Arb rights aren't worth much unless you have some ammo to bring to the table. Hopefully his new agent has set him straight, somehow more than even Larionov was able to do. He'll likely stick around as the 13th forward with the inevitable injuries out of camp, but that crunch is coming with Roussel on the way. -

Bold Predictions for the upcoming season (Discussion)

That's not bold, it's pure fantasy... Leafs can't make it out of the first round. -

Consensus seems to be that our defense projects as being "average". Considering that half the teams make the playoffs, that puts us right into the midst of that battle. But as has been pointed out, one of the main determinants of being a playoff team is goal differential. Positive teams almost always make it and negative teams almost always don't. Our differential last year was -30, which means we minimally need to score 15 more and give up 15 less. Could Miller, Ferland, improved Petey and Boeser, healthy Baertschi, and Hughes and Myers on the back end get us that? Does not seem a stretch, at all. Do a healthy Sutter and Beagle, plus Myers/Benn/Hughes on the back end versus Gudbranson/Pouliot/Hutton and a repeat of Markstrom get us 15 less against? Again, seems very possible.

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
Gaudette Celly replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
And how many good teams don't have that "issue"? It's still years away for Vancouver, whereas others who just had their window open like Winnipeg are already in trouble. And as if no other moves and changes won't happen in the meantime. -
[Report] Canucks sign GM Jim Benning to contract extension

Speaking of "defensive"... The express purpose of rentals IS to put a team "over the top", NOT to build a team, which is what the Canucks are doing NOW. So clearly you made either a false read on the situation or chose to put on your own spin despite the reality of it. And when you use terms like "paid a premium" you are clearly implying that they paid a whole lot and more likely too much. But now you suggest it's a "fair return"? Then why the need for spinning in into "they paid a PREMIUM", or are you just equivocating? I get that you're trying to substantiate the narrative you've created, but in doing so used your own "over-the-top" embellishing of reality to try to support it. It's nothing new for these boards, and I (and others who see it) are simply calling it out for what it is. Spin all you want, everyone does it to some degree, but at least be prepared to back it up, or backpedal if you want but don't blame others for recognizing and refuting it. -

You said: "Premium price" -- clearly stating they paid AT LEAST market value if not overpaying. If that's not what you meant, then use accurate language to communicate instead of exaggerating, or be prepared to answer for making such claims. "Putting us over the top" -- that is the function of rentals, not core players. Nobody anywhere is even suggesting the team is looking to go "over the top", when it's not even a playoff team yet, let alone anywhere near "the top." Spurious and completely fallacious claim. -

1. They did not overpay 2. Those players are not rentals -
Laine should bolt from WPG and come to VAN

Funny how he beaked off at the Canucks' team decision to limit videogaming on the road, yet then had the season he did. Maybe the irony is that he's the one who could have used some addiction counseling. -

Just how "realistic" is it to complain about losses during a rebuild? Welcome to Trolling 201. School's in session. -

For those of who went through the 80s, we know how different it was. Year after year there seemed to be no hope, as there were no top prospects on the way or anything. At least this time around, we could see things being built and improvements made, through the draft, trades, and signings. -
Make that four. Unbelievable.

Considering the message from SN and the subsequent silence from WD, I'd suspect he's been given a time out. Not sure how KOS has escaped that same fate, but perhaps it's out of pity. -

...except that JB hasn't been in the situation that MG was in yet, in order to have those opportunities. MG wasn't rebuilding, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have drafted well regardless. -

The correct term is arrogant. It says, "I know how much players should sign for and what moves I'd make, and could accomplish them all because for me things operate in a vacuum. And even if it's all in hindsight, I am the standard of what a successful NHL GM would be." -

So is that +3 including the option or on top? In any case, he has at least 3 more years from now, plenty of time to see his work come to fruition. -

You're right, the team is improving steadily so the extension was well-deserved. Especially considering he hasn't even started the rebuild yet...
