit him. Wouldn't be against Kessel if he was retained at 50% and move for Tanner Pearson and a pick. The wings aren't exactly a place of need for the Canucks, but would give them an elite top-9: JT - Petey - BB Podz - Bo - Garland Hoggie - Dickie - Kessel Motte - Sutter - Highmore
  3. former linemate of Justin Dowling in the AHL 24 points in 65 games two years ago, 22 goals/38 points in 73 games the year before. Multiple 30+ point seasons Big, strong on the puck, right-handed. Pretty good no loss deal to make camp more competitive IMO. Last contract was paid over 2M per year. With Sutter and Motte both out, could end up making the cut.
  4. 8x8 or 6.5x3 are two deals I could see Hughes signing
  5. Galchenyuk had decent stats last time he was in Arizona, might hype up 1-2 fans in the region to come to pre-season
  6. Hopefully if Petey signs for that AAV they can tack on 2+ more years
  7. Yes let's just tear the heart and soul out of Vancouver Benning just reworked the roster to compete again. He's not about to blow it up if he doesn't have to If Evander's contract gets terminated somehow, then maybe he can come home via a season in Abbotsford and intensive therapy
  8. Maybe MacEwen + a 3rd in 2023 or 2024 for Mikheyev would be more palatable.
  9. I think Mikheyev has a higher value that MacEwen - and could fit into a lot of team's cap structure. I think Vancouver would have to even the scales a little bit. A 2nd has decent value but a 4th softens the blow a bit. Fair enough tho
  10. That trade also intrigues me - allows Toronto some defensive depth and fills out the Canucks' forwards. Since Olli's cap hit is so small, they could retain some on Mikheyev IMO.
  11. In the original thread I state he would be a top-6 winger. I also don't think Mikheyev is all that soft. He's big, fairly strong on the puck, throws a hit per game, plays defensively well, PKs.
  12. In that case he'd have also have to choose Vancouver; and I don't think forgoing a year of depth is the same thing, it would definitely be a different strategy. I wanna see the Canucks' go as deep as possible this year after last year's catastrophe - and I believe they can. and you're totally right - forgot about Tanner Pearson. But a Pearson - Sutter - Motte 4th line is pretty impressive.
  13. To Toronto: Zack MacEwen (40 percent retained), 2nd round pick 2023, 7th round pick 2023 To Vancouver: Ilya Mikheyev, 4th round pick 2023 Why? - Toronto has no cap space and has only 6 defensemen signed, they'll likely want to clear cap space to make that last depth signing. This is one way of doing it will while retaining some forward depth - Mikheyev, per Friedmann, quietly asked for a trade at the end of the season. Other Toronto bloggers are encouraging management to pursue that, although the Toronto Star journalist has said to let him stew - Mikheyev is fast - would be the fastest player on Vancouver - Mikheyev is big (6'3, 200 pounds) - Mikheyev showed big offensive potential in the KHL and his rookie NHL season (23 points in 39 games), but was left out of the top-6 last year with Toronto having a pretty deep top-6. Has also been utilized on the PK and is seen as a player who plays 'both ends of the ice' - With Canucks looking to line-up two smaller wingers on the 2nd line (Garland, Hoggie), Mikheyev offers another option - and can play either side - MacEwen has been beat out on paper by Highmore and Di Giuseppe, although training camp could change that - but not a huge loss for Vancouver - Mikheyev was seen as signing a team-friendly contract at the time of his signing - and is fairly cheap for what he brings. Canucks would take on 1.2M in this trade - sending one player down on waivers would essentially make the difference - The Russian factor: “I think it would help…having another Russian player on the team,” Benning told Sportsnet’s Iain McIntyre. “So, we’re looking at that and seeing if there’s a fit that works either through trades or free agency. We may look to do something like that.” I don't know if Benning is still pursuing this option, but this is one way of completing that task - The 2nd round pick allows Toronto to get some value back Miller - Petey - BB Mikheyev - Horvat - Garland Hoggie - Dickie - Podkolzin Pearson - Sutter - Motte Highmore One of Gadjovich, Petan, Dowling, Lockwood, Focht, Stevens if Motte starting the year injured solid!!
  14. Yea, multiple Hart trophies as a goalie, six Vezinas, Stanley Cup, like you said, carried a non contender to a gold in '98. Imagine being a GM and choosing Jimmy Waite over him. Ouch.
  15. Burke was the right guy for the right era of hockey - that's my vote even though I don't agree with everything he did People love Quinn but I disagree with the way he treated Bure's camp after bringing him over Gillis did some really cool things - like hiring sleep doctors, acknowledging the travel issue. Tried to fix the underlying issues that he must have caught onto as a agent. He also took depth really seriously before the 2011 run, and of course led the team to one of two SCFs. The Luongo gimmicks will forever be a stain on his reputation though.
  16. Playing with Petey's brother & Sergei Shirokov for some Canucks' connections
  17. feel like Petey has the best odds - but voted JT Miller going with a gut feeling Feel like next year's team is made for JT's style of play - faster, more tenacious, bigger, quicker (hopefully) exits from their own end. Now that he's had success at C under Green, he can be utilized in many different roles.
  18. I dunno, Glen Murray was a little too slow to be a Pods comparison I feel. Lehtinen is closer I think, and guy was an absolute legend. Would be great if he had the anywhere near the same shutdown capabilities I'm kind of wondering if Shanahan would be a good comparison. Both wingers playing on the opposite of their hand, similar size now, that high level of competition, decent shot and nastiness/physicality. Needless to say, I'm stoked for this guy.
  19. i personally think McDavid is the best individual player, but I still think winning a cup is necessary to top any list. Had to vote for Sid
  20. Chara's camp has stated he won't come West. It sounds like he would be more interested in retiring than signing a PTO. Definitely some similarities on our list. Would be interested to see if Dal Colle could re-invent himself as a 4th line winger or not. Give him a similar deal to Brady Keeper so the Canucks can minimize risk sending him to Abby without teams taking him on waivers for the year. Still young, can play either wing, led a team to the Memorial cup, really only broke in the AHL one full season ago. I think Gusev would be a shrewd PTO or even a >1.125M signing (although I would prefer Anisimov who can play C in case of injury). But Goose and Podkolzin were both part of SKA Saint Petersburg at the same time - Podz got 3 games in, while Gusev lead the team (by a huge margin) in points in season and then again in the playoffs. Tyler Bozak is another player that be great on a PTO if he slides much longer IMO. Dmytro Timashov is another player I'd like to see at training camp or signed on a 2-way with the idea of playing in Abby. He had a good AHL playoff before the two COVID seasons. Was claimed by Detroit off waivers in COVID season 1 but barely got any games due to a visa issue, then was sought after by Lou Lam as deadline depth. Abbotsford could still use a couple forwards.
  21. Yea, it's gonna really depend on the exact figures of their contract. But Di Giuseppe and Highmore could theoretically be buried in the minors, and both Gusev and Anisimov are entering >1m contract zones it looks like. Saying that, I remain on the Motte and Highmore as 4th line wingers train. Think they're gonna really thrive under a full year of Green's system (dump and wingers chase the puck). I think Anisimov would be the smarter add between him and Gusev as he can play C and the Canucks are one injury away from needing a centre to keep their roster flexibility IMO.
