  1. Willis is wrong -- Canucks gave Dallas the offer, which they took and shopped to Calgary because Russell was the guy they wanted all along. They simply used Vancouver to get a solid offer. That came straight from Linden, so you can believe whomever you wish. I HIGHLY doubt ownership gets involved with the valuations of a deadline rental deal, especially when it frees up salary, as if they have any idea of player values in the first place. Signing an Eriksson or trading a Kesler, yes likely. I know you believe "anything is better than nothing" but that's not the way business is done, especially in pro sports and and it's exemplified by teams all the time.
  2. Boeser draws a late penalty... wins the draw... tie game!
  3. FWIW, it was reportedly a 6th. But point stands -- unless it is someone you have to move (e.g. Kassian) you do NOT simply throw away assets for "anything you can get."
  4. Of course, but the point is Benning was right not to bend over to Nill and create a precedent. You simply cannot attain the reputation of someone who makes desperation moves and is willing to "take anything just to get something" without losing respect and bargaining power. Kids playing board games know this well enough, and will go after and exploit the weak player.
  5. It could be argued that by not being bent over by Nill last year that it helped with the returns this year. The team couldn't have played much worse down the stretch last season either, and we'll likely see a mirroring of it now.
  6. Benning seems to like him. Would expect they'll qualify him, along with Cramarossa. They'll need to show in September that they deserve to be on the team or they'll be back on waivers or in the minors.
  7. Button today suggesting that Makar will be top-5 in his next list.
  8. Yeah, unless Benning and crew are absolutely convinced that Jake will at best top out as a 3rd liner, there is no way you trade him right now. Not only the risk of his upside in that he alone could end up better than who you trade him for, but the fact that his value at present is likely the lowest since he was drafted.
  9. From his comments, my take is that while our current guys and prospects have some offensive potential, none project to be a, in his words, "true PPQB", at least not as he views one to his standard. As for Sergachev, I'd presume that there is something about his game that made them choose Juolevi over him as projecting to be a better overall player or better fit for the team. Likewise as Tkachuk commented, "The Canucks never seemed that interested in me."
  10. And an ironing we go... Sure criticism of him has been warranted, but this merely 20 year old kid is by all accounts actually getting not only his on-ice game but off-ice and professional aspects together.
  11. Ah, you and your qualifiers... Then again, we have Brisebois and others in the pipeline, plus a McEneny who looks to be knocking on the door. Top-pairing D are about the most costly asset one can acquire, and rarely do they become UFAs.
  12. But DeNiro already has him on his roster for next year...
  13. Spelled "Sbisa" wrong. Or is that "Tryamkin"? I hope we wouldn't be out signing UFA's on defence.
  14. RDF hasn't been wrong yet. "Just watch"...
  15. When he came up before during the Gillis regime, the problem was he changed his game and wasn't the same aggressive self and thus ineffective. But since then he's also found some offence, so perhaps if there are available contracts they look at a two-way again.
  16. Might be easier to list who he ISN'T looking at He wanted a scoring winger back last summer, but besides that is the matter of Tanev's NTC kicking in shortly. Edler probably wouldn't return the same value, although I think by now he's quite resigned to the fact he won't be around much longer and will waive for the right place.
  17. Nylander (drafted at 175, actually) and Ehlers (165) were still likely to make an impact in the NHL before Jake, being the kind of players they are with more-developed offensive game. Pastrnak was 168lbs yet he made the Bruins the very next season after just a half year in the AHL. Could Jake have been here now if he, like Willie and David, had been able to go straight to Utica? We'll never know. I think it was even Benning who stated that Jake had figured he should bulk up to be more effective but now knows that isn't what he should have done. Whether that's his or his dad's or the team's fault is immaterial; it's been corrected. Not sure why all the indignant anger and disdain, he's on the right track now by all accounts.
  18. From various perspectives -- pro exposure, PR, etc. -- I think they bring him here, even if for just two games. Nothing at all wrong with watching him have a go at the Oil to finish up the season, flashing that wrister as a teaser preview for next year. Probably the most-anticipated prospect we've had for a long time. He's almost here
  19. Wonder if this at all changes what he will target if he's still looking to move a D-man for a forward. As he mentioned, they now have Boeser, Virtanen, Dahlen, and Goldobin projected as scoring wingers and the need now is to get them a playmaking centre. That would likely be more costly in trade than a scoring winger, requiring the ante of a Tanev or more. May come down to where we end up in the lotto and how he projects his expected pick.
  20. This right here. Fact of the matter is, Jake was never a "step right in" prospect. Everyone, including those who supported drafting him, knew this. To claim direct causation between his partying and on-ice performance holds quite the burden of proof.
  21. Evidently that's what you're here try to do in every prospect thread.
  22. Of course, but maybe only a mid-level pick, very likely more at the TDL for an aspiring playoff team. His salary is only slightly more than Hansen's. Recall that both Linden and Benning had him targeted even before they had spoken with each other.
