  1. I think Provost has it right. Don't know about Michalek, but Hansen and likely Burrows are gone. For others posting lineups, please note -- Vey will be on the third line, not in the press box.
  2. Kinda too late -- already paid out more than half in just 30% of the term!
  3. They aren't going anywhere, unless it's a deal he can't refuse.
  4. Yep, like he did systematically with the draft, my sense is that Benning has it all laid out, and is just waiting for the bell to sound.
  5. You're right, man. Most of these kids advocating tank-city for magic beans have no idea what it's like to have a hopeless minor-league level team for years on end like we've had with the Canucks in the past, and are in Edmonton and Buffalo now.
  6. No, year after, I believe. But no doubt -- when your powerplay goes from best in the league to near the bottom (despite having nearly all the same players), it's not just coincidence.
  7. So Stevie gets a 6th rounder for Purcell, who had 2 years left at $4.5mil. Jim gets a 2nd rounder out of him for Garrison, who still has 4 years left at $4.6mil. ...plus Stevie is retaining salary? Stevie done got schooled by Captain Jim.
  8. There's a distinct subculture on CDC that believes the entire and only goal IS to get the #1 pick... and at any cost.
  9. Not to mention satisfying the paying customers. Will they be handing out paper bags, Toronto-style? Any schmo can gut and tank a team as a "rebuild" (Buffalo), but it takes some actual skill and insight to retool on the fly and maintain competitiveness (Detroit). Looks like San Jose is trying to do the latter as well as we are. At the rate things are going, this is going to be a playoff team next year.
  10. Very simple: Tank city, here they come! Look at what they've done the past few years and all the capspace they have. Are they actually trying to be competitive like the Canucks are, despite admittedly being in a rebuilding mode? Of course some here will look upon that with admiration. That being said, they are going to be far from the cap floor, which means trading Myers doesn't make much sense. What are they going to do -- throw crazy money at a bunch of scrubs just to get to the floor and further ensure their tanking?
  11. Right, so let's get them in the lineup! Two-year deal. At least one of Horvat or Gaunce this year, then the other plus Hunter and/or Jake in year 2.
  12. Maybe he's such a great and likeable guy he's friends with everyone Haven't got the impression that he's cocky or an agitator -- seems to let his physicality do the talking on the ice.
  13. Bingo, was gonna say the same thing and I'm not even on here much to see it. i enjoy reading everyone's comments, but it gets to the point where such crybabies really have nothing to offer. I think in a way they might do it just to be contrarian, thinking that it brings them attention. Guess it's time to figure out the iggy feature...
  14. I agree, and see Horvat as the solid character kind of guy you win with. More in regards to speculation from others who have suggested Benning may move out some old regime prospects for his own. Either way, he's really deepening up the prospect pool, and quickly!
  15. Vey is a former 4th rounder, further evidence that LA is the new Detroit -- drafting and developing players very well. With Benning gathering all these centers, some of which could be ready this Fall, would seem that more moves are coming. Perhaps continuing to change the culture, bringing in his type of players, with the intention to move out Horvat or others?
  16. Less than 24 hours later, apparently he's now "considering Russians".
  17. McKenzie just said that Vey played on the same line with Toffoli and Pearson on their AHL team. Played 18 games with the Kings last year. Sounds like he could well compete for a spot this season.
  18. Yet another gritty center with leadership skills for the Canucks: "2010-11: Vey led the WHL and all of Canadian junior hockey in scoring in his fourth season with the Medicine Hat Tigers. He scored 46 goals with 70 assists in 69 games and had a +37 plus/minus (second only to Anaheim prospect Emerson Etem ( +41) amongst Tigers' skaters). 2012-13: Vey was the leading scorer for Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, in his second pro season. He scored 22 goals with 45 assists in 74 games and was +18 with 32 penalty minutes." Talent Analysis The Wakaw, Saskatchewan native is of average size and weight, but delivers above average results in most facets of the game. He is a leader and a grit player who inspires with a solid work ethic. His continued improvement in all three zones and special teams play has helped him raise his stock as a legitimate two-way center option. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/linden_vey/
  19. Actually, McCann looks more like Horvat+. He can certainly skate better, and has more offensive upside. Haven't heard about his faceoff ability though?
  20. Doesn't even sound like it was major, as he played much of the season with it: “Both the doctor and my physiotherapist have said it’s the fastest they’ve ever seen a shoulder heal, so it looks really great,” he says. “It didn’t bother me at all during the season, but the whole point of the surgery was to get it fully healthy so I’ll be good to go for next season." http://www.vancouversun.com/touch/story.html?id=9971180
  21. Guys that skate like the wind can find a place in the NHL, but it doesn't mean they'll be productive. Think back to Rob McClanahan, Todd Marchant, and Mason Raymond. This kid can not only fly, but he has hands and a big shot, not to mention a great backhand, and can clearly score. But to top it off, he's not just a dancer, he plays physically and enjoys throwing the body around. Sure he may never be a playmaker, but he creates distance for himself and if he understands positioning he will fill the net at the next level.
