  1. If Arizona is clearing players as young as 25, what's left for picking? Could the Canucks snag Schmaltz and re-unite him with Boeser? That's really it outside of Chychrun. Team is gonna be rough next year.. Keller - Schmaltz - Kessel Jaskin (??) - Dzingel (??) - Krouse (?>??) Larsson (??) - Fischer - Player Name (!!) Roussel - Beagle - Boyd Chychrun - Stralman (lol) Gostisbehere - Lyubushkin (???) Capobianco (???) - Timmins Hutton (.886 last year...1?!!?) ???? jesus. i don't know if i've ever seen a team that bad on paper
  2. Brian Boyle basically attempting a comeback at 36. #s weren't bad the year before last. Well respected player from Boston area. Two SCF appearances but no cup. Wouldn't mind if the Canucks kept an eye on his PTO for a 13th forward position or if a C injury happens during their training camp tbh. As PTOs roll out, hoping Benning will invite one or two of Anisimov (or sign him), Bozak, maybe Gusev, Dal Colle, Timashov (maybe also an Abby consideration), Jankowski.
  3. the Sedin trade is iconic; it was creative and two twins drafted back-to-back who became All-Stars. Unprecedented and maybe will never happen again to that level. the Luongo trade was great. It's too bad the end of Luongo went poorly - also some of the gimmicks, like naming him captain, didn't do much to help the situation. Trades like that don't really happen anymore tho, no way a declining PWF who sucker punched someone could bring in an All-Star goalie in this era. Naslund is the best 1-for-1 fleecing and the Ronning and Courtnall trade is pure nostalgia. Anyone voting for that just misses 1994 - don't we all....
  4. Thought he played OK in his role, but thought Highmore was better His injuries haven't helped his path to the NHL at all Skellefteå put up a decent season and playoff last year and could use another top-6 forward. I think Tom Kuhnhackl also signed there this off-season, so they should be pretty competitive. Maybe if he can put together than injury-free season he'll find a NHL contract next year
  5. Pretty good offensive output for a 4th liner/13th forward too.
  6. Not the first time a transaction happens right when I make a proposal hahah. Oh well
  7. To St.Louis: Tyler Myers (750k retained), Zack MacEwen (50% retained) = approx. 5.6M To Vancouver: Ivan Barbashev, Robert Bortuzzo, 4th round pick = approx 3.5M - St. Louis does not have a competitive defense corps right now, and are trying to land a defenseman: https://theathletic.com/2773804/2021/08/18/the-offseason-isnt-over-but-is-it-time-to-be-concerned-about-the-blues-defense/ - Per that same article, they've tried to purse Ryan Suter, Scott Mayfield & Zdeno Chara to no avail - In that article, it is stated that Bortuzzo has been extremely respected within the org. but has been shopped as recently as last off-season to fit in an upgrade cap-wise - St.Louis is nearing the cap and does not have a full NHL roster really, this is one way of achieving that - Barbashev is a former linemate of Conor Garland in jr. where they dominated the Q - He's a 20-30 pointer who plays all three zones, can play C or LW, and was a valuable member of St.Louis' cup winning team - While St.Louis needs to upgrade on Bortuzzo, he would fit in well competing for the 3rd pairing here - Benning went out and fixed the Canucks cap hierachy/structure this off-season, but Myers is still somewhat overpaid for what he brings - This gives the Canucks some breathing room on the Petey and Hughes contracts immediately - Barbashev is decently physical and strong on the puck - Barbashev has a decent cap hit for what he brings - Barbashev would also fill in that 'Russian' factor the Canucks may be seeking as they have not had luck in welcoming Russian players into the fold over the last several years...decades Miller - Petey - Boeser Hoggie - Horvat - Garland Pearson - Barbashev - Podkolzin Motte - Dickinson - Sutter Highmore OEL - Hamonic Hughes - Poolman Juolevi - Bortuzzo Schenn, Keeper Demmer Halak
  8. further Dvorak speculation from Engels: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canadiens-bergevin-must-explore-options-matching-kotkaniemi-offer/
  9. Islanders sources have stated that Lou has been holding off making contracts formal to allow for extra cap space while he puts his off-season puzzle together I kind of suspect something similar is happening with Petey and Quinny; allows Benning to stay in trade talks in the meantime
  10. I like Palmieri but I'd 100% rather have Garland at this stage of their careers for the same AAV.
  11. It's bad for both teams. Rips out Vancouver's heart and soul player just after making a # of deals this off-season to try to re-position them for a playoff spot. Makes no sense
  12. if Jim Benning trades JT Miller for a 1st and Toffoli at this point in the off-season, I will definitely join a chorus of people asking for his swift firing. That would be absurd.
  13. Chara said he would only play if it was in the east
  14. A nearly bury-able contract for someone who is 22 and paced for 20 goals and 40 points last year. 5th in scoring amongst preds' forwards last year. Pretty good contract for NSH IMO.
  15. Successful offer sheets on star players also rarely come about - partly cuz offers can be used a bargaining chip before they're signed if the agent desires. If the premise is that Petey may want to leave because he doesn't believe the Canucks are a contender, then I wouldn't be certain he'd take 1.5-2M more on a big term to be on a terrible team. Saying that, I don't think there's many teams who have the capacity to offer sheet him anyway. In reality, I think it's more likely Hughes and Petey are pretty much done their contracts and they're waiting for Benning to make his final summer move/signing - that way he still has the cap space to be creative. But who knows
  16. also Petey would have to agree to an offer sheet with the team; it's unlikely he wants to play for a worse team than the Canucks if his intention is to be on a contender.
  17. since this would be the final year of his contract, who knows, Carolina may have already have a verbal agreement with him to sign longer term for a bit less if/once MTL lets him walk. shouldn't have scratched Jesperi for Jake Evans in the final either.
  18. I agree - but he might keep him on *principle* or something A 1st + 3rd would be a long way toward Eichel if they wanna go that route instead.
