  1. There it is, plain and simple. Tkachuk himself said after the draft, "I had a meeting with them (Canucks) at the (draft) combine and it never seemed like they were that interested", this despite Benning saying he was the best player in the draft below the dot. Clearly they saw something they REALLY liked in Dubois and Juolevi. To reiterate -- bottom line, we weren't getting Tkachuk regardless.
  2. It's almost kindof amusing or funny watching him play, as if he's the master of the rink and simply does as he pleases. Oh hi, mister forward, you're coming into my zone? Here, let's angle you off this way and I'll just take this puck from you. Thank you, come again. The kicker is his compete level and that he raises his game when it really counts.
  3. Didn't say he was a great skater, said he has NHL speed already.
  4. They were working together well last night, alright. A bit of ND old-times sake.
  5. Definitely moving his feet better than I thought he would. While he often appeared to coast in college, when he did get moving he got around very well and that's why I didn't see it being as much of a concern as some made it out to be. He already has NHL speed, brought it from his first shift, and can probably still improve upon it.
  6. But how 'bout his late hits, slew foots, and elbows to the face?
  7. We can now pass only the Devils, so worst-case we have the 5th lotto seed, with a guaranteed top-8 draft pick.
  8. So... where are Glass and Yamamoto ranked? High or low?
  9. They'll have a field day. "Tryamkin smudges Pu against the boards" "Pu in the Canucks' net behind Miller" "Slick Pu too much for Canucks" "Boeser covered by Pu in the slot" "LaBate drops Pu in the corner" "Pu explodes in Canucks stinker"
  10. Someone get that boy a cheeseburger! No doubt, if anyone's seen bodybuilders when bulking they can be mistaken for being out-of shape hefties with big guts. That being said, it's not the ideal strength plan for athletes like hockey players. Jake was already pretty strong, but maybe he took the commitment too far in that regard so looking at it positively he may be equally as committed to the new regimen.
  11. Wasn't advocating for where he should play, but rather that the contention of sending him to Europe to play in a relatively soft league is not at all what he needs. He already has NHL game, NHL skills, and NHL smarts. What he lacks is NHL strength, and that is why the Canucks are not sending him to Utica for pro experience but rather to get working on his physical aspects. He would probably light up a big-ice low-contact Euro league, but that's not going to develop what he's lacking. Putting him into game situations with relatively less physicality isn't going to push or test him; he needs to play in the closest approximation to the NHL they can get him if it's not actually in the NHL.
  12. More physical is what's best for him; he needs to get accustomed to the NHL game.
  13. So which is it? lol He was straight-forward last year when he said there was a d-man in his "top 5 or 6" amongst the forwards.
  14. Considering he's only in his second year of major junior, he's made some pretty significant progress.
  15. Simply put, no matter the skill level, floaters and cherry-pickers will not play on this team. Effort, intensity, and a high motor is the common denominator, and any who won't do it won't see the ice until they are willing.
  16. Perhaps Baertschi could be a good role model in this, as he had to make that change in his game as well.
  17. Vegas pushes us back to 5th. It's starting to look more likely for Arizona to pass us than the Devils as we play them Thursday, but we have more ROWs than both so the Coyotes need 3 points and Devils 2. That would put us 2nd and no lower than the 5th pick, and is certainly doable at this point.
  18. No help tonight on the out-of-town tankboard, but if the Canucks lose tomorrow in San Jose they are locked to go no worse than the 5th seed in the lotto, as there would be no teams we can catch even if we win the final three games. In fact, we need to take 7 of the remaining 8 possible points to move down at all. Thereby we can pick no worse than top-8.
  19. We'll see how Erik does coming in healthy and with a new contract this next season.
  20. Benning's made it pretty clear in recent interviews that he's targeting a playmaking centre and/or PPQB this draft, citing that very reason -- they've stocked up on scoring (potential) wingers and now need the players to get them the puck.
  21. Don't be too certain. All the comments and signs from management so far (as well as insider rumblings from the HW) are to give him a good shot this Fall at making the team. I think going back to junior is their B plan. I could see them sheltering him with Gudbranson on the third pairing, and rolling with some combination of Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Sbisa, Tryamkin, and Stecher up front... yes, which means at least one will be moved.
  22. Not so big a deal this year, being without generational talent as we have a good shot at the 2-hole which means a top-5 pick guaranteed. Mittlestadt, Vilardi, and Glass is who I'd expect us to take although Necas and Pettersson are wildcards here as JB has shown no hesitancy to take guys out of Europe and the NCAA. I figure a 5th or lower pick might see us take a d-man unless one is taken earlier. What's the source? Up until now we'd heard that Vegas takes the tie-break which forces the 28th finisher down to 4th. They do for all the other rounds at least.
