  1. They couldn't. Still have to sign Tkachuk, 18YO, and Rittich with less than $10mil in cap remaining with 21 contracts. They almost certainly have to move salary to accomplish just that.
  2. We are in a two-year window where the roster should be fairly static, as we don't have many RFAs due for re-signing after this season. There may be some attrition from prospects making the lineup, but other than possible trades there may not be many changes until after the following season, when it's time to re-sign Petey and Hughes.
  3. There's nothing odd or "funny", original point being Hutton is hardly an offensive defenseman. He's been in the league four years and in the last three he hasn't produced much so he certainly isn't trending in the right direction either, to where a noted "defensive dman" in Benn has even outscored him.
  4. So once Marner is signed, after their top-8 forwards (if including Hyman) the bottom 4 will be chosen from among: Perhaps they will promote someone from the AHL, but a guy like Bracco isn't going to work in the bottom-6.
  5. They appear to need forwards, especially a 2/3 C. Unfortunate that Sutter hasn't been healthy, as would figure some sort of package of him/Baertschi/Goldobin/Virtanen would pique interest.
  6. So nice of them to swap their mediocre goalies, thinking they've improved. I'll bet Petey and the boys can't wait.
  7. Jimbo walked into free agency with his bankroll like a boss, snapping up the assets for bargains. Next up, Gardiner for 4x4. He's part of the same gaggle chiding how "Benning can't sign any more UFAs because of his bad contracts." Oh look, he just did... better change the goalposts in order to keep up the incessant complaining. And he spams it in every second post; cue pooping hippo.
  8. Dubas has not been shy about admitting he believes it's all about skill, and most recently with the loss of grit he seemed to brush it off. Not sure how he hasn't seen the problem with the three-straight first round exits, but appears he's doubling down anyway.
  9. Didn't we take the season against the Flames this year? If not, it was even or very close. We seemed to match up well with them, and should even more this year with a bigger faster more skilled team whereas they are struggling just to re-sign their RFAs. I think the key for us will be just that -- how we play against our division. We simply MUST feast on the likes of Edmonton, LA, Anaheim, and Arizona. There were probably 3+ games that we had no business losing against the Coyotes, and when you project even some of those points out we are barely out of the playoffs. We've not been able to run with Vegas so hopefully we can handle them better now as well.
  10. If Loui had actually played like a top-6 player, there wouldn't have been the need to acquire both Miller and Ferland.
  11. It wasn't that long ago that someone here proposed a bet, that the Canucks would be the first Canadian team to make it back to the SC Finals. Ottawa - rebuild Edmonton - stagnant Calgary - stagnant, goaltending again Winnipeg - big$ RFAs, holes to fill esp. on D Toronto - last kick at the can, even less grit now Montreal - progressing, still have cap space to use We're past Edmonton and Ottawa, and likely caught Toronto. Will have to see if Calgary can replicate last season and if Winnipeg can fill their holes, but Montreal is on the upswing as well. Not bad for just 5 years, when the team was falling into the downturn and hadn't started turning over the aging roster yet.
  12. He can call them Betty and Veronica, just get them the puck and create a safe working environment.
  13. Ferland to sign at 4x4. "With the recap, we won't be able to sign another top-6" - Benning "Hey Jim, we'll take 3.5..."
  14. Consider, everyone in that top-6 has put up 20 goals before, and consider their ages: 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 27 -- all either approaching or in their prime. He's got to be realizing by now there isn't a place for him on this roster. The top-6 is filled out and we still have others like Baertschi who can play there and have out-performed him. The bottom-6 is also full and there's young players like Gaudette and MacEwen knocking at the door. Quite certain the Canucks and his agent are working something out.
  15. Love that he's with us now, but that face still triggers punchability...
  16. Shush you and your analysis and thinking planning stuff. RickyD said they have to move bodies or they can't sign Boeser; said Canucks told him so. Better call Minny back about Zucker. Shoulda never fired Gilman.
