  1. There he is! Let's hear your analysis, professor.
  2. I wanna hear from the guy who watches on his radio.
  3. In the clip of him with Canuck management, it's clear he's not a twig either. He's going to be a big and strong guy. Like bull.
  4. The butt-hurt is strong with these ones. ...but apparently not strong enough to make them Maple Leaf or Jet fans.
  5. And how'd all the others do? Right -- Nylander and Ehlers would have done much better... Exactly. Barely-18 kid plays big, scores big, impresses everyone, and yet there's incessant hand-wringing. Could end up with McDavid and there'd be complaints about him not being physical enough.
  6. In regards to going to the WJC: Bo's in a great situation here -- learning the league on a winning team, playing on a line with hard-working veterans, and in a role where he's not expected or needed to produce offensively. One step at a time, production and responsibility will come.
  7. "He is also good at receiving checks, maybe an underrated trait, with the checker sometimes being the one to fall when trying to hit Virtanen." At about 9:57 Jake goes to the boards for the puck, man comes in to body him against the boards, Jake pushes him off and guy goes to the ice, Jake continues on.
  8. Doesn't need to finish school?
  9. Crazy amount of space behind the goal line, like a rink of its own.
  10. Perhaps it looked that way because whenever Calgary was in possession it seemed he had the puck most of the time.
  11. Granted it is just highlights, but it looks like Virtanen is always the one driving the play. Takes the puck up the ice himself with speed into the zone, to either shoot or make a play. Does his C ever get the puck? Would like to see what he'd do with a good playmaking C, but then maybe it's his fault for always taking it. 4:47-4:57 Makes a defenceman fall to the ice twice, once when trying to check him and again a few seconds later where he missed hitting him on the boards and took out the linesman instead But yeah, have to love the way he does everything at speed, and can certainly dangle with the puck and make plays. Two strides and he's up to speed with everyone else on the ice, a couple more and he's gone.
  12. All four of Horvat, Gaunce, Cassels, and McCann (and even Fox) were/are reportedly good on face-offs in junior and counted on by their teams for important draws. Big reason why the C position is looking very strong for years to come.
  13. So no real glaring deficiencies, just continued development?
  14. Sounds great! What parts of his game still need work, especially to make the transition to NA?
  15. More credit to Gillis. Whether he was a "safe pick" or not, he's the type of player you build around. Skill, physical, solid play, reliable, likeable, and a leader.
  16. Okay, promise I won't start hating if he doesn't keep up his 246-point pace. Thing is, he's different from a Hodgson, Schroeder, or Shinkaruk -- he plays a complete/solid game that should be much more consistent than a flashy offensive game. Going to be fun watching him and Monahan go head-to-head for many years to come.
  17. How far off is Theodore? Anaheim needs more big forwards
  18. Of course, it was a rhetorical question to the assertion that he wants a "big and tough" team, as if that's the only players he seeks. Benning made it clear he wants size but is more focused on speed and skill.
  19. Then why did he trade for Linden Vey?

  21. Trade him now, and it's like 1 and 2/3 The Giants were/are reportedly on a three-year plan (this being year two) culminating in what they'd hoped would be the hosting of the 2016 Memorial Cup, with the expectation that they'd be in the mix.
  22. And as per that article, another positive about Bo is his attitude -- he does not come across as cocky or entitled (as was alluded to a former young player) and seems willing to fulfill whatever role is expected of him. Gaunce is similar -- both guys have a quiet yet strong personna with definite leadership abilities.
  23. Remember Valk saying that young players can "lose" their offensive instincts or ability if not put in offensive situations? Don't really see that as being the case, because very few step into the league directly onto the top two lines unless into a situation like Edmonton. Most start on the third and fourth lines and work their way up, just as Kesler and Burrows did. Young players do not lose their motor skills, nor mentally "forget" how to make creative plays. It's something that continues to develop and peaks out at different levels.
  24. Unless he makes the Canucks next year, he's back to junior, no?
