2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017

Seems like nothing but positives coming out of Portland on this kid. Primarily a playmaker with a pretty complete package of skills plus high motor, character, and size -- 6'2 is good already and he's almost certainly going to get even bigger considering his dad and brother. Having two good solid Canadian boys anchoring our top-6 sounds great to me. Might be the "safest" pick if we're in the 4/5 slot, and I think he sounds exactly like a Benning guy -- from mynhldraft.com: -
Would not count him out at all if he can fully recover. Looked very promising in the preseason, but there are more kids now pushing for spots.

Ah good, then you're prepared to have that pony ridden like a rented mule when the time comes. Hee-yaw!
-
So tasty and like an everlasting gobstopper, it'll last forever. Can't wait till Juolevi comes in and bests Tanev's career high 20 points in his first season

Yup, they need a play-making center far more than a "possible" upgrade at wing, and there are plenty available ranked at the top-end. Otherwise it's pretty much pure gambling (not to mention spinning one's wheels), especially in a draft without generational talent. -

1. Is that to say it's certain Patrick goes #1, no matter who gets the pick? 2. What would happen if the Canucks pick second, and DON'T take Patrick/Hischier? I predict -- CDC goes nookuler. -

That's the thing -- unless you believe Tippett is SIGNIFICANTLY better than our current prospects at the same position, it makes little sense to just swap him into the pool and and in effect lose a few years of development on current prospects by trading them away. In a rebuild you do not start trading away prospects just to fill some holes or "hopefully upgrade", unless you believe they aren't developing well nor projecting as expected (see: Shinkaruk, Mallet, and Jensen). We need to get these players developed and into the lineup, not endlessly draft replacements because the new toys look shinier. -
No and no. There was a top-5 in the 2014 draft, and Subban and Cassels are not NHL-ready yet.

Teeny tiny. Kinda like how Juolevi (so someone says) has a "little bit more offense" than Tanev. It's like saying Patrick has a "little bit more size" than Hischier.

Don't think he's on their radar, at least not in the top-5. Already have enough shooters on the wings. They want a play-making centre or true PPQB. -
That's what I've been thinking -- almost certainly family-related, and primarily to do with his new marriage. Still have yet to find out term, so maybe the door isn't fully closed and she/they just want some time back home to think more about it. From his pre-draft interview, Tryamkin sounded very certain on what he wanted in his career, and that was to play "in the best league".

Megna and Molino are likely for Utica, Chaput probably has a good shot at resigning but likely for Utica as well. Rodin is a question mark but if he's here he makes the roster otherwise he'd head back home. Boucher is on the bubble depending what happens this summer, but like Cramarossa they'll probably qualify him. Good depth guys, could end up on waivers. Shore and Skille are likely the guys on the outside, with a shot at 2-way deals if they want them otherwise they're likely off to apply for jobs elsewhere.

Yup, I think it was the Director of Central Scouting who this week said that after the first 9 or so there is a next tier 20-25 deep, which translates to 30-35 overall. With fallers always happening and some teams reaching to draft some early, we're in a great spot to grab another top player at 33. Columbus' pick is 20-some beyond that, but then we'll have our 3rd within about 10 or so shortly after. -
We could draft Brady next year just to placate the complainers, but then there'd be "but imagine if we had both together!"
-
Wanted, but reality set in that the rest of the league saw him as a backup. A third was fine and turned into a pretty decent prospect, plus we got McKenzie as well and he'll be in Utica next year. I wasn't against it. The move needed to be made, and Lack wasn't showing enough to be a consistent starter. People didn't want him traded largely because of his personality. Same reason some never want players like Bieksa traded -- it's more about the person and nostalgia than what's best for the team.

All looking like good picks, but wouldn't be shocked if we hear Heiskanen called either. JB has a history of picking guys who've shown well at the worlds. -
I read it fine. He has things to work on before he is gifted an NHL spot, including defence and raising his compete level. Nobody is "trying to turn him into a defensive player", but getting him to be a better overall player.
-
Subban put up lots of points too yet McEneny got the callup. Goldie's not a superstar where he can get away with being a one-way player. As has been said, Yzerman was threatened with trade if he didn't play both sides of the puck. In today's game you can't have any floaters or cherry-pickers. If he isn't providing net benefit on the ice he won't get the ice-time. There's a reason why Boeser started getting big minutes right away while others like Boucher did not, despite being older and more experienced. Nobody's expecting a Selke of him but everyone needs to be responsible.
-
Er, so if you don't want the prospects on the team because the Canucks are going to suck next year, how is the next year going to be any better -- because the Sedins and Edler/Tanev might be gone? The vets in Sutter, Dorsett, Sbisa, etc. aren't developing any more, so any improvement has to come from the youth. When are the Canucks going to be "ready" for them, when Horvat, Baertschi, Granlund, Stecher, Hutton, etc. are all in their mid-20s? That doesn't mean you bring in a tidal wave just to have them, but if a kid is ready for the NHL he makes the lineup. The Edmonton fiasco was not because of too many kids but because they weren't ready. We're getting to the point of having enough prospects and roster spots open that the ready ones can (compete to) take a spot and the rest will develop in the lower leagues. The rebuild must press on!
-
I could see Goldobin with some Utica time to round out his two-way game, but Boeser was clearly there in his first game. He's not going anywhere, save for a terrible camp showing.
-
At least Zuke is familiar with and wants to play the NA game; sounds like his potential move over there is still with the goal to play here. Very nice playoff performance for him so far, as another prospect (like Juolevi) who seems to elevate his game when it counts.
-
Seems his strength is behind the net, battling then making good plays to out front.
-
Shane O'Brien and Andrew Alberts would be good depth, Gillis might be able to get them cheap.
-
McEneny is almost certainly ahead of Subban at this point as far as having an NHL-ready game. As well, Pedan should take this as a sign of a big (maybe final) opportunity, because we're back to needing what he potentially brings.
