Thanks for that. Glad to see Stecher startijg to get attention for his efforts.

The officers seemed to escalate a situation they absolutely didn't need to. They were super amped up. I wonder what the full backstory is. However, besides putting his hands out the window, he really didn't listen to commands. Whether justified or not, you listen to officer's commands. If you disagree with their conduct, you file a complaint. That's the process. Deviate from the process and bad cops or poorly trained cops escalate further. ...and if the process doesn't work (and I bet it commonly does not), you bring it to your government official, the media, or the courts. But save yourself the potential injury or death by complying in the first place.

I'm guessing he wears the "A" for a reason. And I agree that we would likely re-sign him if the deal made sense cap-wise. Me too, although I think some of us on CDC need to temper our expectations of him. He isn't dynamic. He isn't much of a playmaker and he doesn't score much either despite a heavy shot. However, I do think his otherwise average hockey skills are going to keep him from being a "true" top three or four kind of guy. With that said, I expect him to crush guys on the ice, to intimidate, stick up for his teammates and to clear the front of the net... all at an elite level, and far better than anyone else we have in the lineup... including Myers. And come playoff time, I think a guy like him can make an enormous impact on a series.

I do agree with this. Holtby will be essential to us playing well over the remainder of the season with so many back to backs. Though I still think the biggest X factor will be our teams health and rust. I just feel it's highly unlikely our team will be competitive after going through this. Some players will be ok I'm sure, but I think we are going to see certain players play well below what we are used to.

I do agree that it's an opportunity to play the kids. We have a few key guys down there who deserve at least a few games to see what they can actually do in the bigs against proper competition. But overall, we still run with the full NHL lineup for the most part if possible.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson
kloubek replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think it's mainly because Benning has signed similar contracts before which is largely why we have a cap mess right now. Could be that making sure we have space for the essential signings of Petey and Huggy is paramount, and JB hasn't exactly shown amazing prowess in shedding cap when and where required. Might be that some feel in a covid and cap world that 3.25 is too high for a guy with a questionable point total this season. I am indifferent, personally. I see both pros and cons, and at least Bo finally has a permanent linemate. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson

I guess it all depends. Do we get .65ppg Pearson from last year or .33ppg Pearson of this year? Likely somewhere in between. The only way this makes sense to me is if we get .65ppg Pearson for those 3 years. IMO, this is too much in a cap strapped world. For a 2 or 3 year contract, I was hoping around 2.5-2.75. Guess that's hard to justify when you have a 4 point Rooster getting paid 3m per... -
True enough. Tryamkin would certainly ensure no liberties were taken with Quinn, if nothing else...

I was yesterday years old when I discovered Lind was being groomed for a center position. Good news. ...though I wouldn't mind bringing him back one more year on a cheap contract while Lind makes his transition to the NHL. Even IF he got moved by deadline.

Although he is obviously not the player he recently was, I agree we should re-sign Edler if he is willing to take such a cap friendly salary. I fear it might be shocking to him to go from 6 to 2.5, but combined with his desire to stay in Vancouver maybe something can be made to work like that. I also agree that his role should be reduced further - though I'm not certain Juolevi is there quite yet to get 2nd pairing minutes from the start. As far as the right side goes, I feel Hamonic is a good solution if he wants to stay for cheap, but I can't help thinking that Tryamkin brings even more to the table, and an Edler Tryamkin pairing can double as a pretty effective shutdown pairing. Hughes (6.75M) - Schmidt (6M) Juolevi (1M) - Myers (6M) Edler (2.5M) - Tryamkin (2M)

...and you think placing expectations for them to go out there and perform in 2 weeks like nothing happened is going to make them feel better? Sir, you are gravely underestimating how detrimental this can be to the body. Yes, I feel it is probably likely they will all fully recover over time. (Hopefully). But to expand on what another poster said, ANY reduction in capacity - lung or otherwise - essentially keeps an NHL player from performing like one. About 18 years ago (dating myself here) I caught a horrible flu around Christmas. I literally could not stand up and couldn't keep any food down for a week. I lost almost 15 pounds over two weeks, and didn't feel myself for at least a month after I recovered. Now you can say... these are athletes... they are in amazing shape. They'll recover quicker. And maybe that's true... I don't know... but the basic principle still applies. Especially for a virus which, by all accounts, is significantly worse than the flu. Even covidiots tend to agree with that.

If it was the original strain, maybe... although even a bad flu (which is what most healthy people feel) will knock you on your ass and start eating away at your body pretty quickly. Especially an athlete, who trains hard to get their body in peak condition for a grueling game. With not eating properly, it doesn't take long to start losing muscle mass. But this is the new and improved strain, courtesy of Brazil I believe. It is far more infectious (apparently proven, given the numbers in the locker room), affects those far younger, as well as has more severe symptoms. Then they have to train to get back INTO shape, and they are going to be rusty. Nobody needs to sell stories when it's the truth. Headlines these days write themselves.

First and foremost, I hope all our guys get 100% better - for the health of themselves, and their families. Crazy how it ripped through the team like this - though I am actually somewhat surprised we haven't seen more throughout the league. My wife and I got a mild case of the original strain, but especially with this Brazil variant it can really cause havoc on the bodies of perfectly healthy people... even athletes. I honestly don't think that whenever play resumes that our guys will be anywhere near 100% physically... let alone sharp on the ice from lack of practice or playing time. This won't be a popular opinion. As much as I love watching our team play and was excited about the slim possibility of our making the playoffs, I think this season is now essentially a write-off. What's the point in playing when I'm sure we're going to get destroyed for at least the first 2-3 weeks back. And forcing our guys out there when they are not 100% is a recipe for further physical injury. I think the league should allow the players and their families to focus on recovery, and allow us to finish based on point %.

I find this most likely rather than signing someone else. I don't think Hamonic would cost the 4m or whatever people are thinking. So long as he wants to stay here, I imagine there is a spot for him at a decent rate. Then we expose Myers, which is what his contract was designed for, then sign perhaps Trymakin for that last RH spot next season. I do still want to see Rafferty play, but I'm guessing the Canucks aren't sold on his ability to play an NHL game at this time.

Sure hope Hamonic and his daughter (who already has respiratory issues) are OK. This covid thing blows.
