  1. Yea, if Schmidt sticks around I could see this being a solid pairing. The two would compliment each other well, a smooth 2-way game.
  2. Although this is definitely a deal a GM makes when his job is on the line, I like it in some ways. 1. Frees up some cap to sign Petey and Hughes right away to long contracts 2. Guarantees Podkolzin a decent winger to play with (one of Pearson or Hoggie will probably be on his line or he'll play with Horvat, and Garland will be 3rd line) 3. Ekman-Larsson can eat up monster minutes. I think there's a chance he'll feel rejuvenated getting out of Arizona 4. Garland is underrated and a great stat line last year 5. Some decent cap retention (wish it was 500k higher tho)
  3. Schmidt for DeBrusk wouldn't shock me. Two players in need of a change of scenery. Overpaid for what they've brought last year. Boston needs another top-4 D. This year DeBrusk is a short-term gamble and if he doesn't work out adds to Benning's cap space++ next year. Boston saw SOME value in him to protect him. Boston probs not on Schmidt's no-trade list.
  4. I'm honestly confused about Tarasenko's value, but I would do this deal in a heartbeat based on my (possibly overrated) belief in Tarasenko . I think he's gonna bounce back pretty hard. His cap sucks but if they take Roussel it does damped the impact a bit -the next year the Canucks should be OK with it, if St Louis could retain even 20 percent that would be ideal. This update from the Steadman Clinic coach tells me he's motivated AF.
  5. wow. 4 years at 4 million. Holland chose Keith over this. My bet is it'll backfire pretty hard
  6. IMO if the Canucks are going to trade up for anyone it should be to secure Brandt Clarke Luke Hughes has been ranked anywhere from 4th to 11th by analysts, I agree the Canucks should take him if he's BPA but otherwise I don't think it's worth trading up for.
  7. Seems more like Kuzma was yapping than anything grounded in seriousness Maybe Colton Parayko if St.Louis feels he won't re-sign, Seth Jones if Benning feels Brad Shaw & Travis Green (also played on development teams with Miller & Motte) have a strong enough connection with him to re-sign him, Dumba...somehow, I feel Erik Cernak is still the ideal fit but doubt he'll be moved. Can't think of many more that would be worth a 9th overall. A couple FAs out there that could be good too, namely Adam Larsson
  8. I feel like the list of big, young, two-way or defensive RHD who are actually available is not very long
  9. Hockeyprospect.com has Luke Hughes ranked 11th & Bob McKenzie has him 8th. Fingers crossed the hardest for Brandt Clarke
  10. Henrik, Daniel, activate! In seriousness I think he would be a great fit with Hughes. Savard is pretty comparable, but a couple years older and 4-5 contract will be riskier if used on him.
  11. I don't think Roussel's ability to speak French actually gives him much value to MTL (I think people say that on this board as a joke cuz he literally has no value). Byron was scratched some games in the season but was looped back in for every playoff game (for a reason) and played well. My guess is GMMB will wanna go with the same strategy, sending him down on waivers if required but keeping him around under the assumption that no one will wanna claim his contract. And if they do, then he has a bunch of cap space. I doubt he'd change course to take on a worse player on another terrible deal, even tho Rooster does have 1 year less on the contract. If there is any value in the trade it is exactly that - that MTL gets one less year with an underpaid 4th liner. But I don't think he'll move Byron for a total waste of cap space like Roussel this year as they try to meet the expectations they set last year of making it to the SCF
  12. What's the cost of Zadorov if Francis doesn't pick him up?

    1. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Sean Connery with a Webley and a nappy?

      Wait..that's Zardoz.

  13. Still, if I was Lou Lam i'd be dangling Eberle and protecting Bailey over Matt Martin. Obvs he's a few more cups than me tho lol.
  14. Also wonder if Alex Wennberg could be pulled to Vancouver. He had his most successful seasons playing C while Brad Shaw (and Ian Clark, too) was his assistant coach. Him and Miller could both be interchangeable between the top-6 & 3C roles. He could also drive the 2nd PP unit. Would love to see Coleman here though.
  15. Seems wild to me. From what I watched Bailey seemed like a good cog in Trotz' machine that had a good playoff run. Decent contract/commitment for what he brings too.
  16. Yea, I agree. Thought about that after I posted it too. I think Driedger & Holtby may be the combo, or maybe Adin Hill & Price.
  17. I voted Holtby, but have pretty much an equal feeling that it could be MacEwan.
  18. I'm still neutral on firing vs. keeping Benning, but I think the Stecher, Tanev & Toffoli situations were sad because he seemed to have snubbed them all. Per reports, it seems like he didn't even tell them he was not going to offer them contracts. If there's any reason I'd be in the fire Benning camp it's because he seemed to snub those three guys - esp. bad when you consider all three wanted to stay after a decent playoff run, one was on the team for ages, one was from Richmond & the latter showed good success in a limited run. The situation with Landeskog seems more like a Markstrom situation where he's asking for more than Sakic is willing to pay at the moment, so this makes it clear to both camps where they are at with negotiations. Markstrom knew he was not going to be retained a signed a new contract right away, which is fine to me. The other guys deserved that respect too.
  19. Landeskog - Gourde - Tarasenko Zucker - - Dadonov Jarnkrok - Kerfoot - Appleton ___ - Giordano ____ - ___ Bean - Stetcher Price Holtby Looking like Francis has some decent bricks to build with
