Not going to lie. Had to look it up. Fun fact: I'm first generation Canadian from German descent.

This. I honestly don't know why our fans are so caught up on putting Podz in a top 6 role. While he was limited in ice time, he didn't exactly put up a lot of points in Russia. Now we want to drop him in the NHL and expect him to score in bunches? I hope it happens, but I am not confident. His playing style suits a bottom six role just fine and if/when the time comes, he can move up. In the meantime, we do have a glaring hole on the right side. If only we had more time, we could have had Toffoli there, and Jake is absolutely not the answer...

While I'm all for seeing what Lind can do, I'm not sure he should be thrown in a top 6 role. He plays a game that is suitable for lower lines and I'd rather see him start there and see how he performs against NHL competition first with sheltered minutes. Still, he can't be any less productive than Jake or Vesey.

I don't remember Green being so condescending prior to the break. He seems particularly testy since coming back. Guess I can't really blame him, all things considered. It would be nice if the media guys would ask questions that didn't have such obvious answers. Not a lot of deep journalism going on in this interview. -

Right? Green took such a question in his media clip and got clearly annoyed, thinking it meant we would be packing it in to try out the new guys. No, the TEAM isn't packing. Just Jake. -

Despite Virtanen's best efforts, we won the game. Way to go guys! -

Man... we are giving Ottawa every opportunity to come back. Stop the bloody penalties. If we were against a more talented team it would already be over. -
I think by this point we all know Jake makes... questionable decisions. Consistently. But you would think he would still get the basics down that play to his attributes. Hitting. Chasing down the puck with his speed, and using his strength to win battles along the boards. But somehow, despite being blessed with these tools he can't show more than glimpses of these basics.... let alone meet expectations to actually wrack up the points. If he's not scoring, he should be throwing 3 or 4 of those big hits every game. He should be making life miserable for the opponents. Instead, he takes needless penalties and otherwise plays fairly invisibly, all things considered. I supported Jake as a pick. I felt that while he didn't have the flash of Nylander that he had the kind of size and speed that would make him an elite 3rd liner if he didn't meet his potential as a top 6 guy. We needed size and grit. Guess we needed heart as well.

Let's hope the reffing improves for the rest. -
He had some questionable moments, for sure. Overall, I think he (or will be) capable of playing a bottom pairing role due to the general poise I mentioned above and the fact he plays his butt off, but that's about it. I honestly don't see much upside and would also rather see what Rafferty can do. I mean, given how Rafferty managed in the AHL, he must be able to translate at least *some* of that to the NHL level, I would imagine. He's also the bigger of the two - though I'm not certain he really uses the extra weight to his advantage.
-
I think it's a little early to say for sure with such a small sample size, but he certainly seems like a better fit in Florida than in Calgary for sure. Which I don't really get, as besides Lucic, and maybe Gio, Calgary doesn't really have a lot of guys who play with grit. For all the changes they made this season, it really looks like they took a step back which is more than surprising.

The measurement nobody asked for.

Media gauges fan tolerance for negativity and injects as much as they can to make a sensational story without getting significant pushback. If they do, they ease it off. Finding the balance is often all part and parcel to the industry, I feel. Happens in most markets... but our media tends to be particularly obnoxious. But it's the fans that set that tolerance level, and without it the media wouldn't have an audience. So ultimately, they feed each other. Which tends to be how groups of like-minded negative people like it.

He's not wrong. Local media have always been hard on the team. Likely driven by our fickle fan base that can't stop complaining and very much run on a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately basis.

No surprise there. TSN is the worst offender, but Toronto is just generally the center of the universe, so.... -
Edler To Have Hearing Today [Update: Suspended 2 games]
kloubek replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I've watched it a few more times now, and listened to their explanation. Edler comes in, and skates/coasts right in front of Hyman and against the boards. He purposely keeps a wide base to ensure he catches at least a piece, though it looks to me like he's starting to brace for and expecting an impact. At this point, I'm guessing he figures either he makes the hit or he at least interferes enough. Instead, Hyman makes a move which may allow him to get around Edler, and it's at that point that I can now see that Edler extends his leg a little bit to try to keep that from happening. I don't see it as "dirty", but that little motion was reckless so I'm taking a rare change of stance and agree that it was worthy of the suspension. (Because my opinion means *so* much). -

That's about what I expected. I maintain though that I don't believe this was dirty. Edler was as far over to the boards as he could be, and Hyman tried dancing around him. Yes, Edler could and should have retracted his leg, but it isn't like he purposely stuck it out there when Hyman arrived. It was always out there, and Hyman skated into it as Edler was barely moving anymore. -
...and we will be!

I've looked at it several times. It's not like Edler actually stuck it out... he just didn't pull it in. Objectively, I don't think this is suspension worthy. -
He does tend to get gassed, so I think he handled all that time amazingly well. Lots of effort from him tonight. I actually think Benning positioned himself to keep Myers at the deadline. I could be wrong, but I don't think he has any intention of exposing him.
-
He did have his struggles... especially early on. But while his decision making seems questionable, he does seem to move the puck quickly and plays with a surprising amount of poise.

He gave us a great game when we needed it most. It will likely be our fondest memory of him in a Canuck uniform.
