  1. When you pick up a player on waivers it's like trading for him -- you take on him and his contract, plus a small waiver fee.
  2. Loui's still giving good effort for the sake of the team...
  3. 1. His value is likely as low as it's ever been 2. We in no way HAVE to move him, whether for salary or a roster spot As has been pointed out, we do need him for what he brings -- true high-end shut-down ability and elite PKing, plus the ability to score and play in all situations. Because we are not in a situation where we have to move cap, the best solution is to get him back playing, not just to return his value to the team but to get his asset value back up as well. If in the end cap is tight, sending Schaller down gets us another $1mil, and whatever happens with Loui is likely to net us a couple more. Plenty of time and lots of options.
  4. We'd be lucky to get a 2nd for Juolevi or a 3rd for Virtanen, but if we offered our 1st, Boeser, and Juolevi for Jack Hughes they'd have laughed and hung up.
  5. The thought occurred to me the last time I heard him, that he was trying to be a Gallagher successor. He has the simpering whiny voice going well, but his inability to factually analyze and provide reasoned insight is astounding. At least Gallagher had some knowledge and ability to put a coherent argument together, but Burke almost seems like he's got no sense at all, like he's just some guy in his basement throwing stuff out there off the top of his head. Seriously -- I'd rather have heard from a good number of CDC posters, even that Abbotsford "HockeyGuy" from Youtube would have been FAR better.
  6. 1. Can you operate a calculator? 2. Have you used Excel? 3. Ever actually played or watched a game, or talked to a player or coach? (yes = automatic disqualification)
  7. Biech is the best of the entire CanuckSmarmy lot, at least of the ones made public. Speaking of, did you hear him on SN650 this morning? At first I thought it was Gallagher with the subtle whiny voice, but his "analysis" was absolutely BRUTAL. I really don't know how he gets the time of day anywhere from anyone. Nearly everything he came up with was either wrong, fallacious, or more simple-minded than even a casual fan. I was embarrassed for the crew interviewing him that they had to deal with it.
  8. Would be nice to move Eriksson there, but they only have $1mil for a final contract this year and have $62mil in cap tied up next year in just 14 players, so they're unlikely to want to go that route.
  9. Deb, once you engage there is no end to the argument. And once the "walls of text" start (which inevitably always do), I don't even bother reading because typically nothing is said that couldn't be said in a few lines. a.k.a. "elephant hurling", often done with the intent of tiring the opponent so they stop responding and ostensibly "give up". Your choice is either walk away or else engage for pages on end, going round and round in circles in an ultimate time-waster.
  10. I don't get it -- we signed Ferland for $3.5M when we had $5.5M in capspace, now it shows we have $5M. Capfriendly must be broken. Help me help me, I don't get it?!?!
  11. Do not think the situation is at all as dire and desperate as being made out. Edmonton and Calgary are arguably worse-off with Lucic and Neal, and what's this about "doing us any favours", as if they ARE willing to help out the Leafs or other teams? And who says we are refusing to take back something of negative value in the process or have to give up "higher-end assets"? It's a business and will be a straight business transaction -- everyone agrees he needs a new start, so something will be figured out. It's not like Loui Eriksson is a crack-addicted gangster that nobody wants anywhere near the team or hockey period, let alone a long-term anchor that can't even play the game any more. Waiving to Utica is likely the absolute worst-case scenario (at least, to him) so it'll be avoided by him and Barry as much as possible, imo. And lastly, we are in no way desperate to free up his salary, unable to sign our RFAs like Edmonton, Calgary, Vegas and others are. We're barely into July. Something will get done, relax.
  12. Like with Hutton when he said "We'll see if we can work out a deal", I really don't think there's much intent or desire. Have never heard him publicly denigrate or otherwise outright criticize any of his players, even if they're on the outs and no matter what they've done. Would think the players all respect him for that.
  13. Well, the Oilers bought out one of their better dmen and haven't replaced him, and brought in Mike Smith. #cuprun Meanwhile, San Jose lost their entire 2nd line and a top-4 dman.
  14. The agent's job is to serve his client. If both the team and Eriksson want to move on, then it's his responsibility to help it along and broker something. They're certainly exploring all options, and likely VERY much Loui's last resort to end up in Utica, so who knows how motivated he may get to work something else out to avoid it. Everyone knows it hasn't worked and something needs to be done. Sooner or later, Loui is gone. Only question is when and for what.
  15. Although word from there is it may be best to reduce his minutes into more of a 2nd pairing role. If true, then he may not be that top-pairing minute-muncher that his purported asking price is worth. Who knows, maybe someone really wants him and pays the price, but it seems Jimbo's been inquiring for over a year and so far the price is likely too rich for his blood.
  16. This appears to be a trade that needs to be re-evaluated a year from now. On paper it's a Leaf win, but how will they look without Kadri, and what happens with Barrie at the end of the season? Could go from a win to a substantial loss, simply buying time for this season.
  17. I fully believe it. Jimmy don't take no crap, he gets done what he wants to get done, whether it's turfing out Garrison or signing a UFA. Barry better get to work.
  18. He's been riding that mule for years now. One reason why he's not working in hockey management.
