[Signing] Wild sign Jordie Benn
Ilya Mikheyev replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Dude is a warrior, not to mention battled up from the ECHL and the flippin CHL to become a NHL regular. I think Schenn is an improvement but Benn will be a solid depth guy for Minny. -
I think it has to be Fedorov - still scoring 100 points while winning the Selke; multiple cup winner (x3) and was kind of the most important player on those teams; first Russian to win the Hart. That gold medal with Bure in Alaska (WJC); led a team to the Gagarin cup finals in his older years. Was considered a mentor to Ovi in Washington's first real playoff run with him. 400+ goals, 1100+ points in the NHL while having the ability to shutdown lines, and being the offensive driver on his line very year. Slava Kozlov was pretty much his most prolific consistent linemate- no offensive to Slava but if he had a few years with someone like Bure or Ovechkin gotta think those #s would be even higher.

Portland would be great for the Canucks - Seattle and Portland being added within two years would reduce their travel quite a bit, and that's a huge issue for this franchise. Along with Abby being the farm team, would be great -
[Buyout] Frans Nielsen

Probably the end of his career - only 15 points in his last 88 games, hasn't played in the playoffs since 2016. -
[Proposal] Trade Capitals & Canucks
Ilya Mikheyev replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This is definitely a creative way to upgrade the 4th line wing position Part of me really wants to see how Highmore can perform under a Green system in a more normal season, cuz his 'high motor' and chasing pucks down the wing fit the system so well, kind of like Tyler Motte. On the other hand Hathaway has proven much more defensively, incl. doing OK against the Bergeron line in the playoffs last year. Motte - Sutter - Hathaway would be a pretty solid defensive line for a 4th line. I don't have strong feelings either way TBH -
[Signing] Wild re-sign Kevin Fiala

I mean that all sounds pretty bad -
Looks like they've also listed their other import draftee from Belarus - Daniil Bourash. He's gonna be in the '22 NHL draft too. Also cursory glance at their line-up tells me they don't have any dominant top-6 players, currently on the downcycle after a long 2018-2019 run, seems like a perfect void to be filed by Danila and Daniil.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jason Dickinson

Yea, thought Hoggie and Miller showed some chemistry together last season in limited playing time too. Both high motor, high compete level players. Podkolzin or Garland would fill that line out real well, same kind of will to win. Of that top-9, it's really Tanner Pearson who could be upgraded on to someone with a bit more grit and/or ability to dominate a play. Still, it's a solid top-9 now. Catch me dreaming of adding Vlad Tarasenko tho -

Yep - this summer has pretty bad for Guerin Victor Rask - Frederik Gaudreau as a 1-2 punch? Ahhh that would be rough -
So hard to compare the OG 6 era with the modern won. Béliveau was doubtlessly an amazing captain - but winning cups meant something very different back then. Same with Ted Lindsay who also spearheaded the player's union. I'm gonna put my vote with Lindsay - but if we're thinking the 25+ team era I'd maybe go with Yzerman.

he sniped it right past that goalie!

True but he's about to have a 25A assist season feeding Podkolzin beauties -

Last year the Canucks paid 4.375m & 3m for their 3rd & 4th line centers. This year they've improved both positions and are paying 2.65 & 1.125 respectively. Let's gooo- 334 replies

I think Keeper has a really solid chance
-
Feel like the 8th spot is gonna be tough competition assuming Schenn is the 7th: Brady Keeper, Brad Hunt, Juolevi if Bone jumps him, Madison Bowey, Kyle Burroughs. Realistically I see Juolevi making the team; Rathbone being first call-up cuz he's waiver exempt, Maple Ridgeian Brad Hunt being 1D in Abbotsford to draw a crowd to the team by being a local all-star, Langley boy Kyle Burroughs sent to Abby. I think it's a tough call between Keeper and Bowey though, especially considering both played very few games last year.

[Signing] Panthers sign Joe Thornton

Dude put .5 PPG last year. Not bad for a league minimum contract. I know I would play until they 'dragged me off the ice' if I could. Probably won't make Florida's playoff team, but not bad depth to start the year
